Ep. 1272 The Empire Part 6

"It's alright. I didn't even think to check the time dilation before I started my evolution. Is anyone in the castle currently? Or has anyone come looking for me?"

Jarvis says "Your kids minus Kechara are currently here. No one has come looking for you."

  "Alright, thank you."

I head upstairs where I find the kids watching anime, but as soon as they spot me they swarm me. They climb all over me as they look at all the changes to my body. Only once they are satisfied do they start telling me about their adventures in the empire.

I quickly find out that Kechara isn't here because she returned to the mountain. She is making sure that the barrier is still holding and then she will come back. I spend several hours listening to the kids' stories and eating pizza with them.

Thanks to the time dilation I can spend time with them without worrying. If anything happens, my people know where to find me or will contact me through the medallion. After the kids finally run out of stories, I shrink down and start a game of tag.

This helps me get used to my new body and also lets me test out my new wings. The kids quickly complain that I fly too fast now and it isn't fair, so I stick to running. It feels like it has been a while since I played with the kids, so I keep the game going for hours.

We play until we are all exhausted and then pile up in the nest and watch anime. One by one, the kids fall asleep until I am the only one still awake. Since I basically slept for ten days, I am not tired at all despite all the activity.

Unfortunately, the kids are piled all around me and there is no way I can move. Unless I am willing to disturb them, I am basically stuck here until the kids wake up. After thinking for a few minutes, I close my eyes and head into the hallway.

Then I head for what I have come to think of as the game world and enter it. However, when my body starts forming I try to change it so that it matches my new physical body. To my surprise, it works, but it takes a lot longer for the body to form.

It also uses up a lot more of my mana, but I am okay with that since I was expecting it. After all, if a dragon-like body cost the same as a human body, it wouldn't make any sense. Besides, with my normal body I won't have to count on using mana to defeat enemies.

The interesting thing is that the armor pieces I have for my soul merge into my scales. Honestly, I was hoping that they would just change shape, an armored dragon would look awesome. Still, the fact that the armor still works on a non-human body is fairly impressive.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Now that I am going to be fighting physically, the armor can finally be of some use. I don't think anything has actually hit me since I first started collecting the armor pieces. Once my body is done, I find myself in the forest, but I am near the edge of it.

A few steps is all it takes to bring the plains into view, but I stay in the tree for the moment. I want to take a look and make sure the situation hasn't changed since the last time I was here. Strangely, it hasn't, the humans are no closer to the forest than they were.

The main reason I was being cautious was because I was expecting the humans to be closer. I was worried that if I showed up in my normal form that they would attack me. Since I don't have to worry about them, I leave the trees and start hunting wolf packs.

At first, I make a few mistakes, but I quickly adapt to fighting in my new body. I take a few hits during this time, but the wolves are barely able to do damage to me. In my physical body, these kinds of scratches would heal almost instantly, but now they don't.

47 Lesser Wolves defeated! 2,350 Soul Exp gained!

After the fight ends, one of my potions activates and the scratches all heal completely. I knew that I had absorbed extra potions, but I didn't know they could activate once I was wounded. It makes them much more useful, but the problem is that I don't remember how many I absorbed.

That means that I have healing, but no idea when it will run out, so I can't depend on it. However, against these weak wolves, I don't really need to worry about it. Now that I have adapted to my new body, they really aren't going to be a threat.

As I continue to hunt down more wolf packs, some of the humans notice me. That isn't too surprising since I am quite big and easy to spot when I am not trying to be sneaky. What is surprising is that the humans do not come after me, instead they run away.

Considering how humans normally act, I am expecting them to come back with more people. If this place is like a video game, then they will see me as a rare spawn world boss or something. However, as I kill pack after pack of wolves, I still don't see any other humans.

56 Lesser Wolves defeated! 2,800 Soul Exp gained!

In fact, when I take a good look around, I can see that there are far less humans on the plains. It is almost like word spread about me and they are now avoiding the entire area. That is definitely not how I expect the humans to react and it worries me a little.

However, I really want to level up my soul again, so I don't let my worries stop me. I keep killing pack after pack of wolves, but I pay attention to my surroundings. Luckily, due to the density of wolves, it would be very hard for the humans to sneak up on me.

The fact that the wolves respawn quickly also means that I don't need to move away from the forest. Thanks to that, if something does happen, I can escape fairly easily. So, I move back and forth along the forest killing the same packs repeatedly.

72 Lesser Wolves defeated! 3,600 Soul Exp gained!

  'Soul Exp!'

  Soul Exp: 157,930/160,000

'Alright, I just need about twenty-one hundred more exp to level!'

The wolves are easy to kill and don't give much exp, but with enough numbers they are decent. If I was just starting the level I wouldn't bother hunting like this, it would take too long. Finishing out a level isn't as big of a deal, so I go back to slaughtering packs of wolves.

My current plan is to get my level up off of the wolves here and then leave. Once I level up, the exp needed for my next level will be one hundred and sixty thousand. That is around thirty two thousand wolves, no way do I have the patience for that.
