To Hogwarts

I wait every day for my letter. It is already 16 July. I also worry about the possibility of not getting a letter. But that seems impossible, since I have already shown signs of magic.

I look out of the window, waiting for an owl. After some time, I do see a brown owl arriving at our gate. With adrenaline and dopamine coursing through my veins, I rush to the mailbox. It's addressed to my father. I hand it over to a house-elf and continue to wait. A second owl arrives and I rush again, to find it's addressed to my mother. Then, a third owl arrives and I rush again. 'It's addressed to me.' I say, gleaming. As soon as I open the envelope, my excitement fades. It's my aunt, not Dumbledore.

Exhausted, I go to my room and set the letter on the table. I lie down on my bed. The soft bedsheet lifting my weight, the soft mattress soothing my sadness. The bright yellow bedsheet, asking me not to give up hope.

As I hide my face in the pillow, my parents arrive. They try to wake me up but I am too sad.

Until my mother starts reading the letter.

  'Dear Ms. Brown,

We are delighted to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find-'

As soon as I hear "Hogwarts", I rise up and try to snatch the letter from my mother, to which she lifts it high so I can't reach it, but I climb on her and get it anyway.

After my little victory, my parents give me the brightest smiles. I continue to read the letter out loud.

'Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on the first of September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

  Yours sincerely,

  Minerva McGonagall

  Deputy Headmistress.'

I jump on my bed up and down as I am ecstatic. My father writes a reply to Hogwarts on my behalf and goes out of the room to give it to Bric, the owl. Our family has 4 owls. One is white as snow, called Snowy; he is the most reliable owl and is used for business purposes. While the other three are our personal owls. Mother has Daisy, a black owl, while father has the grey one, Wind, and I have Bric, a tawny owl. I saved him in the snow when he was a baby, and from then on, he has been with me.

If all four owls are out to deliver letters, we go to the posting shop where you can get an owl for 8 knucks.

As I have explained the owls. Back to me. I am going to Hogwarts. I chat with my mother, full of excitement, 'Momma, there's so much to do. We need to go shopping, buy new clothes, and can we go to Diagon Alley? I've always wanted to see it.'

'Relax, relax,' she says, trying to calm me down. 'We will do as you'd like.' She is still smiling at me with sweetness, pinching my nose.

  'I will go tell Dolly.'

Since there was no one my age around here, Dolly has been my only friend all these years. I can finally go and meet peers of my age, and form friendships. I can meet Neville, Ron, Hermione, Harry, Luna and so many more characters. They would be there in front of me.

I shout out with excitement on my way to find Dolly, my voice bursting with joy. 'I am going to Hogwarts.'

I finally found her in the kitchen cleaning plates. 'Dolly, Dolly, I got my letter,' flashing a big smile at her.

Dolly smiled and put down the plate. As soon as she put it down, I held her hand tightly. She warmly smiled back and said, 'I know. You shouted out all the way here. In a few hours, the whole of Brackenheath would know.'

I continue to smile foolishly and yap about all the things I need to do and how much there is to prepare.

As I talk with Dolly, the bell rings. I rush to open the door, I don't know what for. Usually, hous-elves open the door but sometimes we do it as well. Mrs. Briarwood has brought Cauldron cakes. She sweetly smiles and congratulates me, 'Oh my lovely Monette! You've grown, so much. I heard the wonderful news that you have received your letter. I brought you Cauldron cakes to celebrate!'

Mrs. Briarwood is the owner of "Briarwood Eatery". I often go there when I am out in the village. I receive it with utmost gratefulness. 'Thank you so much. I love your cakes.' She smiled and apparated, I suppose, back to her home.

I look up at the clock and saw that it had already been 7 p.m. I had been yapping for so long. I brought the cakes to Dolly and asked her to take them to the kitchen. Then, I went off to my room to create a list of what I wanted. I'd definitely take Bric with me. It's such a shame that I can't take everyone, but I will still be coming back every summer and Christmas.

As my eyes fell on my table, I saw the letter I had received from my aunt. I open the letter.

  Dear Mon,

How are you doing? This year you will be going to Hogwarts. It's a place that all of our family memebers have graduated from. I would like to give you some advice before you go. Have as much fun as you can, do not miss out on fun just because of some silly rules.

Your mother and I both had great time at Hogwarts. I think I had the better one. I, although not truly rebellious, never missed out on fun. I made memories and had experiences that I will remember forever and I'd like you to have a similar experience.

Darren and Valerie both miss you. Your uncle and I will visit you during Christmas. May you have a wonderful time!

  Your aunt,

  Palicia
