Chapter 51: Awakened First Grade

  {Bell Noises coming from within the town}

"Uh? What is going on back there?" Alex is the first one to notice the bell sounds even before me, and a voice quickly comes from within the town using some sort of amplifier or something. "Emergency alert! EMERGENCY Alert! Tryglocedons have been spotted a couple of yards outside of town! All adventurers able to fight must help!"

"Tryglocedons are at least diamond treat level; there's no way a bunch of beginner adventurers like us can be of use. Why wouldn't they just leave town?" Nero is the first one to take action before even Alex, as he steps right before us to stop us from going back into town.

"So you know what they are, Nero?" Alex asks Nero, who seems almost out of character, acting like he's seen a ghost or something. "Yes! Tryglocedons are deadly creatures with long, flexible legs and reaper-like, pointy feet. They usually stand around twenty feet tall."

Since I don't want to wait and see things as Nero describes them, I soon start scanning the area near town with my enhanced telescope-like vision, trying to find what he describes. Yet what I see after zooming into town is nothing short of gruesome as all I manage to see at first glance is just a bunch of dead bodies all over town.

The wounds on all the dead bodies are gross, and from what I can see, most resemble hole-like perforations made by something pointy like Nero described. "I'd say we don't go into town." That's all I decide to say as I try not to get into a bloodlust rage since seeing that much blood up for grabs makes me incredibly hungry.

"But all the people in there need our help!" Seras hesitates not to help until Nero says the same thing I did. "I advise against going into town; let's just go to Rivera City," Nero responds to Seras, who then looks toward Alex and gets the same cold attitude as Nero after analyzing the data.

"If the things are as strong as Nero says, and he doesn't feel like fighting them even though he is a fight addict, then I'd say we leave. If Nero outright denies a fight, then you know it's serious." Poor Seras then looked right at me, but just like the guys, I just didn't see the point in joining the casualties. I may be strong, but going into a losing battle has no point.

"Come on, Annabel! Help me here! These guys are insensitive! The people are dying! We need to help!" Seras tries to get me to agree with her with all her might, but I just can't. My survival instincts tell me that this will not go well if we go into town to fight apocalyptic-like creatures.

"Don't look at me. I know that people are dying, but I refuse to become another casualty. It's irrational to go there and help." I say back at Seras, who tightly grips her staff just to call us all "Cowards" as she looks very disappointed at us when we are already going the other way.

"Stop being the hero, Seras; things like these happen all the time. You'll get over it." Alex is the one to push Seras to the edge in the end as she stupidly starts running into town, forcing her friends to try to stop her before it's too late. "Fine! If you don't want to help, then I'll do it myself!"

Being a coward isn't so bad, is it? I mean, there are times when you have to be a hero, but if Nero is correct, then we stand no chance of victory. Going to war against those things would not be heroic. It would just be stupid, wouldn't it? I mean, who would be able to tell the difference between stupidly going to fight at the last minute and heroism if you die?

Yet, lady fate seems to have it out for me as I soon come to find out that on the path we just took, one of those creatures awaited us. "Guys! Is that one of those things!?" I yell at them as I slowly retreat after seeing the large crab-like creature with long, pointy legs coated with a terrifying reddish color.

The eyes of the creature were freaky, looking like the eyes you'd see on a fly or a honey bee. The shape of their mouth was like that of the inside of a shark's mouth with many moving teeth, almost like little saws ready to eat you, but what made it worse was that at the back of their head, there was a bunch of blood with a vent through it.

"What is that!?" Seras stupidly says as she finally stops running into town, which calls the attention of the creature that immediately seems to lock onto me, charging at speeds so incredibly fast it takes me by surprise. The thing ran at a breakneck speed of over one hundred miles an hour right off the VAT without needing acceleration. It just did, which is probably why it only took a couple of seconds for it to reach me.

Now, they say that panic is your worst enemy, and to the people who say that, I'd say you're right since I just froze in place as the creature impaled my abdomen with its legs, causing a tremendous amount of trauma right away. Goddamn, the creatures in this world are all overpowered! How the fuck am I meant to fight that!?

No! What am I saying!? Am I going to give up just because I can't see how I can fight these things now!? What would my ancestors say? That's right; humanity has been fighting creatures much stronger than them for as long as we've been around; just think of the massive rhinos the Neanderthals used to kill, as well as the terrifying cave bears of their time.

We've been fighting losing battles for as long as we've existed, and I am giving up in the face of trouble!? I've fought soldiers, killed a bear with my bare hands, killed people with nothing but a stick, and I am giving up now!? "NO WAY!" Out of the water, I can feel a deep heat within me as my body quickly begins to steam.

The creature doesn't seem to care at first, and it almost chomps me down right then until the heat bothers it enough to kind of just shake me off its tentacle-like leg. Luckily for me, the others soon came to help even though it would be futile, and they barely knew me. They came in to help me right away, with Seras almost comically launching a magic ball against it that doesn't even stretch it.

"Oh shit!" Seras says as she goes down in a single move by the creature that mercilessly charges at her and does the same it did to me, hitting her right in the chest, probably killing her in an instant as she stops moving right away, leading to Alex and Nero to try and cut the thing with their swords but they just break on them.

"WHAT THE!?" Alex doesn't believe it as his sword shatters against the creature, which then just devours Seras right before everyone, pulverizing her body with those moving teeth and then just pooping her remains out of the back of its head, throwing blood everywhere.

The Tryglocedon is ruthless and almost immediately tries to snuff Alex out, but Nero stops it by sacrificing his left arm to protect his friend. This just delays the inevitable, as the creature quickly starts overwhelming both of them with its many legs. To make things worse, the creature's noises attract the attention of all the other creatures as I watch, feeling the rage build up, trying to keep my head leveled.

At this point, I can feel the inside of my body burning as all the other creatures focus on me. I just stand still, letting all the creatures come at me as I feel the heat of a thousand suns boiling inside me. The movements around me quickly slow down, almost as if time itself slowed down.

Once all the hard steaming goes away, and the results become visible, all that can be seen is a bunch of shattered Tryglocedon legs finally calling the attention off the one attacking Alex and Nero, who were hurt really bad by now with holes all over their limbs. "GRADE FIRST!" That's all I can think of or say as I finally come to my senses with more adrenaline than ever, quickly rushing the creature's legs bare-handed.

For some reason, I don't know why or how, but I had the feeling I could cut through the hardened legs of things with my bare hands. So I just did that with one of them, quickly turning the thing's legs into mush with just raw strenght alone, leaving minor marks on my fists, causing the Tryglocedon to squeal in pain as Nero and Alex both looked at me.

The blood of the creature quickly spills onto me, which only seems to help with my rush as I feel more invigorated than I've ever felt. I quickly turn against the remaining four creatures, which don't give up that easily, all trying to smush me, yet even when their attacks land, they just hurt themselves as my skin seems to be harder than their armor.

Was this the potential Buster talked about so much!? "You'll feel it when it's your time to shine; I can't do that for you. Only you can," Buster's words ring deep in my ear, motivating me to go for total annihilation. "RAAAAAAGGHHG!" A Tryglocedon squeals as I mercilessly stab it in its many eyes, quickly turning its head into mush.

Even Martigan looks surprised as I stare directly at him, noticing he'd been following us this whole time. Out of the five Tryglocedons, I only manage to kill three as the other two flee for their dear lives avoiding conflict after realizing that they could not beat me; damn so they were kind of smart; what a vile bunch of monsters.

For my part, my adrenaline rush was already ending, and what was worse, my body ached like hell. I could feel all my muscles contracting and twisting inside my body, rapidly bringing me to my knees in deep pain as my skin tore itself apart through my entire body, leading to tremendous bleeding. "AHHHGG AHHHHH!"

My only saving grace was the blood on the floor, which my body absorbed right as I passed out from the pain, which was way too much for me to bear anymore.
