Chapter Seventy-Nine: Sudden Change

"Big brother, Master Shu said you can only read 'Yi Jin Jing', and cannot touch other scriptures."

Jue Yuan said to Yang Chengye.

Although Jue Yuan acknowledged Yang Chengye as his elder brother, he had been in the Scripture Storage Pavilion since childhood, accompanying these old monks and being instilled with the idea of protecting scriptures to the point where he regarded these scriptures as more important than his own life.

Otherwise, they would not have died in exhaustion while chasing after Xiangzi and Yin Kesili for the sake of the Lankavatara Sutra.

Now even facing Yang Chengye this brother is not partial.

After hearing Jueyuan's words, Yang Chengye didn't mind and said: "Younger brother, there are too many classics here. Why don't you take out the 'Yi Jin Jing' for me to look at, and I'll return it after I've finished?"

Upon hearing this, he smiled and said: "Alright!"

Jue Yuan quickly walked up to the bookshelf, took out a Buddhist scripture, which was indeed "Yi Jin Jing".

Yi Jing Jin is one of the treasures of Shaolin Temple and also one of the scriptures passed down by Bodhidharma.

The "Yi Jing Jin" has two types: internal work and external work, each with twelve postures. They are: Wei Dui Xian Chui, Zhai Xing Huan Dou, San Pan Luo Di, Chu Zhou Liang Chi, Dao La Jiu Niu Wei, Jiu Gui Ba Ma Dao, Qing Long Tan Zhao, Wo Hu Pu Shi, Da Gong Shuai Shi, Gong Wei Shi, etc.

In the classic "Yi Jin Jing", it represents the orthodox Qi. Any heterodox internal skill that encounters Yi Jin Jing will lose its original effectiveness.

The most powerful descriptions of Yi Jin Jing are in "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils" and "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer". In "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils", Sweeper Monk unknowingly practiced Yi Jin Jing and became one of the top masters among Jin Yong's characters.

In the Laughing in the Wind novel, Fang Zheng is a genuine Shaolin Temple abbot and one of the few masters who can cultivate the Yi Jin Jing to an extremely high level.

Apart from this, no one has truly succeeded in cultivation for thousands of years.

Linghu Chong was able to cultivate the "Yijin Jing", which few people had cultivated in a thousand years, and Yang Chengyu thought there were two possibilities.

One is that when Linghu Chong was practicing the "Easy Muscle Classic", his purpose was completely to treat internal injuries, and not to practice martial arts. This means that in his heart, there was no intention of practicing martial arts.

Second is the "Muscle/Tendon Changing Classic" transmitted by Dharma Master Qiu Chuji to Linghu Chong, which should be a refined and simplified version of the original "Yi Jin Jing".

As a result, the version of "Easy Muscle Meridian" that Linghu Chong cultivated was not the same as the complete version of "Easy Muscle Meridian Divine Power" that Sweeping Monk and Dharma Master Fang Zheng had cultivated. This is similar to the difference between Zhang Wuji's complete version of "Nine Yang Divine Power" and the incomplete versions of "Nine Yang Power" practiced by the Wudang, Emei, and Shaolin schools.

Yang Chengye sat on the ground, carefully flipping through "Yi Jin Jing", casting aside miscellaneous thoughts, not treating "Yi Jin Jing" as a martial arts classic, but rather assuming himself to be a weak and sickly scholar with no martial arts skills, solely for the purpose of treating his own illness.

This point is very similar to Linghu Chong's.

Yang Chengye read each word slowly and carefully, reading each sentence several times, deeply imprinting every single character in his mind.

Yuè was not going to disturb Yang Chengye, but instead quietly flipped through the scriptures in his hand.

Yang Chengye read through the whole night until dawn broke, only then did he close the scripture and rub his somewhat aching head.

Yang Chengye got up and saw Jueyuan curled up in the corner of the wall, sleeping sweetly, and couldn't help but feel a little guilty.

  "Awakened from afar."

Yang Chengye gently patted Jue Yuan's shoulder.

Jue Yuan opened his eyes and sat up, saying: "Big brother, are you done?"

Seeing Yang Chengye nodding, he asked again: "How does it feel? Is there any gain?"

Yang Chengye smiled bitterly: "The 'Yi Jin Jing' is indeed a classic of Shaolin martial arts, it's abstruse and difficult to understand. For you, I can only force myself to memorize it first, and then slowly digest it."

Yang Chengye had secretly practiced the "Yi Jin Jing", and originally, the "Yi Jin Jing" was a method that could enhance one's internal strength. Now, Yang Chengye slowly released the internal energy from his dantian, and through the transformation of the "Yi Jin Jing", it truly became his own internal energy.

Yang Chengye has already tasted the sweetness and is determined to practice "Yi Jin Jing" diligently without stopping.

Jue Yuan took over the "Yi Jin Jing" handed over by Yang Chengye, put it back on the bookshelf, closed the secret room, and both of them left the scripture pavilion at the same time.

Up until now, Yang Chengyi's first goal in coming to Shaolin Temple has been achieved. As long as he can see Juewu again and bring him back to Lin'an, his mission will be accomplished.

In front of the gate of Zangjing Pavilion, Yang Chengye and Jueyuan stood facing each other.

"Jue Yuan, I've come this time also wanting to pay respects to Master Jue Wu."

Yang Chengye said: "Then I will return to Lin'an with him, or you can come with me?"

Jue Yuan grasped Yang Chengye's arm and said, "Big brother, Master Shifu treated me like a close relative, now that he has closed the death gate, he asked me to stay and guard the scripture pavilion, take care of the scriptures, I have already agreed."

"Besides, I have also developed feelings for the scripture storehouse. All these scriptures are my intimate companions and I am reluctant to leave them."

"If big brother wants to see little brother, he can come at any time."

After listening to Jueyuan's words, Yang Chengye nodded and said: "Since that's the case, as your elder brother, I won't make things difficult for you. When there's a chance, I'll come visit you."

Yang Chengye parted with Jueyuan and returned to his residence, tidied up and went out to find Master Jue Xin, asking if there was any news about enlightenment.

When Yang Chengye walked out of the Zen room, he saw Master Jue Xin hurrying over.

"Master Jue Xin, have you received news about Master Jue Wu?"

Yang Chengye asked: "What is the mind of awareness?"

Upon hearing this, the old monk's face showed a look of sorrow and worry, saying: "Master Yang, I came here specifically to talk to you about your fellow disciple Juewu."

Seeing the unusual expression on Jue Xin Lao Shang's face, Yang Chengye's heart suddenly tightened, and he asked: "Could it be that Master Jue Wu has encountered some trouble?"

Jue Xin Old Master nodded and said, "Jue Wu Shidi encountered the Mo Bei Double Heroes in Yanbei. After a fierce battle, Jue Wu Shidi was severely injured. The Abbot has already sent the first disciple of Luo Han Tang to rescue him."

Yang Chengye hastily asked: "Master, do you know where Master Juewu is currently located?"

Jue Xin Old Master said: "At present, Jue Wu Shixiong is recuperating from his injuries at Yanmen Temple, but it's said that the injury is too severe, and I'm afraid..."

Yang Chengye hastily said: "Master, then I will take my leave first."

Jue Xin Old Monk asked: "Is Master Yang going to Datong Yumen Temple?"

  "Exactly!"

Yang Chengye replied, "Han's old lady is already seriously ill and time is not waiting for me. I must go to the Wild Goose Temple to do my best to save Master Juewu, otherwise it will be a dead end for both of us."

The old monk knew that it was useless to persuade him any more, so he said: "Then I will send a group of monks to escort Master Yang."

Yang Chengye refused: "The master has a heart, but I can go alone, no need to send anyone else, goodbye!"

Yang Chengye finished speaking and returned to his room, took his luggage and left Shaolin Temple, heading in the direction of Datong in the north.
