After I finish talking with Sarah, I turn my attention back to the ogres. They are already hard at work getting their village ready to be relocated. The only one not busy is the scarred warrior, he is waiting nearby for any orders I might give.
“You never told me your name.”
??? says “My name is Bearaka. I was the champion and chief of the ogre tribe, but now those titles are yours.”
“No, they are still yours. I do not have the time to manage the ogre tribe. You will still be in charge of them until one of your people challenges and replaces you. Your people are going to have to adapt to a lot of changes, so it is best to keep something they are used to. Since you will all be joining the army, later the leadership can be determined by military rank.”
Bearaka says “As you command.”
“My people will do their best to have all new equipment ready for your people by the time you complete the military training.”
Bearaka says “That isn’t necessary, but we will appreciate anything that will increase our strength. May I ask a question?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
Bearaka says “I can understand for the children and younger warriors, but why do you insist on the older warriors going through training? What can they possibly learn from it?”
“Your warriors have fought together before, yes?”
Bearaka says “Yes, of course they have.”
“And the more they fought together, the better they got at it, right?”
Bearaka says “Yes. That is why I say they don’t need any more training.”
“So, you mean that they already know our military signals and know how to fight with all the other races that are part of our military?”
Bearaka says “Uh, no, of course they don’t. I am sorry for doubting you, I didn’t think of that.”
“It’s alright. However, if you think that is all our training consists of, you are seriously underestimating it. It consists of techniques from both my old world and this world. You should really give it a chance.”
Bearaka says “Is that so? Fine, I will make sure all of my people go through the training and give it their all.”
“Good. Your people have good natural strength, but it could be so much more if properly developed.”
Bearaka says “Are you not worried that I will come back and challenge you again if I get stronger?”

“Not really. I am still evolving and getting stronger myself. You have a long way to go to catch up with me. Besides, the goddesses have granted me the ability to gain levels. Without that, you can’t really compete with me.”
Bearaka says “Levels? Goddesses? Could you explain that?”
With a sigh, I take out some mead from my pouch and drink it as I explain things to him. I know the goddesses sent some people out to preach to the beastmen, but I guess they didn’t get this far. I could wait and let someone in the military explain, but it isn’t like I have anything to do right now.
In fact, I have nothing to do but wait until tomorrow when they are ready to move. I would rather continue on to the land bridge, but this is something that needs to be done. Once I am done explaining, Bearaka heads off to spread the word among his tribe.
I am guessing that most of them will become followers of the goddesses after this. In fact, if all of the ogres convert, it will probably encourage the other tribes to do so as well. I see that as a good thing since it will help increase the power of the goddesses.
It is also a good thing for the beastmen since Seronia and Krenocia actually care about their followers. Since there is nothing for me to do, I take to the air and fly around to take a look at the area. As I explore, I send out pulses of mana to scan for anything that might be interesting.
While I don’t spot anything interesting, I do find a hill that is mostly composed of rock. Using mana, I hollow out a decent sized room and put all of the displaced stone into my ring. I plan to use it to make obelisks later, but for now I make a gate platform to leave in the room.
Once the platform is in place, I seal up the room and make sure there is no sign of it from outside. After that, I continue flying around, but I still don’t find anything of interest. Eventually, I give up the search and head back to the ogre tribe after a few hours.
After I land, I have some food and then start making more small obelisks out of the stone I gathered. Once they are all made and enchanted, I take off again and fly around placing them. Since the ogre tribe probably won’t come back to the same spot, I don’t bother placing a big obelisk.
While I am using the map to determine where to place the small obelisks, I check on the messenger. There is a lot more chatting going on than the last time I checked it, mainly from those in Illium. From what I can see, they have been getting to know each other and getting along fairly well.
Ambrose and Roddick have been giving everyone else advice about managing people. The two of them obviously have a lot more experience and I am glad that they are sharing it freely. Stillwater has probably been a leader for longer, but only of elves and they aren’t as hard to lead.
Not to mention that the elves were living in a simple village and Stillwater was just acting as the chief. That has no comparison to leading a guild in a busy city with others trying to replace you. I hope to keep politics in the empire to a minimum, but I know it is impossible to wipe it out completely.
It will be better for everyone if they learn about politics now, before things get more complicated. That isn’t too far away considering that we are in the process of conquering the empire. The more we develop, the more we are going to have to deal with people trying to gain advantages.
Come to think of it, I need to figure out the kingdom’s laws before things get out of hand. That is an important part of setting up the government, but I haven’t even thought about it yet. If I make the laws too simple, we will have people finding ways around them constantly.
However, if I make the laws complicated, then we are going to need to have lawyers. That is something that I don’t want to happen, so I need to come up with a balance between the two. I need laws that are simple enough to understand, but at the same time cover everything I can think of.
