Chapter 3: Autopsy

The hospital toilet entrance is not a place to talk, finally Sun Baozi took this former big brother to a restaurant near the hospital, found a private room and started eating and chatting inside.

After a few beers, Zhang Zihua opened up to Sun Kuangzi and told him all the things that had been bothering him for so many years. After hearing this, Sun Kuangzi also became sentimental, took out his wallet, pulled out all the cash inside, and handed it over to Zhang Zihua, saying: "I didnt bring much money today, you take this first."

He then handed Zhang Zihua a business card with his phone number on it and said, "If anything comes up in the future, just give me a call. In the coming days, Ill also look for a job that suits you and find you a place to live. At least you wont have to worry about food and clothing."

Thinking of his own downfall after being released from prison, it was this former fatso who could still utter a few words of cold comfort. At the moment, this former big brother couldnt help but sigh repeatedly. Sun Fatso originally wanted to offer some more comforting words, but at that time, the phone calls from the authorities came one by one, urging him to hurry up. Having no choice, Sun Fatso paid the bill with his card and left the restaurant first.

The next morning, Sun Baozi returned to the Public Security Bureau without delay. Just as he was about to leave for the hospital, he suddenly received a call from Gao Liang, asking him to go to the Municipal Bureaus Criminal Police Brigade, apparently there was a case that required his assistance in providing leads. At the time, Sun Baozi was anxious to get to the hospital and didnt have time to ask questions in detail. Because such things happened frequently, he didnt think it was a big deal, just treating it as handling some official business before going to the hospital.

However, it wasnt until he arrived at the Criminal Police Brigade that he realized things werent as simple as he thought. He was received by a police captain surnamed Zhang, who knew Suns background and was very polite to him. After a few opening remarks, Captain Zhang quickly got to the point: "Director Sun, do you know Zhang Zihua?"

Suddenly, Zhang Zihua was mentioned, and Sun Baozis heart skipped a beat. His right eyelid twitched irregularly twice, and he had a bad premonition. He thought to himself: "Could it be that this guy has gotten into trouble again and even alerted the criminal police? This doesnt seem like a small matter." After a pause, Sun Baozi said: "We used to have some dealings with each other, and I saw him just yesterday. Is he in trouble or something? If its not a big deal, then as a favor to me, can you let him off with two fewer days of detention? If theres anything that needs to be compensated for, tell me and Ill figure out a way..."

He shook his head with a wry smile and said, "He wont be able to cause any more trouble from now on."

Sun Baozi was taken aback for a moment, blinked his eyes and said: "Cant afford to mess with you - what do you mean?"

Captain Zhang pulled out a pack of cigarettes, handed one to Sun Dawei and lit one himself. He took a drag before speaking: "This morning at 6 oclock, we found a dead body in a rental room. After preliminary identification, the deceased was identified as Zhang Zihua, a tenant of the rental house. Since your business card was found among his personal belongings, according to procedure, we need to ask you to come and understand your relationship with him, and during the time from 2 am to 4 am this morning, where were you? Is there anyone who can prove your alibi?"

"Zhang Zihua is dead..." Sun Baozi was completely stunned, having just seen him yesterday, how could a living person suddenly die? Captain Zhang repeated himself after seeing Deputy Director Sun had no reaction to his words, and it wasnt until then that he snapped back to reality.

"After I sobered up, I said From 2 to 4 in the morning...I was sleeping in the dormitory of our bureau. There is no witness for my alibi, but recently there are surveillance cameras installed in the corridors of the dormitory building. If necessary, you can go check."

At this point, Sun Peng paused for a moment, blinking his eyes at Zhang Dui and said: "Zhang Dui, its not me who said that you can find me, which means Zhang Zihua didnt commit suicide or die from a sudden illness. I dont ask anything else, just want to know how he died."

Zhang Dui looked at Sun Baozi and smiled, saying: "Director Sun, to be honest, our two families are doing similar things, and you also use some rules. Youre still in the case and havent come out yet. According to the rules, I really cant discuss this with you."

"By the book - good, I like it that way." Originally, after hearing the news of Zhang Zihuas death, Sun Pengzi still had a solemn expression on his face. However, when he heard Zhang Dui mention "by the book", Sun Pengzi immediately recovered his usual smile and extinguished the half-smoked cigarette, replacing it with one of his own and taking a puff. Then, grinning at Zhang Dui, he said: "Every year, you sign off on twenty-five special cases sent to our bureau for handling. From now on, well do things by the book too - all cases will be sent to Investigation Room 5 for processing and scheduling. Once we finish our current workload, then well get busy with your special cases."

After hearing Sun Baozis words, Zhang Dàmǒus teeth were chattering with rage. At that moment, his heart was racing fast, and he gritted his teeth to say to Sun Baozi: "Director Sun, we cant do this, this is the capital city, if something happens, you wont be able to take responsibility."

Sun Pangzi burst out laughing and said, "Captain Zhang, guess wholl be the unlucky one if something really happens? You, the captain of the criminal police team, or me, the deputy director of the Civil Affairs Bureau?"

Captain Zhang stared at Sun for a while, finally compromising. After a brief pause, he took out his phone and dialed a few numbers before calling: "Old Wang, the case at 26 Xixi Road underground this morning. Yes, that dismemberment one. The scene hasnt been cleared yet, right? Hmm, keep it for a few more hours. Also, has the forensic department got any results? I know it takes 24 hours to get the report, cant they speed it up...?"

Team leader Zhang finished a confusing phone call and turned back to find that Sun Baozi was no longer in sight. Team leader Zhang spat on the chair where Sun Baozi had sat and muttered to himself: "Starting tomorrow, Ill even report missing persons to your Ministry of Civil Affairs!"

The location of Zhang Zihuas incident was in the suburbs, and Sun Baozi drove for an hour to get there. When he arrived, the police cordon had not been lifted yet, and some elderly men and women were gathered outside the cordon discussing the matter. An old woman said: "I said I heard someone shouting for help early this morning, it was really true. After a few more shouts, there was no movement, and at first, I thought it was just some young hooligans fighting, beating each other up and thats all. Who would have thought that when we opened the door in the morning, the bloody smell hit our noses. Our house is on the fourth floor, and when I went down, the police had just arrived. I took advantage of the chaos to take a look, my god, the corridor inside the basement was covered in blood..."

Sun Baozi listened for a few moments, then pulled open the cordon and walked into the corridor. Fortunately, he had heard that morning that they were going to the Public Security Bureau, so Sun Baozi changed into another set of clothes beforehand, not expecting to use them at this time.

The small policeman standing at the outer perimeter saw Sun Dawei coming in and originally wanted to go over and intercept him. However, after seeing Sun Daweis appearance, he spat out his tongue and retreated back. Sun Dawei walked all the way to the basement, encountering many police officers along the way, but none of them dared to come out and stop him.

The old lady just now didnt lie, Sun Baozi had just entered the corridor when he smelled a pungent bloody smell. He covered his nose and walked into the underground garage crime scene, where he was finally stopped by the first police officer: "Director Sun, is that you? Ive been waiting for you for half a day."

The speaker was a plainclothes man in his thirties, not yet forty. Sun Baozi looked at him and simultaneously turned around in his mind, seemingly having no impression of this person: "Not that Im saying, do you know me?"

Plainclothes smiled again and said, "Just now Zhang Da called me to say that you would be arriving soon and asked me to receive you. I was among the first batch of people to enter the crime scene this morning, so I know more about the case. What do you want to ask?"

When Banyan spoke, Sun Baozi glanced into the house and saw blood flowing all over the floor. Sun Baozi said with some doubt: "Im not saying, bleeding so much, how many people have died?"

The plainclothes policeman sighed and said, "Its just a Zhang Zihua, but the murderers methods are too cruel. Ive been doing this for 17 years and have never encountered such a brutal criminal. You dont know, after seeing the scene, I vomited three times already. For the rest of my life, I dare not touch tofu or bean curd again..." When he said that, the plainclothes policeman suddenly remembered the scene at the crime scene and quickly covered his mouth, almost vomiting again.

"Is it that disgusting?" Sun Baozi glanced at the plainclothes officer and then pushed open the door to enter the crime scene. Zhang Zihua was really down on his luck when he was alive, this underground room he lived in was just a warehouse, and he had to keep an eye on the goods inside. But now the warehouse was filled with fresh blood, if it wasnt for the plainclothes officers previous words, nobody would have thought that a normal person could lose so much blood.

After taking pictures and investigating the scene, the police were all standing outside, but inside, not a single person could be seen. Walking past the extremely high piles of goods, Sun Baozi saw a single bed inside, on which Zhang Zihua was lying in three parts.

Now Sun Dawei finally understood why the police were not guarding the scene of the crime. He saw a single bed in front of him, with a pile of internal organs neatly arranged on it, from head to toe, according to the normal proportions of a human body. Next to the single bed, on one side of the floor, was a piece of human skin, which had something inside, probably muscle tissue or other human organs. The front of this piece of human skin was facing upwards, and it was Zhang Zihua, whom he had seen just yesterday. On the other side was a complete set of human skeleton, which was neatly arranged, with no flesh visible on the white bones. These three parts together were Zhang Zihua, who had been drinking with him just yesterday.

Sun Baozi suddenly felt his throat tighten, and his breakfast was eager to come back up from his stomach...
