The Dragon and the Bard

  When sky was new

  The dragon flew

  The world was brightly waking

  And far he roamed

  Till he found home

  Amid the mountains quaking

  His fire was proud

  His roar was loud

His hoard of gold he cherished

  His every scale

  Was tough as mail

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

And all who fought him perished

  I went to seek

  His rocky peak

But did not look for treasure

  Here was a sage

  Who’d lived an age

  With stories beyond measure

  I’ll admit fear

  As I drew near

  To this lord among peasants

  “And who are thee

  Who doth not flee

  In my most frightful presence?”

  I gave a bow

  “A man who now

Has gazed ‘pon your great thunder

  The tales are true

  Great sir, for you

I’ve brought three songs of wonder”

  “Very well then”

  He spoke again

  And made a boulder crumble

  “Then play for me

  Your wonders three”

He said in a near rumble

  I sang of old

  And dragons bold

  And tales of ancient magic

  Then silver swords

  And knights and lords

  Last, poetry so tragic

  When I was spent

  The dragon went

Tears fell, he could not bear it

  “You’ve played that well

  Now I will tell

  A yarn of equal merit”

  He gave to me

  A grand story

Of deeds so great and vile

  And I left him

  With life and limb

  And tales worth the trial

  Though gone these days

  With their old ways

  As June fades to December

  The old soothsayer

  Waits in his lair

  For those who dare remember
