53. Jenny

Jenny paced around in her glass cell trying her best to not cry. She hated crying and had done so much already. Ever since she woke up in this scary place today, she had cried for hours and begged to be set free so she could see her Mommy and Frankenbug. Mommy had warned her about talking to strangers alone and now she realized how important that warning was. She thought she could trust Mister Chuck since Mommy knew him and that made him okay, but it turned out he wasn’t just a stranger, he was a bad guy. Why else would he kidnap her? Only bad guys kidnapped people.

Jenny’s eyes watered and her lip started to quiver at the thought of being kidnapped by a bad guy. She didn’t want to cry again so she squeezed her eyes shut and sang her favorite song until she felt a little better.

“Hi there Jenny,” A deep voice said from a voice box in the room. It was Chuck, the mean, bad, guy.

“Let me go, you Butt-face!” Jenny said, feeling a little guilty for using such extreme language, but he deserved it.

“I can let you go any time you actually want to, but then who would save your Father? You’re the only one I know that can save him.”

That caught Jenny’s attention, “Daddy’s in trouble?”

“That’s right Jenny,” Chuck said in a sad and worried tone, “Your Daddy was doing research with me so he could become a superhero, but it went wrong and now he’s trapped.”

“Oh my gosh! Where is he trapped?” Jenny said.

“He’s trapped as Frankenbug,” Chuck said.

“Frankenbug is my Daddy?” Jenny said with wide eyes as she thought about how much she cared about Frankenbug and how much he cared about her. It was hard to believe though. “If Frankenbug is my daddy, then why is he so much dumber?”

There was a pause before Chuck answered through the voice box, “It’s because he needs nutrition to get smarter in the body he’s trapped in. I’m sure you noticed that Frankenbug got smarter and smarter right?”

Jenny thought about how Frankenbug learned to talk and even obey and bring her flowers and Chuck was right, Frankenbug really did get smarter and smarter.

“So how do we save him?” Jenny said.

“Are you sure you don’t want to leave though?” Chuck said, “I know you wanted to go home.”

Jenny couldn’t go home without her Daddy, “No! I want to stay and save my Daddy.”

“I know your father will be so happy. He missed you a lot. That’s why he came to see you as Frankenbug.”

“I miss him too,” Jenny squeezed her eyes again to stop the tears. She needed to be brave if she was going to save her Daddy. “Can I call my Mommy so she isn’t scared?”

“Sadly no,” Chuck said, “There are bad guys that want to hurt Frankenbug before he can become a hero and if we told your mother, she would be in danger.”

  “Oh no,” Jenny said.

“That’s right, but once we save your Daddy, he can become a hero and stop all the bad guys. Maybe you can even become a superhero too.”

“Really?” Jenny’s eyes lit up at that and she hopped up and down in excitement.

“Oh definitely,” Chuck said, “Are you ready to start?”

“Yeah!” Jenny nodded and wiggled with excitement. She was going to get to see her Daddy and become a hero. This day started so scary, but now it was going to be the best day ever.
