Deep in the woods, the old Taoist stood facing Zhang Jun, two meters apart.
"The old Taoist said calmly: 'Heaven and earth are divided into yin and yang, yin and yang transform into the five elements, extreme yin transforms into yang, extreme yang transforms into yin, yin and yang complement each other, energy sinks to the dan tian, embracing the origin and guarding the one...'"
"Not too hard, not too soft, too hard and too soft. I'll teach you a set of Tai Chi boxing, practice it at the time when yin and yang alternate every day, and you can achieve longevity."
The old Taoist said, raising his hand to play Tai Chi, slow to the extreme, and Zhang Jun on the side also imitated him.
After practicing Tai Chi once, Zhang Jun felt that his body had become much lighter and the stagnant blood in his chest had also been unblocked.
Zhang Jun let out a long sigh of turbid air, and at this moment he admired the old Taoist priest even more, prostrating himself in admiration.
"Immortal!"
Zhang Jun said to the smiling old Taoist: "May I become your disciple and learn your art of longevity?"
The old Taoist's face twitched and he shook his head, saying: "Your qualifications are not bad, but unfortunately you're a bit too old."
Zhang Jun said, "Sianzhang's words are wrong. Jiangziya was sixty years old and still entered the door of a sage, while I am only fifty this year, and I consider myself to be no less talented than him, what is not possible?"
The old Taoist stroked his beard and sighed: "Alright, but to enter my sect, you must undergo an assessment. If you pass the assessment, I can make an exception and accept you as a disciple."
"Please come up with a question, Master!" Zhang Jun said confidently.
The old Taoist said with a sigh: "My test is not difficult, as long as you accomplish the two things I just mentioned, I will accept you as my apprentice."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Jun was overjoyed and said: "I shall obey the immortal's instructions!"
The old Taoist laughed "haha" and walked towards the outside of the forest, saying as he walked: "Remember, from this moment on, every word and action of yours will be within my perception. If I am not satisfied, you will never have the hope of learning longevity."
The old Taoist had barely finished speaking when he vanished, and Zhang Jun hastily gave chase. However, even after he left the forest and met up with the soldiers, there was no sign of the old Taoist, nor was the little Daoist boy to be seen anywhere.
"Have you seen the immortal elder?"
Zhang Jun asked the soldiers.
The guard hastily replied: "Sir, we have never seen the immortal elder!"
"Indeed, he is a godlike person, a dragon's head but no tail!"
"What will you do with these people, sir?"
The guard pointed at the eight trembling sedan bearers and asked.
Zhang Jun shook his head and said, "Forget it, they also made an honest mistake. Give them some travel expenses and let them go home."
"Thank you, sir!"
Eight bearers were overjoyed as if they had been granted a great amnesty, hastily thanked the guards and took the silver from their hands before quickly leaving.
"Come on, bring over my horse!"
When Zhang Jun was about to ride a horse, the guards did not dare to slack off and quickly led over a sorrel high-headed big horse.
Zhang Jun stroked the horse's head and said, "Old fellow, I haven't ridden you for many years. Today we'll hit the road together!"
Zhang Jun said, turning over and mounting his horse. With a wave of the whip, the sorrel horse let out an angry cry and galloped forward with its four hooves.
The soldiers behind him were suddenly shocked and hastily mounted their horses to pursue closely.
Zhang Jun led his men away, and two figures jumped down from the trees. To their surprise, they were the old Taoist priest and the young Taoist boy who had left earlier.
"Second Uncle, who was that just now?"
The young Taoist asked the old Taoist.
The old Taoist looked at the direction Zhang Jun and others left, took off his Taoist robe, removed his hair bun, tore off his beard, revealing a young face that was slightly immature, it turned out to be Yang Chengye, and that little Taoist boy was Shen Fu.
After listening to Shen Fu's question, Yang Chengye recalled the historical evaluation of Zhang Jun.
Zhang Jun, courtesy name Boying, from Fengxiang Prefecture, was a famous general in the early Southern Song Dynasty, and together with Yue Fei, Han Shizhong and Liu Guangshi, he was known as one of the "Four Generals of the Restoration of the Southern Song".
Zhang Jun was an archer at the age of sixteen and participated in battles against Western Xia during the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song, as well as suppressing peasant uprisings in Shandong and Hebei.
Kang Wang Zhao Gou appointed him as the Grand Marshal of the Army, he immediately led his troops to follow. After Emperor Gaozong Zhao Gou ascended to the throne, he appointed Zhang Jun as the Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Camp's Front Army. During the Miao-Liu Rebellion, he and Han Shizhong were under the command of Zhang Jun, quelling the uprising.
During the Shaoxing period, he suppressed peasant uprisings and rebel generals such as Li Cheng's forces, and blocked the invasion of the pseudo-Qi Liu Yu and the Jin army.
Zhang Jun, along with Yue Fei and Han Shizhong, was known as one of the "Three Great Generals", and his troops were called the "Zhang Family Army".
Later, he first surrendered his military power and was dismissed as the imperial envoy, promoted to Prince of Qinghe Commandery, and participated in the framing of Yue Fei.
Zhang Jun was greedy for wealth and extensively annexed land, with annual rent of 600,000 dan. Emperor Gaozong once visited his home and treated him with great courtesy. Zhang Jun died at the age of 69 and was posthumously titled Xun Wang, with the posthumous name "Zhonglie". He was listed as one of the Seven Princes.
If there is a winner in the "Jingkang shame", the biggest winner is Zhang Jun.
Since Hui and Qin emperors were captured by the Jin people, he was the first to realize that the Northern Song Dynasty was doomed, and the first to propose supporting Emperor Gaozong of Song.
In the second year of Jingkang, the Jin army broke through Bianjing and took away Huizong and Qinzong, and the Northern Song Dynasty perished.
Zhang Jun, with his keen political insight, firmly supported Zhao Gou: "The Grand King is the Emperor's own brother, and the people's hearts are set on him. Today, under heaven, it is not early to establish the great position, there is no way to satisfy people's expectations."
From then on, Zhang Jun became a trusted member of Zhao Gou's faction as the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Guard.
Zhang Jun rushed to Jianghuai, pacified Huaining, and suppressed the armed separatist forces in Zhenjiang, Hangzhou, Lanxi, and Xiu State, opening up a place for the Southern Song court to turn around.
In the autumn of that year, Zhang Jun proposed a strategy for crossing the river to the south: "Now the enemy's momentum is strong, it is advisable to cross the river to the south, take advantage of the river as a natural barrier, train troops and govern, stabilize people's hearts, wait for the national situation to settle, and make a major move without delay."
Soon after, the Jin army marched south, and Zhao Gou arrived in Lin'an, forming a situation of precarious stability.
In April of the 11th year of Shaoxing, Gaozong promoted Zhang Jun and Han Shizhong to Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Military Affairs and Yue Fei as Vice Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Military Affairs under the pretext of rewarding them for their achievements in conquering Gui Prefecture.
Zhang Jun knew that Gaozong and Qin Hui wanted to take control of the military power, so he first requested to hand over the military power of the Proclamation Pacification Commission. Gaozong and Qin Hui took advantage of the situation to abolish the Three Proclamation Pacification Commissions and also took away the military power from Han Shizhong and Yue Fei.
Zhang Jun assisted Qin Hui in implementing the policy of appeasement with Jin, and followed Qin Hui to fabricate evidence, leading to Yue Fei's wrongful imprisonment.
Zhang Jun died, and Emperor Gaozong of Song went to mourn: "If it weren't for you, who would have been the first to advocate righteousness? If you had abandoned me, all previous achievements would have been wasted. Your discussions were held in high esteem, and you deeply understood the enemy's situation. Moreover, I heard that tens of thousands of strong soldiers were willing to avenge their country, and with such loyalty, what more could I worry about? The officials said that I treated you too generously, but your aspirations and thoughts only made me think more and work harder."
Zhang Jun spent the first half of his life fighting in the south and north, suppressing peasant uprisings, and made great contributions to the Southern Song Dynasty, becoming a duke. After his death, he was posthumously promoted to prince.
But in his later years he became corrupt and colluded with Qin Hui, contributing to the wrongful imprisonment of Yue Fei and becoming a sinner in history.
Yang Chengye said to Shen Fu, "San Er, do you think that person is a good person or a bad person?"
Shen Fu blinked twice and said, "That old man is always eager to kill people, it's really hateful. Moreover, he has a strong smell of blood on his body, San'er doesn't like him!"
It is often said that children's words are innocent and only those who are inexperienced in worldly affairs can see the essence of things.
Yang Chengye nodded and said, "If this person can keep his original heart, not greedy or corrupt, he will surely hold up a piece of sky for Southern Song. Unfortunately, Southern Song won't be destroyed by Mongolia!"
Shen Fu looked at Yang Chengye with curiosity and asked: "Second Uncle, what are you talking about?"
