Chapter 19: Temporary Victory. ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

It would still take at least five seconds before Nisha could fully restore her body.

During that time, not only would she struggle to protect Alice from all sides, but having lost a large portion of her body, the little ghost had also lost much of her attack range, forcing her to get closer to the enemy to fight.

Fortunately, the main attacks of the modern imperial army relied on electromagnetic rifles and plasma launchers, all of which were long-range weapons.

Even though they were wearing exoskeletal armor, this protection paled in comparison to the destructive power of firearms.

  The armor seemed almost useless.

Thus, once an enemy was reached by Nisha with her terrifying offensive power and molecular-cutting blades, those soldiers barely had a chance to react.

In the blink of an eye, they would be reduced to shredded pieces of flesh.

But now the question was: how to get close to the enemies as quickly as possible while avoiding the attacks?

Nisha really wanted to learn the “serpentine movement” technique. However, even for humans it was hard to master walking like that, let alone for a little ghost who had never attempted that kind of movement in combat.

She still couldn’t fully control her strength, which often caused her to overshoot her turns. And since the imperial soldiers were constantly moving and using evasive maneuvers, they weren’t stationary targets, it was extremely difficult to hit them.

So, besides making quick turns, was there another way for such a noticeable "target" to approach the enemy without getting hit?

Suddenly, Nisha remembered a “tower defense” game that Alice had played the day before.

In the game, she saw the characters suddenly speed up to dodge the colorful attacks launched by others.

Maybe this could work in real life too?

Nisha couldn’t maintain a high speed at all times. After all, while ordinary trees or rocks weren’t obstacles, her strength still wasn’t enough to ignore natural elevations like hills.

The higher the speed, the harder it was to turn. If she collided with a hill, she would get stuck.

But if it was just a short acceleration on flat ground, followed by a sudden deceleration to dissipate the momentum…

Yes! Exactly like in the game battles.

The speed variation would make it harder for the enemies to aim and still preserve her agility, or at least that’s how Nisha understood it.

She thought it was a great idea. That technique, which Alice called “speed run,” could become an important skill for her.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Without hesitation, upon spotting a soldier with a rocket launcher, Nisha immediately put her newly discovered “speed run” strategy into action.

Since she outpaced the auto-aiming system’s predictions, all the imperial army’s attacks missed.

It had to be admitted that, while the devices were extremely accurate, their ability to predict movement was very limited. And relying on human aim to hit a target that accelerates and decelerates irregularly... was nearly impossible.

The “speed run” technique was, in fact, incredibly effective.

Without the storm of bullets blocking her path, Alice’s safety increased considerably. And Nisha finally managed to approach the soldier who was still reloading his rocket launcher.

Even under chip control, that soldier seemed to know his end was near. In a final act of bravery, he tried to use the launcher as a club to strike Alice, but...

  CLANG!

The metal alloy rocket launcher was shattered along with the soldier. With a flash of her blade, Nisha eliminated him in the blink of an eye.

And just like that, one less threat.

“Nisha, amazing! That’s it, finish off those bastards!”

cried Alice, surprised and thrilled to see the little ghost learn and adapt a new skill on her own.

She knew how much Nisha hated thinking or learning.

However, now she was imitating combat techniques seriously, even if they were simple and basic, it was huge progress.

Receiving the girl’s praise, the little ghost entered “massacre mode,” filled with pride and joy.

Maybe learning something from time to time wasn’t so bad… Learning a new skill was actually fun.

After all, wasn’t making Alice happy the most important thing of all? Was there anything more valuable in the world?

There was no time for reflection. More than twenty enemies still remained. With the use of the “speed run” to dodge attacks, Nisha was no longer vulnerable to slow rockets. And her body was about to be fully regenerated. The end of the inhuman soldiers was near!

It was a bloody dance, a killing art. Nisha, now mastering the technique, learned to use deceleration in turns too, avoiding overshooting targets.

With the combination of “speed run” and zigzag movement, the little ghost, who once moved stiffly and straight—was now able to change direction, accelerate, and decelerate constantly.

She became a spinning blade slicing fruit, while the poor soldiers were the helpless fruits on the cutting board.

With just a few silent strikes, all the enemies on the ground were eliminated.

It seemed that unless the imperial firepower reached a whole new level, their common troops had completely lost the ability to threaten a “being of anti-entropy and free will.”

Now, among the rubble, only three warships remained in the sky, ships whose main cannons were still charging and whose scattered electromagnetic weapons posed no threat.

With no ground troops to hold Alice back, and without Nisha’s recklessness making things easier, those ships could never hit her with her current mobility.

  “...”

“Nisha, can you try flying up to the sky? If we can cut through those ships' armor, we can turn the scumbags inside into a fruit salad!”

  “...”

  “Fly~~(′?ω?`)?”

  PLOFT!

Floating slowly was fine, but flying quickly was another story.

Obeying the girl’s order, Nisha tried to take off for the third time. But in practice, she only made a big leap and, like a deflating balloon, spun through the air before falling to the ground.

Obviously, that was far from flying, at best, a clumsy “ascend to the heavens.”

“Stop, stop! Nisha, stop ‘flying,’ I’m getting dizzy!”

In pain from her wound, Alice quickly ordered Nisha to stop. She realized she’d been too optimistic, the little ghost still didn’t know how to fly.

And with that floating speed, they’d never reach the three anti-gravity ships.

  So... what to do?

With no alternative, Alice just shook her head in resignation.

The ships showed no intention of chasing them, nor were their main cannons still charging. Ignoring those giant machines, she said to Nisha:

“Looks like there’s nothing we can do about them for now… Alright, before the imperial reinforcements arrive, let’s head to the city of Flaren! Once we’re in the heart of Nomeka’s capital, those strategic weapons won’t be able to follow us anymore!”
