Granny Bear

Granny Bear, with a smile so sweet,

Looks like Grandma, voice so neat.

Lures kids home with treats so grand,

Next thing you know, they're in her hand.

Clever kids run, they make it away,

Foolish ones freeze, become her prey.

Before they know it, they’re all gone,

Granny Bear grins, her game goes on.

One day, two sisters living deep in the mountains set out for their grandmother’s house. On the way, they unexpectedly ran into Granny Bear.

Granny Bear blocked their path and asked, “Little ones, where are you going?”

The older sister replied, “We’re going to Grandma’s house.”

Granny Bear grinned and said, “But I am your grandma!”

The older sister frowned. “But you don’t look like our grandma…”

Granny Bear said nothing and insisted on taking the sisters to her home. The older sister, sensing something was off, realized this must be Granny Bear. She wanted to run, but she knew her younger sister wouldn’t be fast enough to escape. She had to wait for the right moment to flee together.

So, the sisters followed Granny Bear deep into the forest and arrived at her home.

That night, as they sat around the fire, Granny Bear smiled and said, “Whoever can jump over the firepit will sleep near my head and get a feast. The one who can’t will sleep by my feet and smell my stinky toes.”

The older sister pretended she couldn’t jump, but the younger sister, eager for food, leaped right over.

Late at night, the older sister woke up. She felt something damp near her feet and asked, “Grandma, why is it wet over there?”

Granny Bear chuckled. “Your sister ate too much and wet the bed.”

A little later, the older sister heard a crunching sound.

“Grandma, what are you eating?” she asked.

“Just some dried radish,” Granny Bear replied.

  “Give me some!”

  “No, no!”

  “Just a little!”

  “No, no!”

“Just a little!” The older sister kept pestering her.

Finally, Granny Bear sighed in annoyance and tossed something over. The older sister reached out and touched it—only to realize it was a severed finger! Her legs went weak with terror. She had to escape.

“Grandma, I need to use the toilet.”

“There’s a ghost in the toilet. You can’t go.”

  “Then I’ll go outside.”

“There are spirits outside. You can’t go.”

  “Then I’ll go upstairs.”

Granny Bear thought, “She’ll have to come down eventually,” and waved her off. “Fine, fine, go ahead.”

But the older sister never came back down—she was searching for a rope to escape.

Granny Bear lit a lamp and went to check, but as soon as she did, the sister blew it out. She lit it again—blown out once more. After a few tries, Granny Bear grumbled, “Sweetie, come downstairs. It’s dark up there.”

The sister didn’t answer. Instead, she climbed out the window and jumped, running as fast as she could.

She ran until she was exhausted and finally climbed up an old willow tree beside a well to hide. Sleep was creeping over her when she suddenly opened her eyes—Granny Bear was standing beneath the tree, staring at her!

Before Granny Bear could speak, the sister shouted, “Grandma, I can’t get down! Go find a hunter to help me!”

Granny Bear grinned and said nothing, then turned and walked away.

Not long after, she ran into a hunter. “Kind sir, my dear granddaughter is stuck in a tree. Can you help her down?”

Seeing an old woman in distress, the hunter nodded. “Of course! Where is she?”

Granny Bear led him to the tree.

As soon as the older sister saw the hunter, she cried, “Hunter, shoot! That’s Granny Bear! She’s trying to eat me!”

The hunter quickly raised his gun and fired. Granny Bear collapsed to the ground.

Cautiously, the hunter approached and found her lifeless. He then helped the older sister down.

That night, tired from their ordeal, the two of them sat by the fire in Granny Bear’s house. The sister told the hunter everything that had happened. He listened and promised to take her home the next day.

They fell silent, shadows flickering in the dim firelight.

  The fire burned out.

The room was dark and quiet.

Only the sound of crunch, crunch, crunch remained.
