Chapter Eighty-Seven

  Volume 1 Chapter 87

Jerry said with emotion: "It seems that in terms of basic medical values, Chinese and Western medicine have completely opposing attitudes. In our eyes, the human body is a 'child' who often makes low-level mistakes, stupid and ignorant, needing 'wise and skilled' doctors to help and solve various physical errors, using various drugs and medical means to help the weak-minded human body 'return to normal'. He wanted to refute Fang Mennan's words, but the facts were before his eyes and he had no way to argue.

Fang Mo nodded. It's hard to change a person's decades-old way of thinking, and it's not easy for Jerry to say these words in such a short time.

She continued with a laugh: "Following this line of thinking in Western medicine will lead to extremely absurd behavior; for example, Western medicine often uses 'organ removal' as a way to 'prevent disease', such as removing the appendix to prevent appendicitis; removing the uterus to prevent uterine cancer; and removing breasts to prevent breast cancer. In my opinion, this is simply suicidal and unthinkable. And yet, openly challenging the natural life wisdom with crazy actions is considered 'basic knowledge' and 'basic treatment methods' in Western medicine, and people somehow find it 'acceptable'."

Although in ancient times there was a body hair, received from parents, do not dare to destroy, now people sneer at it with nose, in some sense can't say wrong, let alone the organs inside the body.

In traditional Chinese medicine, there are some "incurable diseases" that doctors will refuse to treat after examination. Western medicine likes to pretend to be God, wanting to cure all diseases, but in reality, many cannot be cured. However, whether or not the patient is cured, the money is still earned. Moreover, the more terminal and incurable the disease, the more it becomes a feast and opportunity for western doctors to make a fortune. In comparison, traditional Chinese medicine's "incurability" seems uncaring, but may actually be the most compassionate approach, as the person cannot be saved anyway.

Traditional Chinese medicine is about not ruining families or causing financial devastation, whereas western medicine often results in both. This is the manifestation of traditional Chinese doctors having a conscience; whereas the current western medical system often engages in practices that are clearly ineffective, yet still pretend to be "saving lives", leaving many families financially devastated. From a karmic perspective, these doctors will have a very tragic fate in the future.

These diseases that occur after treatment are simply attributed to "complications" by Western medicine. Let the patient think they're unlucky, but in fact these diseases aren't caused by the disease itself, sometimes they're caused by the Western medical treatment method, or new diseases created by Western medicine's drugs. If the patient is a bit clever and demands compensation from Western medicine based on this, the Western medical system will quickly go bankrupt.

According to relevant records: "In 1976, a doctors' strike in Bucaramanga, Colombia lasted for 52 days. The local death rate dropped by 35%, which was called an 'unusual side effect'. In the same year, when doctors in Los Angeles went on strike to protest against the increase in medical accident insurance premiums, the city's patient mortality rate dropped by 18%. A report by Dr. Milton Roemer, a professor of health policy at the University of California, after investigating 17 hospitals in the city, showed that during the strike period, each hospital reduced an average of 60% of surgical operations."

Jerry quipped, "Doctors go on strike, death rates decline - the dark humor of modern medicine. Is it coincidence or inevitability? In fact, as early as the 1970s, the World Health Organization pointed out that among global deaths, one-third were not due to illness, but due to irrational use of drugs; drug-induced diseases caused by improper medication have already led to a tenfold increase in deaths compared to those taken by infectious diseases.

Aisha frowned and said, "Healthcare costs are too high relative to people's income in any country, especially for those with chronic illnesses. Serious illness can deplete a person's savings and lower the standard of living for most families. In the US, data shows that half of all bankruptcies each year are caused by medical expenses. This is indeed a difficult problem."

This is a global problem that cannot be solved overnight. Fang Mernan changed the subject and said, "Now environmental awareness is becoming more and more important, and it has been recognized that the earth's ecosystem is a harmonious whole. The importance of biodiversity has been recognized, and 'keeping nature' is considered the best means. Don't you agree that indiscriminate felling of forests should not be allowed?"

Jerry nodded and Eresa said: "Right. Now environmental awareness is being strengthened."

"Why do doctors like to randomly cut off body parts? Is the human body not a whole? Doesn't it have diversity? In the human body, artificially distinguishing between 'important organs' and 'unimportant organs' is a foolish and outdated medical idea. The organs of the human body cannot be easily removed, nor can they be 'replaced'. Once you use heart bypass surgery or even replace the heart, as well as use kidney dialysis to 'replace kidney function', the consequences brought by this 'high-tech medical technology' may keep people's lives going, but basically turn them into useless objects. From the day these surgeries are done, people become accessories to machines and must rely on machines for life. Can we still talk about 'human dignity and value' and 'quality of life'?"

He took a sip of tea, fortunately it was his own tea leaves, the taste was not good, but still drinkable. He put down the cup and continued: "Traditional Chinese medicine starts from philosophical point, that is to say, human body is great, every part is perfect. If there are problems in the human body, it's not the mistake of the human body itself, but our own ignorance, we made serious mistakes and need to correct them. This is the silent reminder from our body.

It is also very likely that some diseases of the human body are a means of self-healing. What doctors can do is to understand the reasons behind these diseases and solve these reasons, helping the body to solve problems."

Jerry also took a sip of tea, "It's really fragrant, unlike the bitter one I've had before." He looked up at Fang Mo Nan and asked, "What kind of tea is this?"

"I brought some from my hometown, I'll give you some later," said Fang Mo'nan.

"Wait, and get some for Thomas too, you know he doesn't drink coffee now, so he's found a substitute in tea!" Jerry remembered to say.

  Fang Mo nodded silently.

Jerry took another sip, put down his teacup and said: "Nan Nan gave so many examples. If we use traditional Chinese medicine theory to describe it, how would you say it?" He really wanted to know this. Traditional Chinese medicine seemed mysterious and couldn't be described with concrete language or science.

Fang Mo Nan smiled and said: "In Chinese medicine, this is called 'Wei Qiang Ying Ruo'!"

Jerry frowned, somewhat puzzled, "This is a professional term in traditional Chinese medicine."

"Ying and Wei are the two major systems of the human body in traditional Chinese medicine. They were first introduced in the classic medical text "Huangdi Neijing". Ying refers to the nutritional metabolic system, while Wei refers to the defensive immune system.

Fang Mennan further explained: "Wei belongs to Yang, Ying belongs to Yin, and the two major systems coordinate with each other and interact with each other. This allows the human body to be in a dynamic state of stability. However, when the defensive immune system is activated, the nutritional metabolic system will continuously produce energy to help the defensive system fight off external pathogens."

Jerry was extremely surprised, raising an eyebrow. The metabolic and immune systems, in his view, were discoveries of Western medicine. Unexpectedly, traditional Chinese medicine had recognized these two major systems thousands of years ago, and had made in-depth studies on the cooperative mechanisms between Ying and Wei.

"What dominates the camp and defense is called 'shen', while what drives the work of the camp and defense is called 'qi'. When the camp and defense are not in harmony, or when the king is strong and the camp is weak, we need to look for reasons from these aspects." Fang Mornan said.

Jerry nodded uncontrollably. Today's gains were too great for him, and for a moment he felt that his brain was not enough, but also felt that his brain was very hungry, desperately wanting to absorb things.

Finally, Jerry sighed and said: "The human body is truly wonderful!" He originally wanted to say that traditional Chinese medicine was truly magical.

He nodded and said, "What you said is right, human beings are the greatest living things on this earth; and the human body is the most perfect thing on this earth."

Aisha was confused, but she understood this sentence and said: "What does that mean?"

Fang Mo Nan smiled, it seems that these two people are still addicted to asking questions today, they want to ask everything thoroughly. Fortunately, Xiao Yi is on holiday at home taking care of the children. Fang Mo Nan thought for a moment, organized his language and said: "I'll use words you can understand, let me explain simply!"

Aisha hastily nodded, some of what she had just heard was unclear to her, and she quickly said: "That's best, Doctor Fang please go on!"

"The earliest life forms that appeared on Earth were single-celled structures. Although they only had one cell, they could still complete nutrition, respiration, excretion, movement and reproduction. It was an independent living organism, wasn't it?" Fang Mengnan asked.

Alicia nodded directly, this is a consensus in the scientific community, without a doubt.

"After such a long period of evolution, new life emerged on Earth, which was no longer single-celled organisms, but double-celled."

Fang Mo Nan stood up and stretched, then sat back down and said: "Have you ever thought about it? To be able to merge two independent lives with complete functions into one, so that they no longer reject or oppose each other, but instead divide labor and cooperate with each other. This requires a powerful force to accomplish. It's something that life can only achieve after going through a long period of time."

Jerry and Elara fell into deep thought. The leap from single-celled to multi-celled organisms was one of the greatest things that had ever happened on this earth.

"When two cells come together, they may only need to divide labor, but when three or more cells gather together, how can these cells know that they are one and yet differentiate and divide labor? This requires something of a higher level to emerge. Thus, the brain appeared, and the vertebral skeleton was born. The life form began to differentiate into many functional organs and bodies, and numerous species of organisms emerged on Earth."

"So many years have passed, and no matter how many cruel things the earth has experienced, life has not been destroyed. Not only has it not been destroyed, but it has also given birth to human beings, the greatest and most perfect living being so far." Fang Mo Nan looked at them and asked: "What do you think about this?"

Jerry and he fell silent. Such a simple fact, now that she mentioned it, made her think a lot, but for the time being, she couldn't express it.

"Long before humans appeared, viruses had existed on Earth for tens of billions of years. Humans, the latecomers, have not failed in their war with these 'native' viruses, but have instead emerged victorious, relying on the body's defense system. In order to defeat viruses, humans have even incorporated viral genes into their own genome to improve and perfect their defensive systems."
