“Iris… Iris! You stupid nerd Iris wake u-” The girl in her bed woke up abruptly hitting her head against her sister’s in all the confusion leaving a bump on both of their bright sun kissed foreheads now turning red. “OW! God, why are you waking me up on a Saturday morning? What's your problem.” Iris said, throwing a dark purple pillow at her sister in anger and annoyance. She didn’t even have time to process what was going on around her or the dream that she had, due to all the confusion going on.
”You know how much I hate the morning’s.” Grabbing her glasses off the nightstand next to the bed, almost knocking over the purple lava lamp in the process, so she can have a better look of what was going on.
Iris was looking over at her sister, who was reeling in pain next to the fire escape window where there was a stuffy of Batman there. She was wearing a white T-shirt and slim fit blue jeans that worked well with her slim thick but short body shape which was the opposite of her sister's slender frame. Her sister grabbed the stuffed Batman doll and threw it back at her sister, hitting her in the face.
“God, you hammer headed dork, I was waking you up because your boyfriend and Valerie are here to pick you up.” With an annoyed look on her face her sister got up and headed towards the door, leaving the room while closing the door behind her.
“He’s not my boyfriend!” Iris called out, and her sister replied back with, “I don’t care!”.
The girl rolled her mismatched colored eyes, one as blue as the sky and the other shining scarlet red. Her parents named her Iris because Violet was the name of my mother’s ex girlfriend. She began going through her items to get ready for the day, she was lucky to have a bathroom in her room. ‘One of the perks of being the oldest,’ she thought to herself walking into the shower after closing the bathroom door.
Knock Knock Knock! “We got tired of waiting by the door for you, how much longer are you gonna take Ms. Molasses.” A sweet sounding feminine voice came through the bedroom door.
“Just give me 15 mins,” Iris called out from the bathroom.
“God, by the time you get out it’ll be too dark to go.” A male British accent scoffed in annoyance from the outside of the bedroom.
“Fine, come in already and just wait in the bedroom while I finish getting ready.” Iris echoed from the shower. Once she said that, the door swung open and a beautiful earthy skin toned girl walked into the room dressed in a rather blerd like style with a camera around her neck along with her signature frizzy afro. She was rather tall for her age, she was almost as tall as the boy that walked in behind her.
The boy however, paled in comparison literally with his skin tone and his hair being short and blonde. He was bulky but fit in build, he could easily be mistaken for a jock at first glance. When they came in Valerie sat on the bed and the other friend took a seat at the pokemon themed bean bag chair, it was a giant pink animal thing called jigglypuff.
“So where are we going anyway and why are you rushing me to go?” Iris called out from the bathroom.
“If we tell you, you wouldn’t get in the car with us, and if we lied you’d hate us.” The guy in the bean bag chair said whilst scrolling on his phone, as Valerie rolled her eyes and threw a pillow at him that was on the bed. It knocked the phone straight out of his hands and the pillow smacked into his face. He then proceeded to throw the pillow back, and Valerie let out a girlish shriek and tried to protect her camera.

“Kael!” The photographer yelled.
“Hey, play nice, don’t make me come out there” Iris called out from the shower with her motherly sounding voice, though there wasn’t much she could do anyway. “He almost messed up my camera, these things are expensive! And I've been working on it since I was nine and it would cost way too much to repair.” Valerie said and stuck her tongue out at him acting like a child, and he decided to do the same. “Besides he makes it sounds like we're gonna kidnap you, which we kinda are since you don’t know where you’re going, hey, at least it’s not against your will.” She said as if that was the silver lining of all of it.
"Where are we going again?!" Iris asked even more confused than before wondering how much trouble she might get in.
"Don't worry about it, we'll be back before your curfew at one. Now hurry and shower. We don't have all day, we're losing a lot of light." Which was true, it being fall which is so close to winter meant that the sun was only out for very few hours of the day.
A few moments later, Iris finally came out of the bathroom now dressed and ready to leave. The others in the room sighed, as if to say finally. “Alright guys kidnap me away from home and into neverland.” She said facetiously with a smile, stretching her arms out and Valerie took them leading her to the door.
Iris laughed, letting herself be pulled. “You guys will have to decide which is Tinkerbell and which is Peter Pan.”
“You’re definitely my Tinkerbell, '' Valerie said to Kael as he simply rolled his eyes and chuckled at the comment and saying. “Yeah, yeah whatever you say, just try not to lead us into any more trouble with this adventure.”
As she was led out of her bedroom door into a rather decorated hallway in her apartment that had a plethora of korean decorations on the walls. Some of them are paintings with korean writing on them, one of which says Peace. There was even a small decorative dresser table that had a statue of Buddha meditating on it next to pictures of young Iris and her sister. They kept walking down the hallway passin-
“Iris!” Nearly passing her father’s study, as he called her over she let out a disgruntled sigh and backtracked towards the doorway. When she peered into the room there were multiple bookcases everywhere along the wall. There were several abstract pieces of art as well as two couches parallel to each other with a small coffee table inbetween. Her father was at the very back of the room sitting at his desk working on his laptop. “Iris,” her father said calmly, she swore that every time she walked into this room, it felt like she was at a business meeting being scolded by her peers. “Where are you and your friends going?” He asked with a calm yet stern tone of voice and when he said friends he shot a glare at Kael and Valerie, mostly Valerie.
Kael and Iris looked the other way, not sure what to say to appease him. The presence in the room was strong enough to make even a lion cower in fear from it. And from the looks of it, it seemed like he wasn’t in the best of moods.
“We’re going to-” Valerie began but quickly stopped because the man behind the desk shot another stone cold glare that sent chills down her spine that shook her to her core. She basically teleported behind Kael, using him as a shield. It was as if looking down the barrel of a gun when she tried to talk to him. “Excuse me, Ms. Stewart, but I would like my daughter to answer that question.”
“Yes appa,”she began using the Korean word for dad to hopefully gain some brownie points, “Valerie and Kael said that they had a surprise for me, and they were just taking me to go see it.” She was sure to be careful with her words; she knew that if she said the wrong thing she’d probably end up in trouble plus it wasn’t as if she was lying, she was just being a bit vague.
Her father stared deep into her eyes to try to see if she was being honest, before letting out a sigh. He put two fingers on the bridge of his nose as if he was annoyed. Then signaled towards her friends to answer with his hand. “Valerie” he said without looking up; Valerie stepped forward from behind Kael where she was half hiding from Iris’s father.
“Well Mr. Bimil, we’re just going to the mall, there’s a new store opening and I wanted to show I-” He quickly raised his hand to stop her because he knew that if he let her keep going she would go on forever about a topic he didn’t really care for whatsoever. With another sigh he looked towards Kael. “Young man please do me a favor and make sure she doesn’t get into too much trouble, and that she’s back before 12:30 a.m.”
“Of course, I’ll make sure nothing happens, I promise.” he replied and her father motioned for them to leave. They did so hastily, making their way downstairs and out of the duplex apartment before he could change his mind.
And once out the front door “I swear talking to him is almost as bad as being questioned by Batman, I don't know how you dealt with that for 20 years.” the Brit sighed in relief to be out of the situation. Iris simply shrugged saying “He’s not all that bad, especially since I'm definitely Robin.” She teased. “Plus he likes you, he thinks of you as the responsible son he’s never had.”
