Chapter 63: Return of the Sun

Xu Ling flipped his wrist, and the "Soul Mirror" appeared in his palm. With a swipe of his hand, a horizontal mirror image emerged, and the red dots on Chen Jing's body began to stir, like a swarm of startled red mosquitoes flying in all directions. Just as Xu Ling thought Chen Jing was about to become disoriented, the black butterfly in the black mist held by Chen Jing's palm suddenly moved. This movement instantly created a ripple effect, and an illusion appeared out of thin air. Xu Ling hastily looked away, not daring to look again.

She gazed intently, and faintly, the sound of a sword humming arose. She waited quietly for a while, but there was no crazy shouting in her ears. Looking at Chen Jing again, he was still sitting quietly there. From the mirror, the red spots on his soul slowly calmed down.

Chen Jing sat for several months, just as Huan Ling was thinking about whether to wake Chen Jing up or not, Chen Jing woke up on his own.

"Let's go!" Chen Jing stood up and said to the virtual spirit outside, his voice was not loud but clearly entered the virtual spirit's ears.

Yu Ling shook his head, Chen Jing was somewhat surprised and asked: "Aren't you going back to the human world?"

  "Back."

"That's how it is..." Chen Jing asked, but stopped here and smiled: "That's good, I'll go first. If you have anything in the future, come to my River God Temple to find me. If I don't die, we will meet again."

He finished speaking and turned to walk along a small path in the mountains, he could probably guess why Youling didn't follow him. If he himself were to follow someone with much higher magical powers than his own, who might kill him at any moment, he would also have to think carefully about it. However, in Chen Jing's heart, no matter what Youling thought, he had already considered her a friend.

Yu Ling didn't respond, quietly watching as Chen Jing walked along the dark soul path into the mountains. Chen Jing naturally didn't hear Yu Ling's reply after a long time: "Finally, it's almost like repaying the favor, ah, the days of owing people favors are really hard to bear. Next time, I definitely won't owe anyone again, and as for the River God Temple, that's definitely not going there, how can this lonely soul enter the temple?"

She spoke in a muttering tone, her expression relaxed and lively, completely different from the quiet caution she had when interacting with Chen Jing.

"Ah, still the carefree days of a lonely soul...” The spirit tilted its head, its hands naturally and leisurely stroking the black hair hanging down on its chest, gazing at the sky with narrowed eyes, murmuring lightly and calmly: "Then I'll be a lone soul in this world, a free and easy-going lone soul."

Chen Jing naturally didn't know what was on the mind of this mysterious spirit. To him, she was almost like a ghostly enigma. Her magical powers were evident, yet she was just a small, insignificant spirit. So many powerful gods and cultivators had died, but she remained alive and well. Chen Jing also didn't know how much she remembered or what kind of person she was in her past life.

Step by step, he walked along the mountain path, and many vengeful spirits floated past him like the wind. A foul odor crept into his nostrils, and when he glanced sideways, these hellish spirits all had physical bodies, but their flesh looked just like the terrifying image of himself that Chen Jing had once seen in the mirror.

Looking back on the road into the mountains, it's already somewhat blurry. Walking further forward, I've arrived at that place where the sky and earth seem to be cut off, the road still stretches out, but ahead is shrouded in misty haze, completely unable to see clearly, as if someone on the shore gazing into a murky underwater world. He watched as a departed soul entered the dark greenish-black mist, standing there for a long time, yet couldn't hear any sound at all, just like that side was an endless abyss.

Chen Jing couldn't feel any breath or aura after the dark green smoke and fog, it was as calm as death. This made Chen Jing's heart uneasy, looking at many wandering spirits and evil ghosts that didn't dare to enter, he thought: "Could there really be a fatal danger behind this, but how come I don't feel anything?"

He then used his divine sense to probe inside, but his divine sense disappeared without a trace as soon as it entered. Chen Jing took out the sword scabbard that had been condensed from the river bank and looked at it, only this way could he feel a little more at ease. As for the sword scabbard transformed from the river bank, Chen Jing didn't know when it was gone. At first, when he met You You, he didn't think of looking at the symbol "Jinghe Xiu Chun Wan He Shen" engraved on the scabbard, and when he thought of coming to see it, the scabbard had already disappeared. Now the sword has been shattered into numerous pieces of varying sizes, condensed together by the sword aura.

Chen Jing looked for a while, took a deep breath, stepped in, narrowed his eyes, and couldn't see anything clearly. He only saw countless chaotic flows surging forward, but there was no danger, just a warm breeze blowing towards him. The scene in front of him changed, where was the green smoke and mist?

"This is the mortal world!" Chen Jing was overjoyed, this was a feeling that only existed in the mortal world. Contrary to Chen Jing's expectations, there was no danger, but rather all the vengeful spirits that had entered earlier were gone, and the air seemed to have a faint hint of yin energy dissipating with the wind. He was surprised and suspicious, and only then did he carefully examine his surroundings, a lush forest surrounded him, it was indeed a mountainous region. Turning back, he saw a steep cliff, not very high but extremely precipitous, and the place where he had emerged from had a seal on it, with intricate symbols carved onto its surface. Chen Jing hadn't felt any harm when he came out.

"Huh, who are you?" Suddenly, a voice came from a small path around the corner in the distance.

Chen Jing looked back and saw a young man in his early twenties, wearing a scholar's robe. His steps were not light and airy, but rather heavy. Chen Jing knew at a glance that he was an untrained person. Before he could respond, the other party had already walked up along the mountain path, asking as he walked: "This is a forbidden area of my sect, how did you get in?"

His voice had only the bookish air peculiar to scholars, and when he walked, he looked down at the road with his head bowed. When asked a question, he would glance at Chen Jing and then look back at the uneven mountain path, which was very difficult to walk on.

"Hmm...heh heh, come to think of it, I'm not even sure how I got in." Chen Jing said with a smile.

He was almost near Chen Jing, the road had become relatively flat, he raised his head to look at Chen Jing, suddenly let out a loud "ah" and retreated repeatedly. Pointing at Chen Jing's head, his voice trembling slightly as he said: "Your head..."

"Hehe, it's nothing." Chen Jing had been in the dark for too long and had seen too many evil spirits. It was rare to see a human being, and he felt particularly close to this person who didn't have any spiritual power at all. He seemed to have shifted his attention because of this matter and no longer asked Chen Jing how he ended up here. Instead, he looked Chen Jing up and down and said, "Then your magical powers must be very high."

Chen Jing smiled slightly and didn't say a word, so he took it as Chen Jing's consent. He said, "It seems to have some of the legendary aura of a high-ranking person." Then he walked closer and asked, "Do you know any invisibility symbols or something like that?"

Chen Jing looked at his expression and couldn't help but want to, but he didn't expect that a person who wouldn't cultivate would have no respect for someone like him who cultivates.

  "It seems like this thing."

"Quickly give me one of those invisibility charms, my second uncle is coming after me." The young scholar urged excitedly.

Chen Jing smiled slightly and didn't delay. With a merge of his two hands, a black water-like talisman paper appeared, and he began to draw on it with ease.

"This is the character 'yin', I didn't think you could actually make a void symbol, that's amazing." The young man was quite knowledgeable, Chen Jing still didn't know what character it was, but he did.

"Just stick this stealth symbol on your chest and you'll be invisible." Chen Jing said, the young scholar was overjoyed and took the stealth symbol, turned around and was about to leave, but Chen Jing called out and asked: "I don't know what kind of place this is, what kind of sect's forbidden land is this?"

The young book boy was in a hurry to leave, and when Chen Jing asked him this way, he quickly said: "This is Hei Yaozhou, Cang Xue Mountain, Xian Fu Sect. Let's go quickly, my second uncle is coming." After finishing speaking, he turned back to the back of the cliff, it seems that there is a road behind that leaves.

Just a few steps away, the young man suddenly stopped and turned around to face Chen Jing, saying: "My name is Zhao Yubai, one day we'll meet again on the rivers and lakes, and I'll invite you to drink a pot of Drunken Immortal's Dream." After finishing speaking, he left, seemingly without any sincerity. The world is vast, who knows when they would meet again after parting ways this time? However, Chen Jing felt that he was not pretentious at all, and his sincerity wasn't just expressed through words and facial expressions.

At this point, Bao Xiao laughed and asked: "Why is it just one jar, rather than ten or eight jars?"

"Haha, Drunken Immortal's Dream, one jar can make an immortal drunk, if you really can drink ten or eight jars, I'll definitely treat you." He said loudly without turning his head, and by the time his voice fell, he had already turned into the mountain rocks.

Chen Jing watched him leave, and his mood, which had been tense for a long time, finally relaxed.

Some people meet for the first time and it feels like they've known each other for many years, while others know each other for many years but still feel like strangers.

Faintly heard the footsteps coming from the direction where Zhao Yubai had just left, although very light, but not intentionally hiding, Chen Jing immediately wanted to avoid it, lest it cause unnecessary misunderstandings, because earlier he heard Zhao Yubai say that this was a forbidden area of his Xian Dao Sect.

Just as he was about to leave, something unbelievable happened to him. It wasn't the "Wandering Soul Nightmare Curse" that struck, but his body had a problem. Originally, because of staying in the underworld for too long, his flesh, which was faintly black, kept drifting out into the air, releasing black gas.

"What's going on?" Chen Jing was shocked in his heart, and suddenly thought of the feeling that the air was emitting a gloomy aura when he just came out. He was horrified to think: "Could it be that these gloomy auras were emitted by those vengeful spirits who came out first? Are they alive or dead?"

The speed at which the black air was dissipating was getting faster and faster, he looked at his hands and found that they were withering away at a visible rate. His flesh, which had been nourished by the yin spirit's energy, had wrinkled up in an instant, becoming like an old man's hand, like dry tree bark.

What is emitted from the body is not Fa power, but rather the spiritual energy of the flesh.

"The demon is hard to survive in the world, could it be because the yin spirit of the underworld cannot stay in this world?" Chen Jing thought to himself, and suddenly a loud shout rang out: "Who dares to trespass on the forbidden land of Xianfu Sect!"

Chen Jing was shocked by the changes in his own body, and upon hearing the shout, he looked up to see a Daoist standing at the corner of the small road, with piercing eyes, wearing a cyan Daoist robe, and carrying a yellow Huixian sword on his back. When Chen Jing looked up, he was clearly startled, but immediately shouted loudly: "It turns out that the demonic creature from the underworld has broken through the seal." The tone of this voice was not high, but it shook the mountain rocks, and the echoes between the trees were loud and clear, obviously containing extremely strong magical power inside, or perhaps using some kind of magic.

Chen Jing knew that he was using this voice to summon others. He immediately wanted to explain, but as soon as he opened his mouth, his mind suddenly became confused and a murderous intention arose in his heart. He hastily closed his mouth and instantly flew up into the air, flying towards the back of the precipice.

"Evil spirits of the underworld, blindly infatuated with the splendor of the mortal world, do you not know the suffering of having your soul scattered?" The Taoist priest also caught up at the moment Chen Jing was about to rise, and simultaneously let out a cold voice that seemed to have life as it spread in one direction.
