Wang Ping'an hastily declined, saying: "You'd better take it back, I know how hard your life is, usually there's no income, just relying on storing some eggs to exchange for some oil, salt, and vinegar. Even if you don't exchange things, leaving it here for your wife to nourish her body would be good, take it back, take it back!"
The middle-aged man said, "My wife's illness is troubling you, Doctor Wang Ping'an, to diagnose and treat her, and also cover the cost of medicine. We were already feeling guilty about it. If you don't accept this basket of eggs, we will feel even more guilty. Please accept it, Doctor!" He put the basket on the table and turned around to leave, afraid that Doctor Wang Ping'an would not accept his eggs.
Wang Ping'an saw that he couldn't stop him, so he hastily called out: "Housekeeper, quickly give him the money for the eggs!" The housekeeper responded with a sound and hurriedly chased after him. These past few days, such things had happened frequently, and many patients' family members were grateful to Wang Ping'an and insisted on giving him gifts. If he didn't accept them, they would just put them down and run away.
The old man walked back, holding a broken ceramic bowl in his hand, and said with a painful red face: "Master Wang, I'm really sorry to let you see an old man's urine."
Two little maids standing by rolled their eyes and one of them, Ding Dan, said, "Our young master is always so kind-hearted." She covered her nose with her hand and retreated to a distance. Ke Lianwu, however, remained silent, took a step forward, examined the urine, then stepped back, waiting to see how Wang Pingan would diagnose it.
Wang Ping'an took a look at the old man's hand-held ceramic bowl, saw that the urine contained blood and had fine sand. He frowned, from various symptoms, the old man should be suffering from warm-heat-type urinary tract stones, this disease is not easy to cure.
After a moment, Wang Ping'an picked up his brush and wrote out a prescription, listing numerous medicinal herbs. Once the ink was dry, he said: "This prescription includes Jin Qian Cao, Hai Jin Sha, Che Qian Zi, Shi Wei, Fu Ling, and Hua Shi to promote urination and relieve urinary tract infections; Da Fu Pi and Zhi Ke to regulate Qi and relieve stagnation; and Ji Nei Jin to dissolve stones. Most of these herbs are used for their diuretic properties."
He said, "However, I'm afraid this medicine will harm your spleen and kidneys, so I added Astragalus to tonify Qi and strengthen the spleen, walnut kernel to tonify the kidney and dissolve stones, and licorice root to harmonize and moderate the middle. With these medicines combined, it can effectively cure your illness."
The old man was illiterate, and Wang Ping'an explained the prescription to him. He didn't understand it either, but looking at the long list of medicine names, he said with difficulty: "This medicine is very expensive, right?"
Wang Ping'an hummed in response, just about to speak up when he heard Ke Lianwu behind him say: "The medical expenses were taken care of by my young master, you can rest assured and focus on recovering, don't worry about the money!"
Ding Dan listened, hummed a sound, she knew that this barbarian girl was very rich, and would also be polite in front of the young master. Every time someone couldn't afford the medical expenses, she would rush to pay the money, trying to win the young master's favor. In fact, she herself also wanted to show off, let the young master notice her, but it was difficult because she had no money, so she could only be angry with a blind eye.
Wang Ping'an turned his head to glance at Ke Lianwu, smiled, but didn't say anything. He picked up the pen and rewrote the prescription, handing it over to her, saying: "You take this prescription!"
Ke Lianwu was overjoyed, hastily took the prescription from Fangzi, and smiled brightly at Wang Ping'an: "Thank you for trusting me." But then she heard Wang Ping'an say: "However, you must teach Danruo the words on the prescription. I'll explain the medicine to you both, but recognizing characters is up to you to teach her. If she can't learn, I won't give you any more prescriptions in the future!"
Ke Lian's smile suddenly disappeared, and she stared at Ding Danruo. Seeing that Ding Danruo had a bright smile on her face, she said with grievance: "She will intentionally pretend not to know!"
"Then you figure out a way to teach her!" Wang Ping'an stopped paying attention to them and continued examining the patient.
Dandan was pleased with herself, and in the heart of the young master, she still had a bit more weight. She whispered to Ke Lianwu: "From now on, you must call me sister, if you dare to call me little sister again, hum, hum, hum! You think about it yourself!"
Xiangtang Academy
Qiu Tingxuan took out a handkerchief to wipe away Qiu Wenpu's nosebleed, saying: "Father, what's wrong with you? Is it because of the Guizhi decoction?"
Qiu Wenpu didn't speak, and after a while, the nosebleed finally stopped. He closed his eyes to think for a moment, then reached out to flip through the "Shang Han Lun". Shaking his head, he said: "Could Zhang Zhongjing's prescription be wrong? Perhaps it wasn't a wind-cold illness that Father suffered from?"
Qiu Tingxuan felt a chill run down his spine, but it wasn't just the cold. His father was well taken care of, but he was getting on in years, and who could guarantee that there weren't other underlying health issues? If it was some other illness... He didn't dare think about it further and hastily said: "Father, I'll go get a doctor for you right away! Let me first find Cheng Jisheng, if he can't make it, I'll immediately dispatch someone to Luoyang to fetch one!"
"Don't panic, where has the demeanor your father taught you gone?" Qiu Wenpu lightly scolded, waving his hand: "I'll take another look at the medical books. If it still doesn't work, you can go invite Cheng Jisheng again. You go out first, study hard and don't divide your attention."
Qiu Tingxuan had a change of heart and didn't leave, but seeing his father wave goodbye, he obediently lowered his head and left the room, returning to the academy. However, after returning to the academy, he couldn't calm down and focus on reading, pacing back and forth in the room.
Suddenly, a servant came to report that Hamiti had arrived and was seeking an audience with the mountain master.
Qiu Tingxuan had always looked down on Hu people, and he didn't get along with Hamiti very much. However, Hamiti was a big businessman who knew how to deal with people. No matter how annoyed Qiu Tingxuan was with him, he would still put on a thick face and try to get closer. Over time, although he hadn't won over Qiu Tingxuan, he had gained the favor of Qiu Yunpu. He often claimed to be Qiu Yunpu's close friend and would boast about his good relationship with the old master whenever he met people.
Qiu Tingxuan was in a bad mood, and didn't have the energy to deal with Hamiti. He told his servant, "Go tell him that the mountain master is not available today, please ask him to come another day."
The servant said: "Master Ha has brought many gifts, will you stay?"
"Ask them all to come back, don't bother." Qiu Tingxuan said impatiently.
The servant answered and came out to see Hamiti waiting outside the academy, saying: "Mr. Ha, my master is not convenient to meet guests today, you can come another day!"
Hamiti came today not for anything else, but precisely for the matter of Wang Ping'an. He heard that Qiu Wenpu was not seeing guests and thought for a moment before saying: "Old Mountain Master has always been kind to me, it's impossible that he won't see me. Are you asking about Young Master Qiu?"
The servant smiled and thought: "You really understand things, one guess is right."
Hamiti handed over a string of copper coins and smiled: "Old Mountain Master, is there anything inconvenient? Tell me about it."
The servant glanced at the copper coins, but didn't take them. He didn't intentionally make things difficult either. Instead, he said: "The master of the mountain is unwell, and our young master is worried about this matter. Please don't blame us for offending you. Ha Laoye, please come again another day!" With that, he turned to leave.
"Unwell? Ah, if you're ill, go find Ping'an Xiao Shenyi, everyone in Xuzhou City knows that!" He spoke loudly, but when he mentioned the name "Ping'an Xiao Shenyi", his voice became muffled.
The servant stopped in his tracks and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Hamiti said vaguely again, and the servant still didn't hear clearly. He walked closer and asked: "Master Ha, who do you want to find for your illness?"
"Peaceful little divine doctor!" Hamiti said loudly and clearly.
The servant rubbed his ears and this time he heard clearly and remembered even more clearly, his ears were almost deafened, it was hard to forget.
Hamiti left without any explanation, leaving the gift behind, and got on his horse carriage to leave. The servant called out from behind: "Old Master Ham, this gift... you're really leaving quickly!"
Returning to the study, the servant said: "Young master, Mr. He insisted on leaving the gift behind and has left."
Qiu Tingxuan hummed and saw that the servant was still standing there without leaving, so he asked: "Is there anything else?"
"Old Master Ha said when he left that if you get sick, look for Ping'an Xiaoyishi, everyone in Xuzhou City knows to find him!" The servant replied truthfully.
Qiu Tingxuan furrowed his brow, "Ping'an Xiao Shenyi?" Who is this person? I've never heard of him. He hummed and said: "Send someone to Jisheng Hall to see if Dr. Cheng is there. If he is, invite him over. If not, wait for him. When he returns, ask him to come here!"
He thought for half a day and felt that it was better to ask Dr. Cheng to come and see his father's illness. As the saying goes, "A doctor can't treat himself", although his father's medical skills were not weak, but he would give himself some bias when treating himself, so it was better to ask Dr. Cheng to come once.
The servant answered and went out.
