Chapter 17

After a failed attempt to find the boxes Clara and her driver return to St. Bethanie’s, where the priest tells her that Jack had a rather loud and angry phone conversation with Father Murray, “I heard him say that he was done with his wild goose chase and that he was going home.”

“What do you mean Father, why did you let him leave by himself?”

“Well Miss Harris, Father Murray hired him to do this work, I was unaware that he needed to be kept here!” The priest said smugly.

“Father you understand why we are here, it makes no sense for you to have let him run off like that!” She said becoming more hostile in tone.

“As I said Miss Harris it is his job, not mine. He said to call Father Murray if you need directions. Now if you have nothing else for me I will take my leave and may the Lord smile upon you in your quest.” The priest turned and went back into his office. The driver stood and started to move toward the office and Clara grabbed his arm and stated

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

“NO!, they are not that involved, and it will bring unwanted attention to us. The Dark Lord is expecting fast results not this level of incompetence.”

The driver nodded in the affirmative, and they turned and walked out of the church. Back in the car, Clara’s fingers trembled as she dialed a number into her phone,

“Yes,” a voice replied cold and commanding,

“Your Lordship, Porter had an argument with Father Murray, he has decided to end his participation and is now headed home. What are your orders?” She asked.

The Blood Pope’s response sent a chill down her spine. “Go back to your church in Las Vegas that is where he is supposed to deliver them to. Watch over it, if he has tried to throw you off and he shows up with them, then take possession of the boxes by any means necessary, again, by any means necessary.” the Blood Pope said coldly.

“Yes your Lordship I understand,” she said looking at the driver as a smile appeared on his face. They understood what needed to be done.
