Book 2 Chapter 4

She softly strokes the neck of this baby unicorn. Looking to David for help. She wants to comfort this little one but knows deep down in her soul the mother should not be far. They may have to handle the mother and that would be dangerous for Jess as she is the one whom is handing the baby. Little did they know the little things mother had been killed for her horn, blood, and body parts.

Jess walks slowly back to the site with this little one in tow. They look at one another before looking up to the sky. Twas almost time to wake the others. They nodded to each other before waking the others. The group was slow to wake however once they saw the baby unicorn they truly woke up fully. They were shocked at the sight before them.

Ram looks to Zane before speaking.``We should search for the mother before moving on. The dragons will understand us taking longer than they thought we would for this matter. They would not like one so young not to have their mother if we can help.” He nods and walks slowly to Jess. “He and I shall sniff the babe once we have shifted and see if we may find the mother. If we are not back by sun up tomorrow send Annoce on horseback. I will leave a clear trail for him to follow.” She kisses him softly before speaking, “Be safe and come back to us. We shall wait here.” He nods before going to shift.

Ram follows suit. They come back on paws and approach the baby slowly. He thinks this is a game and dances a short way from Jess before looking to her. She shakes her head and beckons him back to her. Realizing this is not a game he walks to her side and leans against her. Ram and Zane then sniff him to get his scent. “The babe was in the bush over yonder.” She points to where he had come out of. Zane nods to her before heading over to where he had come out of. Zane and Ram both yip at the group before following the strong scent trail.

David sighs softly, “I hope this one's mother is doing well and is looking for him or her. We should see if they are old enough to speak or are able to communicate thru thought.” Jess looks at David as if he has lost his mind. Sunny chuckles seeing Jess’s face. “No, Jess he has not lost his mind. At a young age unicorns can not speak however they can send pictures to the mind of the one they choose to be close to. If their mother is not with them.”

Jess looks a little shocked hearing this but nods to Sunny. “Are you able to do this little one? If so could you either talk or send me a picture of what your name may be?” He chuffs softly at her before sending her a picture of a silver colored river. She blinks a few times. “Is your name Silver River? Or Silver? River?” she asks not sure of herself at this moment. He taps his hoof once and David chuckles knowing the first name is this little one.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Thank you Sliver River for allowing us to know your name. From the sound of your name you are a male. We will do what we can to bring you back to your mother. If not you may travel with us until we find a place you wish to stay. Does this sound agreeable to you?” David asks him. Silver River nods back before sending Jess a memory of being chased by hunters. They tried to take him, however his mother freed him before teleporting him away. Jess sighs softly before speaking to the others. “He was hunted by humans whom I would say wanted him for what he is. To try and get his mother.”

David nods and Sunny shakes her head to clear the tears that try and fall. Jess pets him softly before sitting down next to him. “We shall take the day to relax little one. Are you in need of anything?” Silver River shakes his head to her question before laying next to her and laying his head on her lap. The rest of the day passes quickly for them.

After sunset Zane and Ram return with their heads down and their tails dragging. They had found what was left of the mothers body and the scene of where she fought. There were bodies of hunters that had died by her hoof. But in the end there had been too many for her to handle on her own. Though she saved her son's life by giving her own. Our group of adventurers would mourn her loss for now they had a little one to help.

Jess saw them coming back before the others. Seeing how they carried themselves she knew. She let out a subvocal whimper of sorrow. She had held out hope the mother had lived. She waited for Zane to come to her. He shifted right next to her and pulled her softly in his arms. Mindlinking her “The mother fought so hard my love. She killed what looked to be 30 hunters. However, there were too many for her.” She nods softly. “We will have to take him with us until we can find a safe place for him to grow.”

They headed for their tent. The rest of our group see them and can tell without a word said. Silver River had taken to one of the horses and was curled up in the pen sleeping. David looks to where he is and sighs before muttering to himself, “We did warn him this was a possibility. I pray he takes this news better than I think he shall.” They take turns throughout the night watching for trouble.

At dawn those whom were sleeping wake to the sounds of the young unicorn trying to get the older horses to play a bit. They chuckle softly watching him for a few moments before starting their day. Once they are fed Jess walks to him before bending and calling him to her. With a heavy heart she informs him of what the others had found. He cries out in sorrow. His hope was crushed with those words. His mother had seemed to him unstoppable.

She hugs him as he cries. He lays his head on her shoulder. The others break down the camp as this goes on. Not because they do not care but so Jess can comfort him. Jess had not noticed the bubble around her as of yet. Once he was finished she pets him and dries his tears from his face. “Now Silver River we must move on. That is not to say we shall leave you here. Unless that is your wish. We would love for you to come with us. Though I am unsure of how you and dragons get along to be honest.”

His ears perked forward at the mention of dragons. His mother had told him if something were to happen to her he was to find a way to the dragon king for he would protect him. This was a chance to go there with someone whom could ensure his safe travels. He nodded to her and showed her a picture of him following her.
