A few minutes had passed on the Elevator. Doctors, Nurses, and patients alike, came and left, paying no attention to Brent. Who stood quietly in the corner of the elevator not offering even the slightest of greetings to anyone. Brent’s thoughts were too busy racing a hundred miles an hour to even look up at anyone. His heart was filled with nothing but questions. It was a dangerous mindset to be in, but Brent didn’t have the energy to stop it.
A familiar voice yanked him away from his thoughts.”You’ve seen better days haven’t you, darling?” She said, Her tone sounded nurturing to Brent. Though it only worked to calm him just long enough for her to pull him into her arms and hug him. Brent recognized the green coloring of her scrubs, through a few tears that had taken shape in his eyes. He lifted his head up to catch the source of comfort that held him in her embrace. “Don’t worry darling, it will all work itself out.” Came the voice of the ginger haired beauty. He recognized Nat’s face as soon as his vision cleared.
“Nat?” Brent said, a half smile forming on his face. “What are you doing here?” He asked, his eyes dodging hers. He couldn’t bring himself to make direct eye contact with her.
“I’m everywhere nowadays.” she said, smiling at him. “I’m helping out a friend today. You should come meet him. If I remember right, he should have the free time in his schedule. I’m sure he could help put you at ease about things.” she said, pushing one of the buttons on the elevator.
“How could he possibly do that for me?” Brent replied, his eyes gravitating to the floor. “It’d take an act of God to put my mind at ease.”
“Give him a chance, darling.” she said with a slight giggle. “Let him work his magic. You’d be surprised at the kind of miracles he can perform.” The ding of the elevator told Brent that they had stopped at Nat’s floor. “Come on, hon. Follow me,” Nat said, tugging on Brent’s arm.
Brent let out a soft sigh and shrugged. His feet dragged him out of the elevator. His half smile had faded away and turned into a look of confusion. A gold plate with the name “Aeryn Love, Human affairs” engraved on it, sat on the upper part of the wooden door. The name struck a familiar cord in Brent’s mind. He plunged his fingers into his pockets and began to scrounge around in search of something. He managed to find one of the business cards and brought it up to his eyes, reading the name over again.
Before Brent could even form the question on his lips, Nat tugged on his arm and gestured him through the doorway. The song “Time in a Bottle” played at a low volume through the speakers. The melody seemed to match the clocks that sat on each wall of the office. “I’ll go tell the Doctor you’re here.” Nat said, fiddling with the keyboard behind the check-in desk. Brent nodded and plunged his hands into his pockets. Brent thought about it as he waited. Wondering exactly what it was that he had let Nat drag him into.

“Brent Moore!” His voice sounded almost loud and ominous. Brent recognized the face of the man behind the voice as soon as he looked at him. “Hey! I remember you from the mall. How are you doing?”
“Chris? I’m doing alright, thanks for asking.” Brent replied brushing past the man in scarlet red scrubs. “I thought you worked as a Carpenter. What are you doing here?”
“I’m a man of many talents.” he replied, his voice both calm and warming. “I go wherever I’m needed most. I’m sorry to hear about your fiance. Don't sweat it though, it will work itself out.”
“Has everyone heard about that already?” Brent replied, watching the floor as they walked.”The gossip chain must be very alive in this hospital.”
“I hear about everything that goes on around me. The Doctor will be here in a minute.” Chris said, opening the door to a small room. “Make yourself comfortable on the couch and try to relax.”
Brent nodded and made himself comfortable on the couch. He cupped his hands together and let his mind wander. Katie’s image had crept into his mind again and along with it, came the memory of their argument. Each second the scene replayed in his mind, seemed to push the knife in further. A tear formed at the corner of each of his eyes. He drew a deep breath and opened his eyes. He choked down the pain and attempted to compose himself. His hands cupped over his face and shot a glance at the door, the second he heard it click.
“Mr. Moore? I’m Dr. Love, My associate tells me that you’ve been having relationship problems.” Aeryn said, closing the door slowly behind him. “Please, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.”
Brent tried to choke back his feelings long enough to respond. “Not unless you can fix my relationship before Saturday,” He said with a huff. Brent refused to make eye contact with the doctor focusing his sights solely on the wall of the office. “There’s nothing I can think of that could fix this.”
“What if I told you there is something I could do?” The Doctor replied, brushing his long blonde hair from his eyes. “All you have to do is follow the prescription.”
“What kind of prescription is that? Are you going to put me on some sort of addictive anti-depressant or something?” Brent asked, casting a sarcastic glance at Dr.Love.”What are you? Some sort of love Doctor?”
“I know it sounds crazy, but there’s nothing addicting about it.” Aeryn replied, reaching into a pocket of his coat and taking out a bottle of capsuled pills. “It’s not an anit-depressant. Just take one capsule anytime you think about a past bad memory and go to sleep. When you wake up the next morning, you’ll have a second chance. There’s no side effects or long term effects. All it takes is time. You won’t lose any memories or previous knowledge. Just give it a try and call me in the morning. I believe you already have my card. If you need any additional information, just give me a call.”
“Yeah, okay. . “ Brent replied with a sarcastic smirk, snatching the pill bottle from Dr. Love’s hands. “I’ll talk to you soon, I’m sure.” Brent rose to his feet and stuffed the pill bottle in his pocket. He pushed the office door open and stormed off down the hallway, “Thanks,” He shouted to Nat, not even pausing to wave to her as he made his way toward the Elevator.
