Jaxson and I made camp far away from our old ones. But near the drop of endless darkness.
I sit near the fire and I see Jaxson bring back more firewood for us. He drops the wood on the ground and stands there. I expect him to sit down across the fire from me but then he moves around the fire and sits right next to me. Our arms touch.
“Are you okay? You know from earlier today,” Jaxson asks while he slides his hand into mine.

“Um, yeah,” I turn to him, “I’ll be honest I feel better right now than this morning,” I smile at Jaxson and he returns a smile.
“How about you?” I ask. Jaxson looks down and then off into the distance.
“I feel the same, I feel a lot better right now,” he squeezes my hand and my face gets warm. Jaxson takes his other hand and puts my hair behind my ear. He smiles again. I love his smile. It's so heartwarming. He puts his cold hand on my cheek. He leans in. Wait, this can't be happening. Is this really happening?
Our lips meet. Jaxson is kissing me. I feel warm inside. And not just because the fire is next to us. Jaxson puts his hand down and we stop kissing. I lay my head on his shoulder and we enjoy the bright fire together in the night.
This is the best moment I've had since this stupid stuff ever started.
