Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Previous Night

Maybe it was because I drank too much water, but Chao Sheng finally fell asleep with great difficulty, only to wake up again. Although it was June, the night wasn't hot, and the moonlight shone on the ground like a layer of frost, white and silver bright.

Chao Sheng stood still in front of the eaves, looking at it for a long time.

  "Is it born?"

"Autumn Ink's sister?" Chao Sheng almost jumped in fright, someone suddenly spoke up in the dark.

Qiu Shan came over wearing a piece of clothing: "You're not sleeping, what are you doing here?"

"Get up and relieve yourself, the moon is quite good. Autumn Ink sister, what's this..."

Qiu Yan should be in the Fourth Prince's residence tonight, how did he end up here?

"Never mind, Your Highness had a few more cups today and is thirsty. And the tea water in the room isn't drinkable either, I'll go to the back to fetch hot water and brew some more tea."

  "Ah, I'll go get it."

Qiu Yan thought for a moment: "Alright, you can go."

Chao Sheng went back and poured hot water on the small stove, but Qiu Yan was no longer in his original place.

It's almost time to return home.

Chao Sheng turned his head and took a look, then walked to the front door of the house. The door was indeed unlocked.

"Autumn Ink sister, I've come to deliver water."

A voice came from inside the house: "Come in."

Chao Sheng hesitated for a moment, then gently pushed open the door and walked in.

The fourth prince's bedroom was in the west wing, and Chao Sheng had never been inside even once.

Looking through the gap in the curtain, a faint yellow light seeped out, and Cai Sheng felt a slight unease in his heart.

  Qiu Yan, where is he?

  Where did she go?

"Come in and have some tea."

Chao Sheng responded with a sound, and could only lift one corner of the tent, walking in.

Across the screen, Chao Sheng caught a faint scent. Mixed with the smell of books, ink, wine and incense.

This fragrance is both fresh and ripe, it's just like the scent of tea.

The water brought by the tide is just plain water. If you want to make tea, she can do it, but she doesn't know where the tea leaves are in this house.

The fourth prince behind the screen said: "Pour me a glass of water. How is it that Autumn Ink went out for half a day, but you're the one who came to deliver water?"

Chao Sheng could only pick up a cup, pour about half a cup of water, and go around the screen.

The fourth prince was sitting on the edge of the bed, wearing a bamboo linen undershirt. His face was slightly red, whether from the effects of wine or the heat in the room, and his eyelids drooped as he held the cup to his mouth.

The fourth prince took it and drank two mouthfuls, obviously really thirsty.

  "Pour another cup."

Chao Sheng went out again and still only poured half a cup.

"Be careful, Your Highness, it's scalding hot."

The fourth prince said with a hint of surprise: "Why are you delivering water?"

"Just now, Autumn Ink sister came out to pour water, I ran a leg for her, but when I came back, she was nowhere to be seen."

The fourth prince finished drinking water, holding the cup in his hand and playing with it: "Everyone is tired today, why don't you go to sleep yet?"

"I've already slept, but I drank too much water and got up again."

The fourth prince handed over the cup, and Chao Sheng reached out to take it, but the fourth prince didn't let go of his hand.

Chao Sheng was stunned for a moment, and the fourth prince asked: "Did you eat crispy skin meat tonight?"

Chao Shengming knew she shouldn't have looked up at this moment, but she still raised her head slightly.

The fourth prince's eyes looked gentle and warm under the candlelight.

At first sight, Chao Sheng thought that the Fourth Prince looked like a person in a painting, beautiful but distant and indifferent.

But now I don't have this feeling anymore.

  "I ate."

  "Is it delicious?"

  Delicious.

  The fourth prince smiled slightly.

He looks really good when he smiles.

Chao Sheng had never seen anyone more handsome than him.

How did the fourth prince think of asking her this?

Chao Sheng didn't dare think too much, took a cup and retreated to one side.

  Qiu Yan finally came back.

Her complexion wasn't too good, she came in and apologized first, it turned out that she had eaten something bad for her stomach, so Chao Sheng hadn't seen her just now.

The fourth prince did not blame her, but instead asked if she was alright and whether she needed medicine.

Although Qiu Yan said it was nothing serious, his face didn't look like it was nothing serious.

"I remember there's Ping Fu San in the medicine box, take a packet and go back to rest."

  "But Your Highness, here..."

  "There's someone here."

Qiu Yan seems to be somewhat uneasy.

The tide is also very unexpected.

She wasn't inexperienced in serving at night - when she was at the Yunxia Palace, Sui Mo took her to serve Chen Fei at night, and she knew what to do.

But the fourth prince insisted on doing so, and Autumn Ink's face turned pale again. Chao Sheng felt that he could even hear her stomach growling with hunger.

As expected, Qiu Yan couldn't take it anymore and left again.

When she comes back again, her waist is almost straight and can't hold on anymore.

"I can do it too," said Chao Sheng in a soft voice: "Autumn Ink sister, hurry up and take the medicine back to rest—"

"You'd better be careful, Your Highness might not feel too well after drinking." After Autumn Ink carefully reminded her of this, she dragged her almost exhausted body back to her room.

Chao Sheng never thought that he would take over Qiu Shan's night shift for no reason.

She lay down on the couch by the window and didn't dare lie flat.

The fourth prince should also be awake, the candle holder had been moved to the corner, and the room was dark again. The moonlight made the window screen bright, as if it were covered with a layer of silver gauze.

The fourth prince suddenly asked: "Where did you work before?"

Chao Sheng is a bit strange, doesn't the Fourth Prince know that she came from Huanyi Alley?

  "Before going to Xiangjiang Road."

Chao Sheng's heart skipped a beat, and she replied softly: "I was a maid in the Yunxia Palace for half a year."

"Hmm, your clothes are mended quite well."

  Clothes?

Chao Sheng had been in the Eastern Palace since he was a child and had never worn out any clothes.

  But she did supplement before.

But how did the fourth prince know?

The fourth prince did not speak again, and after a while, he heard an even and calm breathing sound.

  He fell asleep.

Chao Sheng hugged his thin quilt, dazed and felt that he had only dozed off for a moment. When he opened his eyes again, it was already the fifth watch of the night.

That Ping Fu San seems to be quite effective, Qiyan's diarrhea has stopped, and he came over quietly.

Chao Sheng opened the door for her, and Qiu Yan flashed in.

  "Is everything all right?"

"No." Chao Sheng said in a low voice: "Then I'll go back. How is Autumn Ink's sister doing?"

Qiu Yan called out to her: "Wait... if Chun Mo asks you where you went, what will you say?"

Chao Sheng was taken aback for a moment.

She said she kept watch for the fourth prince, and Chun Mo didn't know what he would think.

"You just said I'm not feeling well, you helped me carry water and did the chores, and then rested in my room." Qiu Yan shook his head: "She's actually not a bad person, it's just that she has a bit of a narrow mind..."

Qiu Zhen obviously understood Chun Mo's words, and Chao Sheng nodded heavily: "I know."

After returning, Chun Mo had indeed woken up and was getting dressed. Chao Sheng told her what Qiu Zhan had said, and Chun Mo didn't ask much: "How is she now?"

  "It looks much better now."

When Spring Ink left, Chao Sheng finally let out a long sigh of relief.

She actually has a clear conscience and she didn't do anything wrong.

It's better to have one thing less than to have one thing more.

If it was because of what happened last night, Chun Mo would have been wary of her, that's asking for trouble.

It's probably that Chun Mo won't know about it...

Akane didn't say anything, and the fourth prince probably wouldn't bring it up for no reason either.
