Chapter 36.

“Why did you save them?” Jerome finally asked Lucia the question that had been bothering him. Cornering her in the kitchen of their family house, he blocked her escape.

His wife had been avoiding him since the incident against Jason’s shipment. She was obvious with her actions, not wanting to speak to him. They already had separate bedrooms because Lucia said she was not ready but, this was going too far.

Convincing Jerome that she helped them purposefully.

“What?” Lucia tried to feign ignorance to him. Not wanting this conversation. But, the words of the King of the Damned echoed in her head.

Lucia is a model woman. She is a people’s purpose. She knows how to handle a situation or business. She’s gorgeous. She has a farmer girl’s body. Yet the coming reality was her anxiety.

The King of the Damned had call her earlier that day, giving her a task that she could only fulfill. Something that she couldn’t believe was asked of her. Her love for the King of the Damned was genuine so she was going to do it.

To get Jerome and the Rosario Family to attack the Cult of Jason.

“Don’t act like you do not know… When we were fighting those goons from the Cult of Jason,” Jerome reminded her. He had a tendency of being touchy and melodramatic, getting into her comfort zone much to her dislike. “You saved them with your abilities.”

“I didn’t do anything like that,” Lucia denied it and pushed him off. Being this man’s wife for so long was getting to her.

Jerome was hurt by her rejecting him and slowly got enraged, “Why are you denying it!? I saw you push them out of my attack’s trajectory? What is going on with you?”

Lucia looked at him sharply. No matter how much she wanted to break down, she had to keep a strong appearance since she was the head woman of the Rosario Family, “You don’t need to raise your voice.”

“No! Don’t tell me that! You’ve been acting strange recently,” Jerome kept getting louder. As Lucia stepped back, he took a step forward. Not getting a clue from any of this. “You even sold the old Confederation headquarters to Jason! What are you possibly thinking!?”

“I am thinking about this family, that’s why I did it!” Lucia raised her voice back at him, losing control of her emotions by the second.

“That doesn’t make any sense! You invite the enemy in our lands and go as far as saving them from us? You are being ridiculous, Lucia! No matter how much I love you I can’t understand you!” He shouted at her. Hearing him say he loved her made Lucia feel disgusted. “I know what it is…”

Lucia broke down to her knees and started crying heavily. Unable to control her rampant sobs.

“It’s that boy, the King of the Damned! You’re still thinking about that bastard despite how much I love you!” Jerome began disrespecting him in his blind rage. Which made Lucia become silent. “You still think about him when he killed my father? The old head of the Rosario’s”

Lucia remembered that day well and how happy she was when the King of the Damned defended her, it made her heart bitter as she cried silently.

“My father fought because you were my betrothed and he caught you in bed with that bastard!” Jerome kept yelling at her, standing over the poor woman. “No matter how much I love you, you’re still gonna pick that villainous, monstrous, disgusting brat over me!”

Silence reigned over the room as Jerome reached the climax of his words. Unable to speak more since he got it out of his system, he wanted an answer from her.

Lucia knew what to do now. She knew exactly how to get Jerome to attack Jason. What he said was true, Lucia would always choose the King of the Damned over him.

“I never loved you…” Lucia helped herself up using the counter. Jerome trembled upon hearing those words. “I don’t think I ever will.”

“You’re overbearing, you’re too traditional, you’re too stuck in this family’s bad ways,” Lucia explained and kept going on.

“No… Don’t say that… I can change…” Jerome’s voice became weak as he spoke. Those words were tearing him about.

“No, I won’t love you,” Lucia showed him a genuine smile, the first in years. “You’re right. I love that boy, the King of the Damned.”

“You…!” Jerome’s emotions became a battle of sadness, grief and rage.

“He didn’t want to kill the old head of the Rosario Family, he only wanted to see me,” Lucia felt nothing to the death of that man. He was an old-fashioned man that didn’t want the Rosario Family to change, and her uncle. “The King of the Damned is everything a man should be and I will only love him…”

“It’s not too late!” Jerome lost all his rationality. All because he loved this woman. Years he spent waiting for her from they were just cousins, asking his father to make her his betrothed.

“Yes, it’s too late! I am carrying his child, Jerome!” Lucia yelled, holding her womb as she spoke with intense emotions.

Jerome’s eyes widened, his grip shattered the counter. That meant even while they were married, Lucia was meeting that man. Jerome has only ever kissed her once and it was their wedding day. They don’t sleep in the same room and he can’t even hold her hand. Tears swelled in his eyes.

“You bitch!” Bewitched by his rage, his hand instinctively moved to hit her.

Both it could collide, someone stepped in-between the attack. It was Amethyst, holding him back with ease. Amethyst’s glared at him, “Watch it or I’ll have to set you straight, cousin.”

Skylar held his sister dearly and shouted at Jerome, “You must have lost your damn mind!”

“I don’t need any of this! She is a disgrace to the Rosario Family!” Jerome declared despite his running tears. He marched out of the kitchen.

“Where are you going!?” Amethyst yelled at him. That man was still the head of the Rosario Family, he couldn’t lose his sense of direction.

“I am going to get rid of that devil from my lands,” Jerome stated, going to call all members of the family to prepare for war. “When I am back, I want that woman out of my house.”

“Don’t stop him…” Lucia placed his hand on Amethyst who was about to move.

“Girl, don’t worry about that right now,” Skylar said to his sister and held her hands firmly. “I need you to worry about you.”

“I wasn’t going to stop him. I don’t have the same beliefs as you, big sis,” Amethyst said firmly to his big sister.

Lucia’s eyes widened at the realization of his words. This wasn’t in his plans, she didn’t except Amethyst to go too. Amethyst is too powerful, it would make it that Jason’s new quarters is destroyed rather than stalled.

“My loyalty stands with the Rosario Family.”
