Chapter 5: Searching for Hua Hua

Tonight before entering the night, Zhao Zhu gave nearly thirty coffins of different ages in the charity house three incense sticks each and knocked his head to worship. It seemed that because Zhao Zhus attitude was in place and the incense was also in place, this evening was unexpectedly quiet. Zhao Zhu guarded the first half of the night, Chen Hong guarded the second half of the night, nothing happened all night. Moreover, Zhao Zhu slept on a layer of straw on the ground of the charity house, which was much more comfortable than leaning against the coffin last night.

The next morning, Zhao Zhuo woke up feeling refreshed and spirited. When he walked into the courtyard, Chen Hong was already practicing her martial arts. However, this style of martial arts was a bit unusual, with more emphasis on leg techniques, and her hands seemed to be only assisting. Overall, it didnt look very impressive, but it should be effective. Through his imagination, Zhao Zhuo understood that this must be a specialized technique for dealing with zombies. After all, zombies are different from humans - they have immense strength but stiff limbs, so you cant use ordinary martial arts to fight them, or youll definitely end up dying horribly.

After finishing a set of moves, Chen Hong wiped the sweat from her forehead and saw Zhao Zhu standing behind her. She brushed back her damp hair and said, "The porridge is in the pot, go add some firewood."

"Understood." Zhao Zhuo responded with a single word, while asking: "Were you a Practitioners child in the past?"

"Hehe, I used to just do nail art, my real job was giving people manicures. This skill was exchanged for points coupons, anyway, after you come back alive, youll probably know whats going on."

"It seems like discount coupons are really good things."

Just as Zhao Zhu was walking towards the kitchen, a barefooted village man in his thirties rushed over from outside. His face was filled with an extremely anxious expression as he ran here and shouted:

"Ah Hong, Ah Zhu, my daughter Hua Hua has gone missing on the other side of the deserted tomb. Please help me, lets go find my daughter together, Ill go to other peoples homes to call for help."

Branch Mission: Find Hua Hua. Reward 300 coupons upon completion.

As soon as the villagers voices fell, the prompt tone of the branch task sounded again in Zhao Zhu and Chen Hongs minds.

The villagers left quickly and should have lost their way to find other villagers to go find Hua Hua together.

"Looks like were going to be busy again?"

"Believe me, its right, earning a little more coupons at this time will not regret later."

"Alright, alright, Ill listen to you." Zhao Zhu was quite easy-going at this moment, "But now Im getting more and more of a feeling that Im playing a real-life online game, and helping find my daughter too, tsk tsk."

"In online games, you can revive after dying, but its not possible here." Chen Hong said expressionlessly.

  ……

There are two graveyards in the village. One of them, which has a long history, often experiences strange occurrences, such as hearing women crying at midnight and children laughing during the day, or seeing deceased elderly people walking around. As time passed, villagers became afraid and eventually found a new graveyard. The old one gradually became abandoned, but many peach trees grew nearby. Some mischievous kids would ignore their parents warnings and go there to pick peaches to eat. Huahua seemed to be in this situation as well.

When Zhao Zhu and Chen Hong arrived at the deserted tomb, they found that there were only two of them around.

"Why is it so fake? Didnt they say the whole village was going to look for him? Why are there only two of us, what about the other villagers?" Zhao Zhuo hugged his head with both arms, feeling somewhat helpless.

"Dont make a fuss, the other villagers are actually right next to us." Chen Hong suddenly blurted out this sentence and handed a small bottle over to Zhao Zhu.

  "What is this thing?"

"Cows tears with some cinnabar powder added."

"Rubbing on the eyes can see ghosts?"

  "You know quite a lot."

"This is how they always act in Hong Kong movies."

Zhao Zhu twisted open the bottle cap, dripped some cows tears onto his palm, and then wiped his eyes. His eyes felt slightly sour, but after adapting, he reopened them. Zhao Zhu immediately took a deep breath of cool air. He finally understood what Chen Hong had meant earlier when she said that many people were watching. At this moment, more than 100 villagers surrounded the two of them.

The villagers were all dressed in very bright clothes, that is, the kind of "longevity clothes". Every person, regardless of age or sex, had a faint red glow on both cheeks. All their feet were floating with only their toes touching the ground. A gentle breeze brought their faint and subtle laughter.

  "Wow, this is really exciting."

Zhao Zhu coughed, trying to cover up his nervousness and unease. To be honest, even facing a zombie wouldnt be as "stimulating" as facing over a hundred ghosts, especially when theyre all staring at you with those smiles, gazes, and expressions that cant be described in words, but can still make your skin crawl.

"Is that girl there? Have you seen her?"

Following Chen Hongs line of sight, Zhao Zhu also looked over and indeed, behind the group of ghosts, there was a ghostly woman wearing a dark blue cotton-padded jacket, holding hands with a little girl who had a dull expression. The little girl was holding some candies and honey cakes, constantly sticking out her tongue to lick them.

"What should I do next? Compete with ghosts for people? But the ghosts here shouldnt be as apathetic as those in the real world, right?"

Zhao Zhu was a bit worried that if he accidentally stirred up the hornets nest while rescuing someone, it would not be fun anymore, and there would be no more play.

"Ill distract the ghosts, then you stick this charm on that little girl." Chen Hong handed a charm to Zhao Zhu.

"What is the incantation? The Supreme Elder Lord hastens as if by imperial decree."

"You dont need to recite an incantation, just stick it on and youre good to go."

"Is this really so lacking in technical expertise?"

"Im going to summon a ghost, you get ready."

Chen Hong didnt intend to continue exchanging pleasantries with Zhao Zhu. She took a mysterious step forward, the Yu Step, a lost footwork technique. Then, Chen Hong pierced her own palm with her fingernail, and the fresh blood flowed out. She used it to draw two simple talismans on her face.

Because of the relationship with wiping away cow tears, Zhao Zhu was able to see the changes on Chen Hongs body. Chen Hong was emitting a faint red glow, and at the same time, all the ghosts around him were staring at Chen Hong with greedy and slobbering expressions, which looked strange and intimidating on their ghostly faces.

Finally, an old female ghost could not help but let out a loud whoosh and pounced on Chen Hong, or it would be more accurate to say that she floated towards him. The other ghosts were not far behind, all of them floating towards Chen Hong together. At this moment, Chen Hong seemed like an irresistible cookie in the eyes of these ghosts. If one were to compare this group of ghosts to a group of opium addicts, then Chen Hong would be a big bag of "white stuff".

After successfully attracting all the ghosts, Chen Hong didnt stand foolishly in place waiting to be surrounded by the ghosts. Instead, she ran straight in one direction, and a large group of ghosts chased after her, temporarily leaving this desolate burial ground.

The female ghost holding Hua Hua seemed to want to chase Chen Hong as well, but she couldnt run fast because she was still holding onto someone. In the end, she also made a choice and decided to continue holding onto the little girl instead of chasing after that person. She actually resisted the temptation.

However, since Chen Hong has led all the ghosts away, its now Zhao Zhuos turn.

Zhao Zhu walked towards the female ghost with the token clutched in his hand.

The female ghost stared straight at Zhao Zhu, watching as he walked step by step towards her.

However, Zhao Zhus psychological quality was much stronger than that of ordinary people, and he was not scared by the female ghost. His pace remained steady, while the female ghost began to retreat. Zhao Zhu continued to move forward, and the female ghost continued to retreat. Finally, Zhao Zhu discovered a group of small earthen houses and small concrete houses behind the female ghost. The earthen houses should be older tombs, while the small concrete houses should be smaller houses made for the dead that are more popular now.

Zhao Zhu took a deep breath, knowing he couldnt keep being boiled like a frog in warm water. If that woman brought Hua Hua "home", with so many graves around, how would he find her?

With a burst of strength in both legs, he started sprinting, his palms stuck to the talisman paper as he charged towards the female ghosts body.

The female ghost revealed a smile of triumphant conspiracy, her laughter was both eerie and sinister. One hand still held Hua Hua, while the other grabbed Zhao Zhu as he stuck the talisman paper on her body. Zhao Zhu felt a wave of dizziness and nausea wash over him, but when he recovered slightly and stood up again, he found himself standing in a small town. The town was desolate, with houses of varying heights, concrete buildings and earthen huts scattered about.

Then, on the balcony of a two-story villa, Zhao Zhu saw the female ghost standing there, with Hua Hua by her side.

"This era is clearly from the Republic of China or even earlier, how can there be such a cement tomb? This world, its really not reliable."

At this moment, Zhao Zhuo was actually thinking about this kind of thing. He was quite carefree and even if he knew that he had inexplicably shrunk and "moved" into a ghosts place, he wasnt too afraid or scared. After all, he had seen too many strange things in the past few days, so his immunity to such things had also increased.

Zhao Zhu also walked into the small Western-style house, the door was not locked, and it opened with a push. Inside, it was empty and bare, a real "home with nothing but four walls". Its probably because most people just build a small concrete house for their deceased loved ones, who would bother to make miniature furniture to put inside?

Zhao Zhu went up the stairs to the second floor and saw a female ghost on the balcony.

I dont know why, but at this moment, looking at this female ghost, I feel that she somewhat resembles a real person, no longer having that "ghostly appearance". Actually, this female ghost is quite pretty.

"Are you here for her?" The female ghost asked, pointing at Hua Hua beside her, her voice was very hoarse.

"Thats right, Im taking her back home, her parents are looking for her and theyre very anxious."

"I can let her go, but Im very lonely here by myself. Can you stay and keep me company? You use yourself to exchange for her..."

Before the female ghost finished speaking, Zhao Zhu directly turned around with a flourish, waving his hand.

"Never mind, see you later, let her keep accompanying you, Ill leave first."

Walk with ease, walk with determination.
