Chapter Fifty-Five: High Man

What is ghost catching? The term "ghost catching" is unfamiliar yet familiar to many people, and the vast majority of people know about it from movies or TV dramas.

It's always about some ghost or monster causing trouble in a certain place, then a Taoist priest appears, draws a few talismans, and gets rid of the ghost with a few quick moves, after which he is worshiped as a living god.

Dreams are beautiful, reality is cruel.

I had a nightmare last night after cleaning up that corpse, I dreamed that my whole body was covered with maggots, there were small holes all over me, and these maggots crawled around inside my body.

  Then I was scared awake.

I rubbed my head, looked at the time, and it was just over 6 o'clock in the morning. Damn, I was woken up by a nightmare. As a yin-yang master, I've reached an extreme level.

Today is Monday, I got up and packed my things, putting the Raijin wooden sword into my backpack. As for that golden peach wood sword from the village chief, I still don't know what it's for, so I just threw it in my closet, I'll study it slowly when I have time later.

I slung my backpack over my shoulder, ran into my parents' room to say hello, and then headed out the door.

The sky was just slightly bright, and there were no pedestrians on the road. I bought two meat-filled buns at a bun shop near the entrance of my residential area, eating while walking to school.

Just as I was passing by Times Square, I suddenly saw a large crowd of people gathered there, and I didn't know what they were doing.

I upheld our Chinese tradition of loving to watch excitement and hastily ran over.

It's really crowded, I squeezed hard inside and took a look, whoa, it turned out to be two Taoist priests.

The two Taoist priests set up a stall, one of whom was slightly chubby and looked to be in his forties, sat cross-legged in the middle, while the other smaller Taoist priest was busy with chores on the side.

An old man in front of them stretched out his hand, as if he was having his fortune told by this fat Taoist.

I took a look around and found that most of the people surrounding us were elderly women and men. I turned to an old lady next to me and asked, "Auntie, what are these two idiots doing?"

The aunt glared at me and said: "Children shouldn't talk nonsense. This is Master Wang Jinlong, who is opening the altar today. We are all here to listen to his teachings."

What's going on? When did Taoist priests become popular and start setting up altars everywhere? I walked a bit closer and heard that fat Taoist priest, who seemed to be called Wang Jinlong, talking to this old man.

"Old man, you have a wealthy and auspicious fate, but looking at your eight characters and this year's luck, they are in conflict. This year, you will definitely encounter one disaster. If you avoid this disaster, the second half of your life will be peaceful and enjoyable, your children will have smooth careers, and your family members will be healthy and long-lived."

I'm going, this is my trick to fool people. All I do is first praise them for being lucky, then fool them into thinking their luck is bad this year.

It turns out that I've met a fellow practitioner, no, pfft, these two guys have shifty eyes, they're obviously swindlers, how can someone with my upright and righteous energy like me compare to them?

Looks like a couple of scammers, I shook my head and turned around to leave. What's the point of listening to this guy's nonsense? Am I supposed to learn from him how to scam people?

But before I could turn around and leave, this old man asked: "Master Wang, how much money will it take for you to help me?"

"Old man, let me tell you the truth, I'm helping you get through this disaster, but it'll cost me ten years of my own life. Just give me 500,000 and we're good."

"I don't have that much money." The old man hesitated with a puzzled expression.

"This doesn't matter, your family must have a house, sell it and you'll be fine, right? You see, this is not just about you, but also about the luck of your children and grandchildren. Compared to this, a house is nothing." Wang Jinlong started to persuade him.

"This house is our family's lifeblood." The old man was so anxious that he almost cried.

I was originally going to leave, but as soon as I heard it, I suddenly got angry in my heart.

Come on, we're swindlers, no, that's not right, we're fortune tellers who also need to have professional ethics. We cheat people out of some small money, but it doesn't hurt anyone. After all, our line of work is similar to psychologists, making people feel at ease in their hearts. Don't people pay when they see a psychologist too?

But anyway, I couldn't possibly move the foundation of someone's family, like I did with that guy who was a group chairman and 400,000 yuan meant nothing to him.

But this old man's family condition is at most a small well-off family, and this bastard actually wants to cheat the other person's house.

"Hey old man, why don't I help you calculate it?" I walked over, patted the old man's shoulder and said with a smile.

That fat Taoist priest named Wang Jinlong frowned as soon as he heard it, then shouted at the Taoist priests behind him: "Where did this little kid come from? Apprentice."

The fat Taoist finished speaking, and the little Taoist behind him was about to come over and drag me away. I kicked out with one foot and landed a kick right in the Taoist's belly, sending him tumbling to the ground.

Then I rushed up and gave this fat Taoist a slap on the face with an ear scraper, followed by a kick in his belly.

  What the heck is this?

These two guys are also good-for-nothing, no real skills, if they were really Mr. Yin and Yang, their kung fu wouldn't be bad.

This fatty doesn't need to be mentioned, one look and you can tell he's been emptied out by wine and meat. That other Taoist priest looks like he's twenty-four or five years old, thin as a straw mat, I kicked him to the ground with one foot, and now he's still covering his belly and hasn't gotten up yet.

"Don't believe these two guys, they're cheaters!" I shouted at the crowd.

Those people heard it was a scam and let out a burst of hisses, then turned around and left. The old man also quickly turned around and ran away.

Look at that group of people leaving, Wang Jinlong's face also showed anger, scolding: "Little turtle egg, I'm going to call the police! You're hitting people."

"Do you want to call the police? I'll call them too." I took out my phone and dialed Huang's number.

"Hey Huang team, there are two people scamming at Times Square, come and catch them quickly." I hung up the phone after finishing speaking.

This fat Taoist was also huffing and puffing while holding his mobile phone, don't know who he's calling.

Before long, a police car drove up to the roadside of Times Square. Huang ran over and asked: "Xiao Feng, what's wrong?"

"These two scoundrels are deceiving people." I cursed, pointing at these two Taoist priests.

Unexpectedly, Huang's face changed as soon as he saw the two Taoist priests, and he hastily said politely: "Wang Daozhang, what are you doing here? It's a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding."

Huang team then gave me a meaningful glance after finishing speaking.

No, what's going on here? I looked at Huang's expression and asked, "Huang, what's wrong? Were these two Sunzi just scamming us?"

"Xiao Feng, Wang Daochang is a senior member of the Golden Dragon Taoist Temple. How could he possibly engage in such deceitful behavior? Hurry up and apologize!" Huang Du said to me.

Can these two idiots be considered superior? One is a drunkard and the other looks like a drug addict, they are obviously those who are guilty of ten evils and can only eat peanuts during the reform era, how did they become superior?

"Captain Huang, you'd better get this thug under control right away. I've already called Mayor Zhang's secretary. This kind of thug must be arrested and severely punished." Wang Jindong glared at me with a fierce rebuke.
