With that done, I head back into the city and return to the adventurer’s guild. This time I don’t have to wait and I am immediately escorted back to Ambrose’ office. By the time I get there a couple of more people have gathered to see me.
Rat runs over to hug me as soon as she sees me and I greet Roddick and Belliza as I am hugging her back. Apparently Jezzel has already told them about the system because they have questions about it. In the end, I have to craft bracelets on the spot so that they can access the system as well.
I spend some time playing with Rat while the adults try out and play around with the system. It doesn’t take long before they start asking if I can add things to the system to help with paperwork. It makes me laugh, but it wouldn’t be hard to add something like a word program.
However, I will have to go back to the palace to add it, that is something else I should fix. It shouldn’t be hard to make it so that I can modify the system from anywhere in the network. Oh well, I guess I can put off my leaving to hunt for a couple of hours more.
Rat is not happy about me leaving right away, but there isn’t much that I can do about it. I can’t even promise that I will be back soon, because I can’t keep that promise. However, I will try to remember to come spend some time with her after I get back from my trip.
I quickly say my goodbyes and head back to the castle in the trade city to find the kids. I take Kechara aside and explain about the obelisks before handing them over to her. I tell her that the kids can place them, but only if they want to, this is not an order.
Kechara says “Alright, I will see who wants to help. I’m sure someone will take the excuse to go out and wander around. I will probably do some myself, at least those near enough to the mountain.”
“Like I said, no one has to. If no one wants to do it, I will do it myself when I get back. I just thought some of you might want something to do besides train all the time.”
Kechara says “You are probably right. I will take care of it.”
“Thank you. Do you need anything before I leave?”
Kechara says “Not if you are leaving the castle here.”
“Yeah, I am leaving it for you and the kids to use.”
Kechara says “Then we have everything that we need. If something comes up, I will ask Lin for help.”
“Alright, sounds good. You can also message me through the system. I plan to drop obelisks as I go.”
Kechara says “Oh, I thought you gave me all of them!”

“Nope, I kept a few for myself. I want the system coverage to reach the land bridge as soon as possible.”
Kechara says “How come?”
“That is where I plan to fight the war, so there is a lot that needs to be done to prepare. Also, the system has a function that will allow it to strengthen our troops, so the coverage needs to be where the fighting will be.”
Kechara says “That makes sense. Alright, I will see you when you get back, I guess. Stay safe.”
I don’t leave straight away, instead I spend some time giving Kechara some affection. I really feel like I don’t spend enough time with the kids, but I can’t seem to find more time to spend with them. This hunting trip is important for a couple of reasons and I really can’t put it off any more.
Maybe after the wedding and honeymoon I will have more time to spend with them. I just hope that it isn’t too late by then, I don’t want them to grow to hate me for not being around. I am sure that Lin would say I am worrying about nothing, but I can’t help it.
In my old world, I say what happens to kids whose parents ignored them and it wasn’t pleasant. That was with humans, I don’t want to even imagine what my kids could do if they turned bad. They are strong enough due to their races, but with the items and training they have received, they are far stronger than normal.
Even though they are still kids, humans would have a lot of trouble dealing with them. That is just individually, if they worked together I doubt that anyone among the humans could stop them. The beastmen might have more luck, but it still wouldn’t be easy for them either.
That just makes it all the more vital that I don’t make mistakes in raising the kids. It is hard for me not to worry about them, but worrying is about all that I can do at the moment. I need to stop thinking about this and get on with the things that I need to do.
Luckily, Kechara hasn’t noticed that I was distracted and is just enjoying the attention. I spend a few more minutes with her, give her one last hug, and then use the gate in the bedroom to return to the palace. Lin and Brightfire aren’t around, so I head straight to the throne room and start working on the system.
I first add a function that will allow everyone to create, edit, and share documents. Then I use a variant of the spell to copy books to add a function to allow the creation of pages. This will basically act as a print function for the documents that they create.
After all, they need to be able to create physical copies to pass on to those who don’t have the system. Once it is done, I send out a message letting everyone know about the new functions. Then I move on to giving myself the ability to make changes to the system from anywhere in the network.
I figure out how to be able to make changes from a distance, but not to add enchantments. However, I was expecting that it would be hard to transmit the magic to create an enchantment remotely. Just being able to make changes to the system without coming back to the capital is good enough.
When I am done, I check the map and find that Muyaun has done as I asked and marked the tribe locations. I exit the mountain along one of the roads, return to normal form, and take to the sky. Finally, everything is taken care of and I can begin my hunting trip!
For a few minutes, I just enjoy the wind and the freedom from having to worry about other things. I feel far more relaxed after a bit and only then do I turn south and start heading to the nearest location on the map. It is actually two locations that almost overlap, the tribes of the ape and monkey clans.
From what I was told, they are very close knit tribes and will decide together on what to do. Basically, I am going to have to convince both of them to join us or neither one will. However, if I can convince one of the tribes, that one should help me convince the other one.
