TBE Chapter 56

  TBE Chapter 56

Ezekiel paid for a room for three days and three nights and it cost him three silver coins. It was costly but it did include breakfast so he paid it without any complaint.

“Let me lead you to your room,” the jovial innkeeper said.

“Not yet sir. We have to go to where our cart is placed so we can retrieve our things. The meat from the animals that I’ve butchered is there as well. They’re truly fresh so if you’re interested, you can check them out,” Ezekiel told the man.

He was just glad that before they entered the village, Ezekiel already placed the meat inside their large chest that was placed in the cart. On the way to the stable where he assumed the cart was placed, they encountered the stableman leading Robert to the inn.

“Brother! Prince Charming is comfortable and John here promised that he’ll take care of our donkey!” Robert shouted and Ezekiel just smiled.

“I’ve rented us a room and we’ll stay here for three days. You and Luke can go play with the villagers while I sell things in the market but first, we need to retrieve our things from the cart and show the meat to Innkeeper Rodrick.”

When they arrived where the cart was located, which was the inn stable, Ezekiel only showed the chest to the innkeeper and did not open the tarpaulin that was covering the rest of the cart. He did not want to show that there were not many things underneath it since most of their things were inside Ezekiel’s 4th tab space.

Ezekiel showed the boar and pheasant meat to the butcher and when the innkeeper saw that the meat was truly fresh, the man decided to purchase some but then Ezekiel asked the innkeeper if he could sell the rest to others for a ten percent commission and the innkeeper agreed immediately. He didn’t want to handle the meat anymore and wanted to dispose of it as soon as possible. Of course, there were still some left in his inventory that Ezekiel could use once he decided to cook some dishes but the main reason was that he didn’t want to startle the innkeeper on how much meat they had.

Ezekiel earned a whopping 5 silver coins from all of the meat since the innkeeper decided to pay for all of the meat immediately. He was guessing that the jovial man would earn a lot from the commission but he didn’t care too much about that.

Innkeeper Rodrick called another man and the three of them retrieved all of the meat from Ezekeil’s chest. He then told the innkeeper that he would handle the cleanup of the cart and made it obvious that he was waiting for him and his men to leave before cleaning the cart and retrieving their things which just made the fat innkeeper laugh.

Once the innkeeper had left, Ezekiel told his brothers that they could go explore the village if they wanted to. Robert and Luke ran outside the stable to explore and Ezekiel silently commanded Yuki Onna to look after his brothers.

Ezekiel then proceeded to use his Prestidigitation spell on everything including Prince Charming to make sure that they were all clean and after that, he arranged all the items that he was planning to sell inside the chest as well as the display cases that he would use to display the small wooden arts and furniture that he would sell at the village market.

He then retrieved the notebook that he was using as his account notebook and tagged the items prices that he would sell the item for which was ten times the amount that he purchased it for from his system shopping site. He listed them in the notebook being very particular on the arrangement since he did not want to mix them up.

Ezekiel did encounter some difficulties and decided to purchase a Post-it note from his system shopping site for 10 copper coins. He then used the small Post-it notes to tag each of the items with their prices.

He was a bit worried that the items would be stolen so he called on the stableman.

  “Excuse me, what’s your name?”

“My name is John, young sir. How may I help you?”

“The items that I’ve made from wood that I’m planning to sell to the market are a bit valuable and I’m worried that they will be stolen,” Ezekiel told John the young stableman.

“You don’t need to worry about that. We folks here are a peaceful lot but I’ll look after your things as well,” John the stableman said so Ezekiel gave him three copper coins as a tip which made the man grateful.

Ezekiel remembered the time when the only coins he had on himself were three copper coins. That was when he woke up in the forest when he first transmigrated and the first thing that he bought was a loaf of bread.

He briefly checked on Robert and Luke through Yuki Onna who was watching them through the nearby trees and surprisingly, they found a group of kids their age and was playing some sort of tag.

He went inside the inn carrying the boys’ backpack and when he entered, he saw the girl who was the first one he saw when Ezekiel entered the inn.

“Young Zeke, right? My name is Portia and I’m Innkeeper Rodrick’s daughter. Father told me to lead you to your room when you arrive. He’s busy right now handling all the meat that he purchased from you.”

Ezekiel then thought that that was the reason why the young woman was so sassy. She was the daughter of the house. Portia led him to the inn’s second floor and on the first room to the right, the girl told him that it was the room they rented.

Portia opened the door and saw that the room was big enough and clean enough and the bed was large enough for him and his two brothers. Unfortunately, the bathroom was located in the inn’s basement as well as the toilet so that meant that they would have to walk downstairs to take a bath and use the toilet.

He gave Portia a copper coin as a tip. The girl was startled when she received the coin and laughed. She said goodbye and left Ezekiel in the room. He wondered why the girl laughed but then he didn’t bother thinking about it anymore. The first thing that he did was to clean everything using his Prestidigitation spell and it resulted in the air turning fresh and all the dirt that couldn’t be cleaned by scrubbing being removed.

The main purpose of his using his favorite spell to clean the whole room was to make sure that he wouldn’t wake up in the middle of the night covered in insect bites. Ezekiel checked the time and it was already around three in the afternoon. He decided to explore the village himself, particularly the market, and would only start selling his items the next day.

Ezekiel briefly checked the boys and saw that Robert, Luke, and their new friends were sitting beneath a huge tree and they were talking to each other. Probably resting after an energetic play.

He spent 3 copper coins to purchase 2 loaves of chocolate-flavored bread and a liter of cold water. He then put it in a large enough sack, called on Yuki Onna, and asked the familiar to deliver the food to his brothers and their new friends.

Ezekiel kept on watching through Yuki Onna’s eyes and saw that his brothers’ friends were amazed at the beautiful familiar delivering food to them. After the food was delivered, the familiar hid itself amongst the trees again.

Robert and Luke saw that there were two loaves of bread so they shared them with their new friends. After a few more minutes of watching the kids enjoying their snacks, Ezekiel continued exploring the village.

The road was straightforward enough and soon he found the market. The village was as large as the other village where he first sold his items and he would probably earn some coins here as well.

He checked the different items that were being sold and the prices of those items, There were not a lot and there were noticeable absences like fish and other food from the sea.

Ezekiel was glad that the villagers were entertaining his questions even though he had not bought a thing so far. More than likely, his clothing, which was of a better quality compared to the villagers, helped with their treatment of him.

He did not purchase a thing since the products in his system shopping site were better and way cheaper compared to anything the villagers were selling. He did purchase some skewered meat street food since it’s a bit embarrassing to keep walking around and asking questions without purchasing anything. He also purchased three wide-brim hats that were made of straws to protect him and his brothers from the sun for 9 copper coins. Again, the ones from his system were better and cheaper but he wanted an amicable relationship with the villagers so he spent a few copper coins on them to show that he was a paying customer.

Ezekiel did share with some of the merchants that he was a woodworker and was planning to sell some small crafted wooden art and furniture the next day.
