‘What the heck are these apes doing!?’
Merlin and Vera watched as Matthew and Trygve jumped from witch to witch, knocking them out of the mist that allowed them to fly.
‘I guess these are the kids Almena told me about.’ Vera watched the two kids jump back and forth, but quickly focused on Matthew’s strange way of fighting. At first glance, Matthew looked like a magic warrior, one who used magic to strengthen their body, but Matthew was also using natural magic, like a wizard, to propel himself into the air and knock down his wizards.
‘Can he fight using both magics consecutively at such a young age?’
It wasn’t unusual for the most experienced magic warriors to use certain basic spells, but it was absolutely rare for a child to be able to do so. When Vera thought she couldn't be more impressed, she watched as Matthew performed two consecutive spells and combined them perfectly.
Matthew jumped from a warlock to a group in front of him, quickly using his right hand, he performed a simple fire spell that was enhanced with a basic wind spell, performed with his left hand.
'He lacks power and spells, but he made up for that in an ingenious way by combining it with another basic spell... simply ingenious and talented' not everyone could understand the spells they used so well as to be able to combine them with each other.
Merlin saw Vera's curiosity in Matthew and with a triumphant smile he said to her 'you better stay away from that child, Vera. You don't want to be chased to death by his father, Gerald'
'Gerald? ‘Does that refer to Gerald Goldeneagle, the eleventh king of chaos who was never born?’ Vera now had no doubt as to why Matthew was so talented, he was the son of the only man who could go against Damnatus’ magic and break the cycle of the kings of chaos, ending a war that lasted more than a hundred years.
She herself had witnessed the terrifying power of Orwena Goldfire, the tenth queen of chaos, a power so terrifying that it made her want to become one of Damnatus’ most faithful followers, when she found out about Orwena’s defeat at the hands of Gerald she couldn’t even imagine what kind of beast that guy was. And now, in front of her was the son of that man, showing a talent as beastly as his father’s.
“The perfect son…” Vera whispered with great greed reflected in her eyes.
“Crazy witch!” Merlin whispered, seeing Vera’s expression, not knowing what she was really up to.
The guild members quickly joined the front lines of the battle, ordering the students to take shelter in the school and protect the new students. Irene appeared right next to the guild members, asking them for some time.
“Wait, don’t attack yet! Two students are among the witches.”
Osvald, the guild master, looked at the witches, noticing a conflict between their lines and two children jumping around the witches, knocking them down. Irene raised her hand, pointing at Matthew and Trygve, and with a strong tug the two were pulled towards Irene.
“AHHH, THEY’RE ATTACKING US AGAIN!” Tryg screamed as he felt himself being pulled out of nowhere.
Matthew also looked worried until he reached Irene, who was looking at them angrily.
“It was all Merlin's idea!” Tryg lied quickly, he didn't want to be punished
“You two go quickly to school, we can't leave you out here when the real fight starts” Osvald ordered sternly, they wouldn't be able to take care of Matthew and Trygve when Fiegnis and Dhigg start using all their power.
“But we can…”
“It's not up for discussion” Osvald stomped his foot and the two were launched at high speed towards the entrance of the school, the doors opened quickly letting Matthew and Trygve in and then closed immediately.
Merlin noticed that all the students were already inside the school and with a twist of his staff he threw a large white light into the sky. Fiegnis saw the light, this was his signal to use all his strength.
Fiegnis swung his head, hitting Dhigg's head, generating a huge wave of impact, so big that it ended up dispersing the clouds. Fiegnis didn't stop there and continued hitting Dhigg with his claws, who could only limit himself to covering himself with his wings.
'I can't face Fiegnis alone, he's too strong for me' Dhigg thought trying to find a plan to escape.
At the first opportunity, Dhigg opened his wings leaving a space between them. Dhigg didn't delay and began to accumulate a ball of lightning in his snout, just as Fiegnis began to accumulate a ball of fire. Just a few seconds later the balls were fired, but they acted differently, Fiegnis' fireball became a large flame that spread to cover the entire sky, while Dhigg's ball of lightning spread throughout his own body, teleporting him away from the battle.

‘That damn lizard ran away!’ Vera thought angrily
“Your main attack force has retreated, and your followers are slowly falling. Don’t you know when to give up?” Merlin asked her the same question that Vera had asked him.
Vera shook her black cloak attracting all the mist spread throughout Salusbreth, not even caring how the wizards fell from the sky. The few wizards who were on the ground understood their mistress’s actions and gathered right under her.
“I will remember this Merlin, the death of my children will not stay like this…” Vera looked discreetly towards the castle, where all the students were watching the fight through the windows. “...One day I will claim what is mine”
Waving her cape furiously, she manifested a horde of red lightning bolts that spread out to reach her followers who were right below her, and with a deafening roar she broke the barrier that Irene had created to prevent her from escaping.
“A direct attack was enough…” Irene analyzed, watching as her barrier crumbled before her eyes
“Vera doesn't carry the title of the strongest witch that ever existed just for show. Her power has put several S-rank guild members in check, even I, in my best moments, have had a tough time against her” Osvald consoled Irene.
Merlin approached slowly, the destruction tonight would take days, if not weeks, for all the students to repair their houses. With a sigh, Merlin hit the ground three times with his staff, he didn't usually use his magic for these things, but this time it was worth it.
Slowly but steadily, the houses began to return to their intact state, as it was before Vera arrived with his followers. Irene watched as the houses slowly rebuilt themselves and let out a long sigh, knowing that she still had a long way to go before she even came close to Merlin's level.
“There was no need Merlin, my guild members could help rebuild everything” Osvald approached Merlin, holding a bloody flag.
“It's fine, you've done more than enough just by attending tonight…”
Osvald shook his head in resignation, Merlin had always been very accommodating, he never asked for more from his allies, even when he clearly needed help. Osvald was about to speak when one of the teachers came running up, it was Berly the combat teacher.
“Merlin, where are Matthew and Trygve!? I swear I could see them for a moment where the witches were flying”
Berly looked worried, as she had tried to get to Matthew and Tryg as soon as she saw them, but she couldn't make her way through the large number of witches there. Merlin looked at her calmly and then pointed towards the school.
“No need to worry, Irene took them out of the battle and they were taken to the school”
“So those are their names, Matthew and Trygve. Very brave kids I have to say” Osvald remembered the two fighting in the air against the witches.
“You have no idea…” Merlin snorted tiredly
Irene approached at that moment, looking questioningly at her master Merlin. “By the way, Mr. Caralsen claims it was your idea master…”
“Huh!? “Nonsense, those two apes did it on their own. They are just as reckless as their grandparents!”
Merlin answered quickly, he still remembered when he met Matthew and Trygve’s grandparents, the two were reckless, wild and stupid, the only thing that comforted Merlin was that they had never met.
At that moment Edward arrived, he had been treating the injured students and helping the school doctor move those who were unconscious.
“How are the students?” Merlin asked, many students had been beaten before his eyes, but he could do nothing because of his fight with Vera.
“Fortunately none of them died, but there are some in very bad conditions, the bastards did not limit themselves to explosive spells and also used torture curses on the students”
“Those assholes, they don't have the balls to face a real teacher” The sir of the mustache appeared among them, he had been in charge of protecting the younger students, thanks to him none of the new ones had suffered any harm.
“Professor, manners!” Irene exclaimed
Osvald stroked his gray beard, from what he had seen Matthew and Trygve were very talented, they would undoubtedly be a good addition to his guild when they were older. Osvald then looked at Berly, a former member of his guild, and asked her what she thought about them.
“The two of them? What can I say… they have a great talent for battle and an even greater determination to overexploit that talent, you saw it yourself sir. They make the most of their abilities and take them to a higher level.”
Osvald nodded in understanding, talented students were not rare at all, he himself had graduated from Salusbreath when he was barely 14, formed a team at 16 and created the Phoenix Guild at 20. Another example was Merlin himself, at 13 he had graduated from the old magic academy and at 20 he ascended to a completely different magic rank, leaving behind his mortality and becoming the first, and to this day the only, to become a benign and not born as one.
Many speculate that Merlin being born a human was a mistake of fate itself and that he should have been born a benign, that is why to fix his mistake, he allowed him to reach such power in his mortal state until he could ascend into a benign.
“If you knew who his parents were then you wouldn't be so surprised, young berly” Merlin stated
“Now that you mention it, I'm a little curious. I only know that trygve is part of the caralse family, they are very good warriors from what I know” Berly said
“Caralsen huh? That's the family of the great beast Themur. I still have memories of the battle from 13 years ago, when Themur and Gerald made their way through that island... now there are only a few rubble left where the island once was” Osvald said remembering that glorious fight, while Berly nodded, she was 17 years old when the fight ended.
“They are your parents…” Merlin revealed to everyone’s surprise “That’s right, you heard right. Trygve is Themur’s oldest son and Matthew is Gerald’s only son”
–Break–
“So I grabbed him by the neck with my left arm and stuck a finger in his ass, -whistle, asshole- I said, -until you whistle the alphabet I’m not going to let you go-” trygve and matthew were sitting in the dining room, while tryg was telling him how to tame a witch “that’s a secret technique my grandfather told me, he told me it was the weakness of every witch”
‘I think that’s everyone’s weakness…’ Matthew thought
They continued talking happily without realizing that the students around them were bright red from holding back, although they had just suffered an attack two days ago and several older students were severely injured, they couldn’t do anything to take away the cheerful vibe that tryg and Matthew transmitted every time they spoke.
“And he whistled?” Matthew asked curiously
“No, the bastard can throw explosions from his hands, but he doesn't even know how to whistle”
“Normal, some people just focus on improving in some aspects, losing sight of the rest”
“Yes, his own arrogance blinded the bastard… In the end I think he escaped with that old Vera”
“Be careful, he might come and try to apply the same technique to you.”
“Don't be ridiculous, Matthew. It only works on witches.”
“Ohhh… if you wanted to defeat a vampire? What technique would you use?” Matthew asked. Tryg's techniques may have been strange, but they had worked until today. After all, Almena hadn't cast a spell on them and the witcher couldn't free himself from his grip.
“Simple, just stick a wooden stake in his…”
“Matthew, Trygve. Can you come in for a moment?”
Professor Beryl interrupts them, calling out to them from the dining room door. Matthew and Tryg immediately stand up and go to the teacher, who leads them out of the dining room.
“What's our business, Professor?”
Matthew was the one who asked. He hadn't finished eating yet and was very hungry. He understood that he had to listen to the teacher, but there were priorities.
“Well, I'll be direct with you. Your parents taught you everything that I'm in charge of teaching in this school. In other words, I have nothing more to teach you.”
