Chapter 5 Spades

  Spade Command building room 2

Two men wearing black and grey exo-suited armor covered in regalia and runes stand talking to each other. "The final casualty report from the Jack's event is seven wounded and twenty seven are seeking damages regarding mental scarring. We've reminded them that the waiver specifically mentioned the possibility of mental trauma and scarring but they are insisting that this is beyond the scope."

The exo-suited man on left bearing seven spades on his armor's regalia sighed disappointingly leaning against the wall. "What was the response from the Jacks?"

The Man on the right bearing four spades simply shook his head. "They simply state that this was all covered in the waiver and that any damages accrued by customers should be handled by themselves and complaints submitted to the Ministry of Mimicry."

Seven looked up at the ceiling and sighed deeply once again. "If only this was so simple, a Mythos class entity nearly entered into our reality. No waiver even with the backing of a Joker would be able to mitigate the damages from something like that. We're likely going to have to settle with the complainants and have them sign a non-disclosure.

Four glanced at his forearm PDA and looked back up. "The Jacks have just announced the continuation of the event starting tomorrow. They've stated that what happened today was a fluke and instead should be a demonstration of how incredible their safety standards are that no one died."

Seven idly tapped on the table in thought ringing out with his armored gloves. "That's a smart plan on their part and helps downplay any of the offensive suits against them. It's harder to demand compensation when the event continues and you're the only ones complaining out of hundreds attending. However, if the event has more casualties even minor ones it makes the case more iron clad for the complainants.

Four nodded "A double edged sword? Maybe they truly are being backed by a Joker?"

"If they were being backed by a Joker they wouldn't be so desperate for their event to succeed. No this speaks of someone playing with knives. Red Jack seems most likely she's never feared anything even when fighting in the Epsilon War. I'd sooner fight a Joker then her anyway, at least I would get a clean death from a Joker."

Four looks at Seven confusedly. "If she's so vicious how did she become a Jack?" Seven sighs and stretches against the wall. "Politics of course, she was essential in pulling off key victories leading to multiple missions being successful. Don't get it twisted she's a great fighter but I've heard they keep her on a tight leash. Her backing is nothing to snuff at either."

"Backing sir? I thought she was just a splitter?" Seven shakes his head gently. "It's not surprising that you don't know, they pulled alot of her records when she started doing heroics. She's backed by a Ignis and from what I've heard people that dig too deep get sent to the front lines."

"What?! How? I thought the Ignis clan didn't do any political backing any more?"

Seven sighed and looked around the room and double checked the door's lock was engaged. "Officially? They don't, unofficially I've heard they've been moving things around once again. This doesn't leave this room but the amount of funds being directed to old war projects is concerning."

A ping sounds and both Spades look down at their PDA's. "Murder in the drink district, lets go"
