For all I know, he might actually have enough people working for him to need all that space. Before I reach the building’s doors, they open and two lines of people rush out and create a corridor for me to follow. They all bow as I pass and honestly I find it just a little embarrassing, but I don’t stop them.
Unfortunately, this is just one of the many things that I am going to have to get used to. When I pass through the doors I find myself in a large foyer where the rest of Pol’s people are waiting. They also bow when I enter, but luckily after that, they all return to their duties and I am able to meet their leader.
He has already received orders from Pol and has everything that I need prepared. Including the orders for me to sign to make the tariff legal and official, which I didn’t even think of. Luckily, I already told Sarah the plan, so these documents won’t come as a surprise to her.
Although, now that I think of it, I should probably do something to make her the governor officially. I don’t want my government to be bogged down by red tape, but some documentation is necessary. Speaking of that, I need to make a seal that cannot be duplicated or forged to use on said documents.
There are just too many things that I need to do to get the government set up, it is a real headache. The worst part is that the longer that I put it off, the longer the list of things to do grows. I really need to stop procrastinating and start getting some of these things done.
I need to get at least a few things on the list done before I go on my little trip that I have planned. I will get the gate established and working first, then get a few things off of the list. Only after that is done will I let myself go on my trip and have some fun, I have to earn it.
With that decided, I finish talking to Pol’s guy and then head outside to the square. I take one of the gate frames out along with the emergency remote and place the frame in the square. Then I explain all the functions and everything that he needs to know about the gate.
Of course, right now it is just a frame, there won’t be a gate until I place the other end and activate it. As long as the emperor doesn’t have any objections, it won’t take long to get that done. With everything taken care of here, I just have one more stop before I can head to the southern empire.
With that in mind, I open a gate to the tower and head through to go find Lin. If I don’t at least ask her if she wants to go with me, I will end up in trouble later. However, when I arrive and ask for her, Yui informs me that she is currently in the suite with Bella.
Since it is still daytime, it is not hard to imagine what they are up to and I am not about to interrupt. Instead, I head to the library to look for some books on barriers, but I get a surprise when I enter. Zamart, who I haven’t seen or even thought about in a long time, is in the library.

Zamart says “King Ash, greetings! It is good to see you.”
“Hello, Zamart. It has been a while. How have you been?”
Zamart says “I have been great! The only complaint that I have is that my duties don’t allow me to spend as much time here as I would like.”
“Responsibilities are such a drag, right? I have been trying to avoid mine as much as possible, but they just keep piling up. Speaking of, how is Mercy doing? How is the reconstruction going?”
Zamart says “She is doing good and the reconstruction is going far better than anyone expected. Thank you for sending us materials and assistance by the way.”
“Don’t thank me, I am the one who destroyed most of the city. It was the least that I could do to make up for it.”
Zamart says “Mercy never blamed you for the damage to the city. If it hadn’t been for you, the entire city would have become part of the shadow plane. We might have even lost the kingdom without your help. You have nothing to make up for, if anything we owe you majorly. Not only for the help with the capital, but without you there is no guarantee that the revolution would have even survived.”
“There is no need to talk about that, it matched up with my own goals. I would have had a lot harder time getting to the king without all your help. Anyway, you should be aware of the current situation in the empire. Does Mercy have any intention of reclaiming some land from them?”
Zamart says “Mercy hasn’t mentioned anything about it. She has however mentioned that she wanted to see you. I believe she plans to pay you a visit sometime soon.”
“Oh? Any idea what it is about?”
Zamart says “No, I’m afraid not. The queen has not mentioned why, just that she wants to see you. You will have to ask her yourself whenever you see her.”
“Alright. I guess I will just wait and see what happens.”
Zamart says “Sorry, I would tell you if I knew. Anyway, what brings you here?”
“Oh, I came to read a little on barriers while I wait for Lin.”
With a smile, Zamart points me to where the books on barriers are and offers to help if there is anything that I don’t understand. I find a book that covers the basics of barriers and sit down with it to start reading. I do end up asking Zamart a few questions as I read through the book which he easily answers.
I quickly lose myself in learning about barriers and before I know it hours have passed. I only notice how much time has passed when Zamart invites me to join him for dinner. I accept and as we are eating I continue asking him questions about basic magic.
Lin has done a pretty good job of teaching me proper magic, but I still haven’t learned it all. To properly learn the foundations of magic takes years and that is time that I don’t have. Even using time dilation, I just have too much that I need to do, so my knowledge is spotty at best.
It is not just barriers, there are quite a few areas of magic that I know next to nothing about. Or at least, when it comes to casting the magic in a formal and orderly manner. I can still do most of what I need just by muddling my way through it and using intent.
However, if possible I want to learn as much about magic as I can, even if it isn’t all that useful. Even if the knowledge isn’t useful on its own, it could give me ideas about other things that are. That is why I am reading about barriers, because I have realized that the barriers on the castle and the ship are really primitive.
