Chapter 66: Shocking Fish, Frightening Soul (Part 1)

Mozi and Feixia entered the cabin, and a strong gust of wind blew in from behind them.

Lao Guan emerged from under the quilt, pushing aside the still sleepy Stinky Fish with one hand and asked, "Are we almost there?"

"There's another shift. Mozi has finished two shifts, now it's Lao Guan and the others' turn. I originally wanted to let Shuishou come in and rest for a while, but he refused. After you all leave, I'll let him come and rest instead. Being able to sleep is better than nothing."

"Alright." Old Guan responded, pulling up the stinky fish that was still tangled around his waistband and left.

Fat shrimp didn't say a word, or it can be said that he was so tired that he couldn't speak, took off his outer clothes, drilled into the smelly fish's still warm quilt, fell asleep as soon as he lay down, and started snoring in less than a minute.

She envies his straightforwardness, drinking and eating with abandon, walking briskly and scolding loudly. However, no matter how hard she tries to pretend, it's still just an act, some habits are hard to shake off as a woman.

The boat was swaying violently, and the cabin was filled with the smell of sweat from the seven or eight men lying horizontally. The sleeping bag specially made for her by Green Chrysanthemum had been squeezed into a corner at some point. She let out a sigh, took a small sip of water to rinse her mouth, tiptoed around the legs and arms of the men, trying not to look directly at their sloppy sleeping posture, and carefully got into her sleeping bag, which was leaning against the cabin wall. Her body was dirty, and she wondered if she smelled as bad as the men did, with her hair matted and itchy from the river mist. She tried not to think about it. Fortunately, the sleeping bag still had a sunny scent and residual floral fragrance, so she pressed her nose against the soft cotton and breathed slowly, feeling drowsy.

However, she felt that she hadn't slept for long, a vibration, and she immediately opened her eyes. The oil lamp in the cabin still had a faint light. In sight, a pair of dark night-like deep eyes sparkled.

"Whoa—" The somewhat modern tone of voice brought her back to reality, and she opened her mouth like a commoner from this era, "Bai, what's with the big eyes? Trying to scare someone to death?"

"Whoever has a guilty conscience will be frightened." Bai Yu's arm was propped against her elbow, and her expression didn't have the slightest hint of sleepiness.

This person is either an early riser or a light sleeper. Mozi thought of this and smiled, "The little demon in my heart, aren't you seeing it clearly? However, I said it earlier, since we're on the same boat, we're all one life, don't just think wildly by yourself."

  White feathers hummed.

"Is your name true or false? I don't care either way?" Bai Yu, Bai Yu, this name always felt out of sync with him.

"It's better than you calling Erlang Erlang. When unfamiliar people call out so intimately, I feel uncomfortable all over." Bai Yu neither denied nor acknowledged Mozi's words.

Mei Zi shrugged in the quilt, "It's better than being called Erlang Shen."

"Mo Ge!" The cabin door suddenly opened, Lao Guan's voice was extremely low, but urgent, "There's a situation."

As soon as he said that, the six people on Bai Yu's side all moved, as if they had been pretending to be asleep from the beginning. They moved like rabbits and were quiet like a maiden. Only their shadows swayed, without making any sound.

Only Cen Er was still sleeping soundly.

"White Feather!" Mu Zi remained calm on the surface, but was actually stabilizing her inner self. "Tell the person who called you to turn off the lights and stay in the cabin. Without my permission, don't go out." She said this because she couldn't control his people.

Bai Yu looked at her deeply and then ordered, "Listen to him."

Zhang An Shi Lei and three others immediately stayed put on the spot.

Mei Zi walked out with her hands behind her back. Hearing someone behind her, she turned around and saw Bai Yu following her. She raised an eyebrow, "You..."

"I won't entrust them and my own life to strangers, especially smugglers." Bai Yu made it clear that she was afraid of being deceived.

"Then follow me, because I'm only responsible for the people I bring." Mu Zi's words were no less sharp than his, anyway, once things were done, they would go their separate ways, not seeking a good impression.

Out of the cabin, Mozi found that Yongfu's speed had slowed down to its lowest point.

"Has it run aground?" Looking at the mountain shapes on both sides, she had walked for half a watch after falling asleep. Although they were approaching the Surging Fish Shoal, where hidden reefs increased and the water flow began to become unstable, according to Lao Guan's skills, they shouldn't have run aground.

"It's not a reef." Old Guan shook his head and pointed forward with one hand. "There is a boat ahead."

"Is there a boat?" Mei Zi was somewhat surprised to hear this. She looked carefully and indeed, there was a boat, its lights blurry as it cut through the water.

The terrifying legend about Jing Yu Tan is almost known to everyone in the Lu Zhou Yun Zhou area, but the route of this private boat was discovered by Mo Zi when he read an ancient book decades ago. When he took his own boat through it, he found that from Luo Zi Jiang Jing Yu Tan intersection to Lu Hua Dang, there were no signs of human activity or boats, only white bones scattered all over the ground, but no fresh blood or rotting flesh. In other words, this waterway has been deserted for decades, and now only the Yongfu boat is traveling on it.

But at this moment, there was actually a ship in front. And looking at the outline of the ship with its burning lights, it was at least twice as big as the Yongfu. If it was twice as big...

  Mò zǐ zhèng xiǎng zhe.

"Is it a pirate ship from the Zhou Dynasty?" Everyone knew that these days the naval forces were patrolling the river frequently, Lao Guan guessed.

"The warship can't even enter the narrow strait ahead. But even if it's not a warship, it's probably an official dispatch. Look at how it doesn't hide its lights and fires, so openly and flagrantly - if it were a merchant ship, how could it be so brazen?" Mozi rubbed her tightly furrowed brow, racking her brains.

"What are we going to do?" The stinky fish swam up and asked, "We can't just turn back here, can we?"

It's out of the question, Qiu San Niang won't be able to explain it.

Mozi was hesitating, when she suddenly heard the faint sound of people coming from that boat, forcing her to make a quick decision. "Stinky fish, fat shrimp, you two brothers take down all the sails for me. Old Guan, tell Shuishou to change direction." Looking around, she quickly found a nearby black cliff wall below, "Stop the boat under that cliff wall and temporarily hide using the tree vines and mountain shadows. For now, we can only wait and see."

"What can we do?" Just as he said before, Shiraha didn't mind going through hardships together.

"When the boat stops, you help pull the vines to hide the boat. Also, since it's a hiding place, don't make any movements that might expose us." Mozi also didn't bother with courtesy.

Bai Yu looked at her and jumped onto the left wing of the boat, holding a pole that was several times taller than her with both hands, neatly poking it into the water, putting all her strength on the pole, and bending into a shrimp-like shape.

This man is glib and oily, but he does things quite decently. Mozi's impression of him has improved slightly; he strides over, reaches out from behind her with both arms extended, and helps her pole the boat.

Mei Zi suddenly felt a scorching sensation on her back, and was startled to turn around, but her nose bumped into Bai Yu's sturdy chest. She couldn't help but exclaim in a low voice, "Hey, what are you doing?"

"Help you." He said briefly in two words.

It was unclear whether it was due to the strength of the white feather or the change in direction on the part of the water snake, but the Yongfu found its way and slowly sailed towards that dark shadow.

She's a man. He's also a man. Two big men holding bamboo poles together, no problem, no problem. Mozi turned around and muttered to himself, fiercely waving away the red-faced and ear-red wind that was about to sweep in.

The night is dark just right.
