Chapter 5 Murder and Silence

The grass is very dense and there are many poisonous insects hidden inside, such as a kind of gadfly that is about the same size as a fly. If you get bitten by one, the wound will swell up immediately and become extremely painful and itchy, causing an unbearable strange discomfort.

Apart from the Gulu worm, there are many other poisonous insects. Fortunately, when Qin Lingyun went out, she applied a special insect-repelling medicine to her exposed skin areas such as her arms, palms, and face. This medicine was prepared by her older brother Qin Daniu. Qin Daniu had gone hunting in the mountains and accidentally discovered that a certain plant could repel insects after being bitten many times. After repeated experimentation, he successfully created this insect-repelling medicine, which proved to be very effective when applied to the skin.

"Found another one." Qin Lingyun parted the grass, and in the dark corner below, a small, dark blue mushroom grew on the connected roots of the grass. If it werent for Qin Lingyuns sudden improvement in eyesight and hearing over the past half year, perhaps someone else wouldnt have been able to discover it.

Its strange to say, but Qin Lingyun has clearly felt her physical quality improve over the past six months. She walks faster than before and can see the curved beak and fine feathers of eagles soaring thousands of meters high in the sky. She can also hear the chirping of insects thousands of meters away. This ability wasnt formed overnight, but rather gradually strengthened over time.

At the same time, in addition to her eyesight and hearing, her memory was also incredibly enhanced. She didnt dare say that she could memorize everything at a glance, but generally speaking, after reciting a poem or article twice, it would be etched into her mind as if carved into her brain, and even if she wanted to forget, she couldnt.

Qin Lingyun was delighted with the improvement in her memory, which made it easy for Old Master Zhou to stop punishing her and instead praise her endlessly. This also brought honor to Qin Dahus family. However, many people in the village complimented her on the surface but secretly sneered: whats the use of a girl being smart if she doesnt look good, its hard to marry into a good family.

"Its another blue mushroom." Qin Lingyun happily bent down, carefully picked up the blue mushroom and put it in the basket.

"A loud rumble... " A deafening sound like a thunderclap rang in Qin Lingyuns ears, her ears buzzing, stars flashing before her eyes, and she fell into the grass with a dizzying spin.

When Qin Lingyun came to, he clearly heard the voice speaking.

"Big brother, whats going on? Why did you ambush me?" The voice was filled with terror.

"Why? Heh heh, who let you blindly stumble upon a dead mouse and actually obtain a low-grade treasure. Today, your senior brother will teach you what it means to be punished for possessing a precious object." Another slightly hoarse voice said.

Qin Lingyuns heart tightened, and she vaguely sensed that something bad was about to happen. She looked out through the gap in the grass thicket.

A bright red light burst forth, and within the red glow was a fiery red crow. The entire crow was ablaze with flames as it rapidly drew an arc in the air.

At the forefront was a young man, wearing a yellow robe, with a pale face and black blood hanging from his mouth. He was suspended in mid-air about one meter above the ground, ready to rush forward, but the fire crow suddenly swooped down and pounced on his chest.

The one who fired the shot was a middle-aged man not far behind, with a sneer at the corner of his mouth and a murderous intent in his eyes. Qin Lingyuns heart skipped a beat as she felt a chill sweep across her face, and she hastily turned her eyes away, not daring to look directly at the middle-aged man again.

The young man in front was caught off guard and was hit by the fire crow on his chest, with a loud bang. His chest immediately became charred, and he let out a miserable cry as he fell from mid-air.

A middle-aged man suddenly appeared beside him, gazing at the young man with wide eyes and a stubborn expression. He sneered and said, "You young people dont understand things. Hand over the treasure quickly, or I might consider sparing your life."

After finishing speaking, he shook his head again: "No, even if I offer you the treasure, I wont spare your life because Im afraid youll leak the secret."

Qin Lingyun saw this and already understood what had happened. This is called "Huaibiyu" in books, which means that having a treasure but lacking the ability and strength to protect it will bring disaster upon oneself.

Qin Lingyuns hands and feet were icy cold, her lips trembling, and she was almost unable to speak. This was the first time she had seen a murder scene, and it was clear that neither of these two parties were ordinary people, but rather "immortals" who had once been high above in her mind.

In an instant, emotions of horror and fear swirled in her mind. Qin Lingyun pressed her body firmly to the ground, trying to conceal herself with the grass. Her intuition told her that if she was discovered by the middle-aged man now, the outcome would definitely be more bad than good.

At this time, the middle-aged man had already reached into the young mans bosom and pulled out a black cloth bag.

"Let me see what treasures are inside the storage bag." The middle-aged man muttered to himself, being very cautious, his divine sense covered hundreds of meters, and everything within this range was under his control. However, he did not expect that an ordinary mortal would be hiding in a grass bush thousands of meters away, listening to his words clearly.

A middle-aged man closed his eyes, holding a storage bag in his hand. Then Qin Lingyun saw a pale blue glow flashing on the storage bag. After a while, the middle-aged man opened his eyes, and the glow on the storage bag gradually disappeared. A hint of joy appeared on his face: "The divine consciousness has been erased."

"Good things are hard to come by, indeed, Brother Haoze. Youre really too poor, not even having a few pieces of spirit stones." The middle-aged man flipped his palm, and a pale blue handkerchief appeared in it, which he examined carefully.

"Haha, Ive got the treasure." The middle-aged mans eyes lit up as he said this. He cautiously looked around in all directions, making sure no one was nearby before continuing to dig out items from his storage bag.

"What is this? The Water Lotus Technique, the Ice Arrow Art, a low-grade spiritual artifact... the Qingling Sword?" The middle-aged man pulled out several books and a small sword and tossed them aside. A round black ball then appeared in his hand, and he looked at it with a puzzled expression.

"A faint sound of boom... came, the middle-aged mans face changed greatly, and he immediately wanted to throw out the black ball. At the same time, a layer of pale blue light appeared on his body surface. Then a huge explosion sounded, and the middle-aged man was blown away by a strong force. The cyan light outside his body flickered a few times before disappearing, and his skull suddenly burst open, with blood gushing out like a fountain."

Witnessing such a bloody scene, Qin Lingyun couldnt help but feel her stomach churn, wanting to vomit. She hastily covered her mouth with her hand and gritted her teeth to hold it in.

"Damn it..." The young man who was originally dead suddenly opened his eyes, stuttering out these few words. He struggled to sit up but ultimately couldnt due to the severity of his injuries. He spat out a mouthful of blood, with a large hole in his chest from being struck by the firebird.

"I didnt think I, Li Haoze, would die so miserably." The luster in Li Haozes eyes gradually dimmed until it was completely gone, and there was no longer any sign of life.

Qin Lingyun still didnt dare to come out, and waited for a very long time. The sky had already darkened, and only after she was certain that the two immortals were dead did she rub her numb legs and hands, and quickly walked out of the grass thicket.

In the distance, two more corpses were lying on the ground. One was a headless corpse, and the other had its eyes wide open, with an expression of unwillingness to die. Qin Lingyun wasnt someone who hadnt seen dead people before, but this was truly her first time seeing a celestials corpse.

"A middle-aged man ambushed Li Haoze, wanting to obtain the treasure. This is a typical case of murder for treasure. However, Li Haoze still had a breath left in him. The middle-aged man didnt realize that Li Haoze wasnt dead, possibly because he was too proud or maybe Li Haoze had the skill to pretend to be dead. Whatever the reason... As a result, Li Haoze used the black ball to blow up the middle-aged man and himself died due to severe injuries. This should be what happened earlier."

Qin Lingyun picked up the small blue sword that had fallen to the ground. The middle-aged man had said that the small blue sword was a low-grade spiritual artifact, Qingling Sword. Qin Lingyun didnt understand what "low-grade spiritual artifact" meant, but seeing how casually the middle-aged man had discarded it, she thought that this Qingling Sword wasnt very precious after all. At least, the middle-aged man didnt think much of it.

However, Qin Lingyun grasped the hilt of the sword and felt a chill run down her spine, it was definitely not made from ordinary iron.

A two-foot-long sword with a smooth surface like a mirror, shining with a faint chill, Qin Lingyun held it in her hand and her body involuntarily sank: "Its so heavy." Qin Lingyun furrowed her brow, she didnt dare to look at the two corpses, her mind racing back and forth, thinking about what to do next.

"There are many dangers in this. Now they cant expose their bodies outside, its easy to be discovered. If someone follows the clues all the way to my head..."

She recalled the ferocity of that middle-aged man and couldnt help but shudder, at this moment she felt a sense of fear towards all immortals, her heart only had one thought: "Absolutely cannot let others discover."

With this in mind, Qin Lingyun used the Qingling Sword to dig into the ground, and although the sword was very heavy, it cut through the iron like mud, and the solid soil was cut open like a block of tofu.

After digging two big pits, Qin Lingyun broke out in a cold sweat. She pushed the two corpses into the pit and buried them. Then she took out the storage bag from the middle-aged mans waist, added it to the young mans storage bag, as well as the five books that had been thrown aside, and put everything in the basket, covering them with blue mushrooms.

The sun on the horizon was about to set, Qin Lingyun cleaned up the traces around her, so ordinary people couldnt see what had happened here.

Qin Lingyun slung a small basket over her arm and hurried back down the mountain.

It wasnt until nightfall that Qin Lingyun finally had the opportunity to take out what she had obtained from under her bed.
