Chapter 37 - The Heroes Return

Ghostflake and Miss Cantankerous returned to MI18, victorious in their crusade against evil. All of the desk agents stood from their places and observed the bruised and wounded field agents. They all stood in silence, paying their respects to their fallen comrades. The chief looked at the two agents as they entered his office.

“Is it done?” He asked them.

“Pulvis is of no threat to us any longer.” Miss Cantankerous replied. The chief raised an eyebrow.

“Ellis Silver is dead?” He asked, not believing what he was hearing.

  “Quite.” Ghostflake replied.

  “What of Pulvis itself?”

“It is nothing but a mass grave now.”

“Well then,” He said, jumping up from his chair, his eyes widening in joy. “I think that this calls for a celebration.” Walking over to a cabinet, he opened it and took three flutes. He popped open a bottle of champagne and filled the glasses up. He handed two of them to his assassins and took the last one for himself. He raised his glass and so did Ghostflake and Miss Cantankerous. “Pulvis is done for and we need not fear them any longer. We defeated both Artificis and Ellis and we will take down anyone else that dares to threaten this great nation's peace. We will crush our enemies no matter what it takes and we shall always be victorious.”

They all clinked their glasses and drank an ounce. Miss Cantankerous looked at the chief. “But no one knows that we even exist.”

He gave her a small, solemn smile. “That's the saddest thing about working here, my dear.”
