After that, I went to the dormitory. Fortunately it was still empty.
I had to have a look at that green ball. I drew it out and held it in my hands. As I examined it, I heard the same strange humming sound I've been hearing on and off on odd nights.
Then suddenly I felt as though I was in the middle of an earthquake! As the room trembled, it began to dissolve around me... into some other place.
I was standing in a long, large grey hall. It was lined with marble pillars that went off into a neverending distance. I couldn't see the ceiling, and the floor seemed to be transparent. When I stared down at it, it seemed as though I was walking above the stars.
"Where am I?"I said out loud, my voice echoing.
"You are within the Hall of the Green Sivril,"a voice responded, an eerie sort of voice that made me shiver as it rushed around me. I felt it like a boisterous gale in a storm. It was a whispery voice, like the wind itself. The words were barely audible, yet I understood them as though they'd been bellowed from gigantic horns.
"What is the Green Sivril?"I asked, feeling uneasy.
"The Sivril that lights the path to power,"was the whispering response.
I suddenly felt strange. Fascinated, yet terrified. What had I discovered? What sort of a Sivril was this? Was it a bad one? Were there bad Sivrils? If this was the Power Sivril, what if this was the cause of the tragedy? After all, it is a well known fact that power corrupts...
I wished that I was outside of the Sivril, back in my dormitory, and so it happened.
I've decided to keep this Sivril secret from the others. I'm a bit scared of it for now, so I've decided to hide it for a bit.
I can't help wondering why I didn't have to plant it and have some secret way of opening it, like the other ones.
Anyway, I hid it in my pillows, inside the pillow case, because it was the only place I could think of.
It's hard to believe. I've found the third Sivril! I want to tell the others, but I feel, deep down, that that would not be wise. I need to investigate it more first.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
The Next Day:
The Sivril remains hidden, though I had to remove it from my pillows, because when I tried to sleep last night, it made it very uncomfortable...
Fortunately it hasn't made that humming sound since the happening with the strange hall.
In other news, apparently Llywellyn (who did get a newt for Oliver, by the way) has become obsessed with discovering the source of the 'technology that powers this school'. Apparently Horrible Hector has been humouring him.
Later:
Barnaby woke up again! There were so many questions I wanted to ask him! About Spinner, and the Green Sivril.
"I found another Sivril!"I couldn't wait to say it. I couldn't wait to tell someone.
"And which Sivril?"he asked.
"A green one,"I answered,"I found it in the drain under the common room."
"And what happened when ye took it up?"he asked.
I described to him what happened, then said,"I didn't have to plant it in the ground, or do anything."
"The Green Sivril is earned through anguish and strife,"Barnaby responded,"it shall open itself for they that art in a time of great tribulation and reply to the call. Though take great caution. Of all the Sivrils, this one hath the greatest perils. Whatever thou doest, I give thee but one instruction. Retain it hence from the other Sivrils, for they art connected and influence one another. Always we kept this one apart."
"Alright,"I agreed.
Barnaby went on,"Moonwood did tell of a corrupting Sivril. Nev'r did he say which it wast."
"You think it could be this one?"I asked.
"I do,"he responded, grimly.
"Should I keep it hidden? Is it too dangerous to use it?"I asked.
"If it opened for thee, then thee must have necessity of it,"Barnaby replied,"wherefore ever, I knowest not. I do warn thee, for it will, alas, show thee more than one way to power, and most art not righteous."
"How will I know if it's showing me the wrong way?"I asked.
"T'would depend on whether thou hast need of power, or whether thou desirest power,"he answered,"beware of wishing to retain it. Power is a thing not meant to be kept, only utilised to create necessary order."
"I see,"I said,"who made the Green Sivril?"
"Spinner and I,"he responded.
"What happened to Spinner?"I asked, remembering the original question I had had planned.
The story of what happened to Spinner must have some curse on it. He had fallen asleep again!
Though at least I now have more information on the Green Sivril. Barnaby hadn't forbidden me from using it, just urged me to exercise caution and keep it away from the other Sivrils, which is what I'm doing already.
What if I could use it to defeat Silas? To heal the rift that he's cut into this school, and bring people back together? Just use it for that, and then hide it again. Maybe back in the drain where I first found it, or somewhere more secure?
But what was that Barnaby said? Don't keep it? Is hiding it the same thing as keeping it? Does it mean I have to share it, or does it mean I shouldn't hold onto it for longer than necessary?
Maybe I should tell someone else about it. But who? For now, I don't know.... maybe just Barnaby will do, even though I know it's not really him, just a memory of him. It's something.
