Chapter Thirty: Fate

Liu Shu saw that this matter could no longer be hidden from us, so he asked his daughter-in-law to close the door first and then told us about the changes in the Liu family over the past few years.

Originally, his foolish older brother was fine, but one day he suddenly had a big fight with the family and ran out of the house. His older brother often quarreled with the family too. However, the family members didn't take him seriously because they thought he wasn't very bright.

But after his brother left, he never came back. Liu Ershu looked for him for several months but couldn't find him. After reporting to the police, the only clue they got was that someone saw his brother getting on a northbound train, and nobody knew where he went.

It's almost been a year, and Liu Ershu didn't dare tell the old lady, he just deceived her, saying that his eldest son had gone out to work. Fortunately, the old lady was advanced in age and believed him.

After finishing speaking, Liu Ershu sighed and said self-reproachingly: "My elder brother's fate is bitter. As his younger brother, I should have the responsibility to take good care of him. After the New Year, I plan to continue searching for him, and I must find my elder brother."

My father and uncles were busy persuading him not to rush. After the New Year, they would have time to accompany him to find it. To say that this matter is really a bit unjust. Mr. Liu had done countless good deeds in his life, why did his own children and grandchildren have to suffer such separation?

But for some reason, I didn't think so. After all, Liu Ershu should be the successor of "Sanqing Bu Suan", no matter how stupid he is, he should be able to calculate his brother's direction specifically. This thing is absolutely not that simple.

But I couldn't bring it up at the dinner table either. After all, the matter of "San Qing Shu" can't be casually revealed. Fortunately, I knew there would still be opportunities.

After lunch, Liu Erbo rested for a while before taking us to sweep our ancestors' tombs in his four-wheeled cart.

The ancestral tomb of our family was chosen by Mr. Liu, located in the midst of a group of mountains. Although it is not considered to be a superior feng shui location, it is still a place where the wind and water are stored, making it the best burial site in this area.

The whole way was bumpy, to say that taking a four-wheeled vehicle is really suffering, I got shaken so much my butt hurts, and it's freezing cold. Fortunately, it wasn't too far, half an hour later we arrived.

I pulled out the withered grass in front of the tomb with my elders, burned paper and kowtowed. I took advantage of the elders' worship of their ancestors to quietly slip away to Liu Ershu's side and whispered to him:

The ancestral temple where the Lingbao is located, six Ding and six Jia oppose it.

The imperial edict is like a purple cloud covering the sky, I will not meet the dragon until the time is right.

What I'm saying is that the poem I recited is the first line of the main text of the "Three Pure Ones Book", which was told to me by Ninth Uncle. All three versions of the Three Pure Ones Book record three poems, and if one day the successors of the Three Pure Ones Book meet, this poem will be the password for meeting. The poem I recited is exactly the one that describes the "Three Pure Ones Incantation".

As expected, Liu Ershu's face changed greatly when he heard this poem. He looked at me with an incredulous gaze. Indeed, it was unbelievable that I, a junior, could recite such a poem. At this time, my elders had finished paying their respects and were packing up. Liu Ershu went forward to help, and after taking two steps, he turned his back to me and said in a low voice:

Must know Tai Qing of Dehua, recognize nine palaces as nine stars.

The next eight trigrams are divided into eight sections, one energy unifies three is orthodox.

As expected! Uncle Liu Er has indeed cultivated the "San Qing Shu"! Now I don't have to worry anymore, I thought on my way back, because I know that even if I don't look for Uncle Liu Er to talk to him, he will take the initiative to find me.

After returning to the Liu family, my elders went to visit distant relatives nearby with money, but I didn't go because I was waiting for Uncle Liu Er to talk to me.

As expected, after Liu Ershu sent my father and the others out of the door, he immediately dispatched Liu Tingting to school, then called me into the inner room and closed the door. He asked me where I learned this poem, so I simply told him about how I got "San Qing Shu", only omitting Ninth Uncle's name.

After listening to my story, Liu Ershu exclaimed: "Old nephew, this is indeed a strange encounter!" I thought to myself, of course it's a strange encounter, who else in this world would believe what I'm saying?

"I asked him, 'Second Uncle, you're also a successor of the Sanqing Book and proficient in divination techniques. Why don't you know my grandfather's current whereabouts? There must be some hidden reason behind this.'"

Liu Shu couldn't deceive me any longer, so he took out two cigarettes, gave one to me and lit the other himself. After taking a deep drag, he told me about the current situation of the Liu family and the truth behind Old Man Liu's disappearance.

Originally, after Mr. Liu saved my grandparents and returned to Mozi Mountain a year later, Mrs. Liu gave birth to Grandpa Liu, who was named "Liu Xi". Because Mr. Liu revealed too many heavenly secrets, as the saying goes, the retribution for revealing heavenly secrets fell on Grandpa Liu Xi's body. Grandpa Liu was born with three souls and seven spirits missing one spirit, which led to his very low IQ, in modern terms, he was a child with low abilities.

Mr. Liu saw the bitter fruit he had planted take effect on his son, and couldn't help but sigh at the heavens, feeling that retribution was not being meted out properly. He made a secret decision then and there: no matter what, he would never again allow the next generation to learn the secret arts of the "Three Pure Ones' Divination". He wanted his next generation to be down-to-earth and practical in their dealings with people. And so he washed his hands of it all, putting aside the title of "Master of Yin and Yang", and from then on no longer helped people divine auspicious days or select lucky sites for them. Moreover, he buried the "Three Pure Ones' Book" under the ancestral altar where they kept their family genealogy, and told Mrs. Liu that from now on, no one in the Liu family was ever to touch this book again.

From then on, Mr. Liu started to eat vegetarian and chant Buddhist scriptures, and from time to time, he would send rice to various families in the village, doing many good deeds. It can be said that the old heaven is still quite discerning, in the third year after Mr. Liu stopped being a fortune teller, Mrs. Liu gave birth to another big fat boy, who was Liu Er Ye. Liu Er Ye was born white and fat, weighing over six pounds at birth, and was very healthy.

Mr. Liu was overjoyed and, in order to ensure the child's health and well-being, he gave him the name "Quan", which indeed brought good fortune as Liu Quan grew up strong and healthy.

Two years later, Mr. Liu passed away. Before his death, he had a premonition and had instructed everything in the house a month ago. He chose a good burial site for himself and told his wife not to be sad, saying that it was all fate. On that day, he asked his wife to prepare a table of wine and dishes, put on his funeral clothes, and then asked her to accompany him to drink the last glass of wine together. After drinking the last glass of wine with tears in her eyes, Mr. Liu closed his eyes and passed away.

Liu's life was indeed that of a remarkable figure, with a lifetime of integrity and honor. Even his death from excessive drinking was consistent with Mr. Liu's usual style.

The villagers nearby all came to see Mr. Liu off when he was buried because they had all received kindness from him at ordinary times, so almost every family came to see him off when Mr. Liu was buried.

Years later, Liu Xi and Liu Quan grew up to school age. Liu Xi was born with intellectual disability and couldn't attend school, so he stayed at home and wandered around. However, heaven sometimes likes to play tricks on people. Although Liu Xi had a low IQ, he was born with an unusual physique. His right eye pupil was white, looking like cataracts from afar, but who would have known that such an eye was one of the rare 'yin eyes' in the world, also known as 'bad luck eyes'.

It is said that this eye can't see anything during the day, just like a blind man, but as soon as the sun sets, it can see everything clearly. All the gods and ghosts within three miles are under his gaze. It's such an eye that many Taoist practitioners dream of, but now it has been reborn into a mentally handicapped person. So Liu Xi started dealing with ghosts and monsters from childhood, and because of his low intelligence, others thought he was talking to himself when they saw him muttering alone, thinking the child had gone crazy again.

Liu's wife kept her promise to her husband and never mentioned the matter of the ancestral "San Qing Shu" to their children, but until Liu Xi was 14 years old, one night he suddenly saw a man with a yellow hat floating in through the window. Foolish Liu Xi went forward and struck up a conversation with him, asking who he was.

The man said to Liu Xi: "Who I am is not important, but I know your family has a treasure. Why don't you take it out?" Liu Xi asked him foolishly: "What treasure? How do I not know?"

The man pointed to the house where his ancestors' memorial tablets were worshipped and said to Liu Xi: "That treasure is buried in that house, you can go take a look tomorrow." After finishing speaking, he disappeared.

Liu Xi went to the house the next day and really found a treasure, which was a book wrapped in oilcloth under the altar. However, Liu Xi had never been to school and his low IQ didn't know what this book was for. He could only wait until his younger brother Liu Quan came home from school, after dinner, when the two brothers went out to play, he showed the book to Liu Quan and asked him what it was.

Liu Quan took a look at the tattered book, and on its cover were six large characters written in seal script. Due to Liu Quan's innate cleverness and the many ancient books left behind by Mr. Liu at home, he had recognized many rare characters since childhood. He told Liu Xi that this book was called "The Three Pure Ones' Book of Heaven".

Liu Xi excitedly told Liu Quan about what he saw last night and said it was a treasure. He asked him to read it out loud. Liu Quan was also very curious, so he opened the first page and read aloud to his foolish brother: "The Divination Chapter".

As for how profound and mysterious the "Three Pure Ones" book is, it's not something that these two half-grown kids can understand. However, this book seems to have some kind of magical power, Liu Quan couldn't fully comprehend it but was deeply attracted to its content. He probably understood that it's a book for divination and thought it was very interesting.

While Liu Xi listened to the words he didn't understand being read by his brother, his mind was also at a loss, as if many inexplicable patterns appeared, like Tai Chi Bagua, and also like the multitude of living things. He couldn't help but exclaim how fun it was.

So the two brothers decided not to let anyone know and came to read this book every night from then on.
