TBE Chapter 22

  The sun was already setting when Ezekiel and his two brothers arrived home. He immediately transferred the water from the three plastic gallons to their water barrel and after that prepared dinner for everyone, which was one of the dishes that he cooked.

  “Brother, can we have the meat between the bread that we ate before?” Robert asked.

  “It’s called a hamburger but maybe later since eating those all the time is not good for the body.”

  After hearing Ezekiel’s answer, Robert and Luke ate their dinner without complaint since the dinner he cooked was delicious as well. When their dinner was done, Robert and Luke played with each other using the toys that he gave them while Ezekiel looked at his system browser.

  He enjoyed looking at the seven slots available to him. 4 slots for cantrips, 2 slots for 1st level spells, and 1 slot for 2nd level spells. Ezekiel’s experience bar also said that he already had 10 percent so 90 percent more and he would be able to reach level 3 which was a sought-after level due to the spells that he could get from the wizard spell list. He wanted to get the spell Fly and Galder’s Tower as soon as possible since Fly would make traveling easier for him and Galder’s Tower would make sure that they would have a comfortable and safe house that he and his brother could stay in.

  Ezekiel planned to go into the forest the next day since he wanted to hunt animals that could help him increase his level and earn some coins at the same time. Once he reached level 3, earning levels could take a rest and he could focus on earning coins through the items that he could purchase from the system shopping site and focus on making their bodies healthier.

  At least he didn’t have to spend an untold amount of coins for ingredients for his spell. That was one of the changes that his system made in casting spells, not requiring material components that he was really glad happened. Actually, the fact that all of his spell casting didn’t require any components at all like verbal or somatic made his spells overpowered, and even though as a DnD gamer, that kind of system would have made his hackles rise back on Earth, in here, it was a very welcome change.

  That was because Ezekiel knew that he would need all the advantages that he could get to make sure that he and his siblings survived.

  Ezekiel also decided that once Robert was stronger or even older, he would buy the kid a weapon that he could use while they were hunting like maybe a crossbow but right now it was dangerous to let Robert handle something like that.

  After a couple of hours, Ezekiel called his brothers since it was time for them to sleep. He cleaned them and their clothes first, which was made easier due to the fact that he now had 7 slots and then after that, he cleaned himself and his clothes as well. Then he cast Mage Armor on all of them for insurance, then cast Alarm to make sure that nothing would surprise him during the night.

  Ezekiel then turned off their lantern and he prepared his spells as well. He put the Magic Missile on the 2nd level slot and that would increase the spell's power and increase the glowing missiles by one. Then he put in the Sleep spell and Healing Elixir spells on the 1st level slot and in the cantrip slots, he put Magic Missile on 3 of the slots and Prestidigitation on the last cantrip slot.

  After he prepared all of his spells, Ezekiel continued reading the fairy tale story that he started to read to his brothers until they were asleep.

  While he was waiting to sleep, Ezekiel contemplated his spell-casting ability. The good thing about his system was, he could cast all of his purchased spells without any problem if he had the time to swap them out. He then thought of the best combination of spells that he should put in the slots while they were traveling. Magic Missile was more powerful than Fire Bolt since the spell could also be treated as an area of effect spell due to it containing three missiles per cast that could hit intended targets so right now, it was his best offensive spell. The Sleep Spell was a good auxiliary spell but he wanted a better defensive spell than Mage Armor.

  Ezekiel checked the wizard spell list again for defensive spells level 2 and below and the defensive spells that he could probably best use during combat were the spells Shield and False Life. He also thought that the spell Web was also a good spell that could hinder enemies.

  He then thought that it would be best to think about them some more before he committed his few coins to purchasing spells since the spells that he had right now were good enough for the enemies they encountered in the forest.

  It was just he was a bit worried about bringing Robert and Luke with him every time he entered the forest and right now, the two kids were too insecure to be left alone. He could understand that since his predecessor did die leaving them alone.

  Ezekiel then thought of the spells that he could use during their travel to a city once they started their journey. The best spell, according to the internet, was Galder’s Tower since it would make sure that their stay on the road would be safe and comfortable.

  Until he learned about magic taboos though, Ezekiel didn’t plan to advertise his ability to cast spells and that meant that he would probably purchase a cart and a horse. At least with the tower, they could easily explain that they found it in the wilderness or something but how could he explain it if people saw him flying and being followed by a magical floating disk with two kids riding on top of it?

  Ezekiel also was sure that level 3 was going to be a breakpoint meaning he would probably stay on the level for a long time since he was quite certain that it would take a lot more aggressive enemies before he could increase his experience bar, that was if there were no magical monsters or some such things.

  He also assumed and prepared himself that leveling up to level 3 would be extremely difficult compared to how he leveled up to level 2. At least, he could use the time leveling up to also earn coins from the villagers through the game animals that he would hunt or through the items that he would purchase from his system shopping site to sell to the villagers.

  Ezekiel contemplated a lot of things and soon he was asleep. The next day arrived and when he woke up, he saw that it was 5 in the morning in his system browser. He went outside to wait for his brothers to wake up so he could serve them their breakfast.

  While he was waiting, he thought of the fact that even though he had access to the internet, he hadn’t been able to utilize it to read a novel or watch a video. He had been very busy for the past several days. He decided to check the news and based on what he had read, Earth was moving forward just as it was even though he was not there anymore. He then curiously searched the news about him and actually found it.

  The news said that he was found dead in his room and based on the report, it was a heart attack caused by the grave news that he had received which was him developing lung cancer. Ezekiel immediately stopped reading about his past self and closed his system browser. It was morbid of him to read about his death and knew that continuing would only lead to some sort of depression which he couldn’t afford to indulge in right now. Two young kids were depending on him so he should focus on that instead.

  Soon, Robert and Luke woke up so Ezekiel prepared breakfast for everyone.

  “Are we going to enter the forest today?” Robert asked while they were eating.

  “Yes since to be honest, I need to kill a lot of aggressive animals to make sure that my magic becomes more powerful. With more powerful magic, it will allow me to conjure more delicious food and even a beautiful home someday.”

  Robert nodded when he heard that and the kid said that it was all right to go inside the forest as long as they were with him.

  Luke then suddenly said that he wanted to eat the magic pills and Ezekiel was astonished that the kid remembered what he said about the vitamins so all of them took some. At least with Luke around, they would not be able to forget to drink their vitamins and he praised Luke because of that. Ezekiel was amused though when he saw Robert was jealous about the praise he gave Luke so he just ruffled Robert’s hair.

  After breakfast, Ezekiel cast Mage Armor on all of them then he cast Tenser’s Floating Disk and then changed his spells to the ones that he would use for hunting animals.

  Robert and Luke climbed on the disk and Ezekiel started walking deep into the forest and the disk followed him.
