With a backhand blow using all my might, it ended up being for naught, and by the time I turned around again, there was no sign of that thing. I struggled to get up, my head in disarray, damn it, what exactly was that thing that attacked me just now!?
Based on the feeling just now, it seems to be a human-shaped thing. Could it be a night fox? No, if it were a night fox, the effect of 'Ding You Wen Gong Lu Fu' should not have expired yet. In theory, I should be able to see it, but in the blink of an eye, it actually disappeared! This is too strange.
Although I was wearing thick clothes, the pain on my back was still so intense. Damn it, I cursed secretly: such a despicable thing, sneaking up from behind and striking with deadly force.
I gazed out at the snowy ground, and suddenly several footprints appeared behind me out of thin air. I had no idea how they got there, so I quickly turned off my phone. Damn it, this thing is probably not a benevolent entity after all. It's likely similar to the Wutong God from Mirror Lake, something that can't be seen with ordinary methods. Now the enemy is in hiding, and I'm out in the open. This is really troublesome.
But then I thought again, it's not right. After the Five Elements God reduced the flames, you should still be able to see its outline, but why can't I see that thing at all now?
It seems that the token has become invalid again. Thinking of this, I quickly took out another "Ding You Wen Public Road Token" from my bag, placed it on my forehead, and whispered a sentence "Ji Ji Ru Lv Ling".
With a loud "bang", the "Ding You Wen Gong Lu Fu" took effect again, I quickly turned around to look around, but still couldn't see anything! I was suddenly stunned, how could this be? Such a strange thing made me feel cold sweat on my back again.
Just as I was at a loss, another severe pain came from my back. Ah! It's this move again! Fortunately, I had just been hit and my whole body was in a tense state, so I endured the pain and only leaned forward slightly before standing still. I immediately turned around to look, but due to the darkness, I could only see a vague figure behind me, which was what hit me.
"Good grief, I'm furious! Thinking about it, I've been too careless and let the same trick be played on me twice. At this point, I don't care what it is anymore, I quickly raised the talisman in my hand and threw it at it."
But all I saw was that the black shadow fluttered a few times and then suddenly disappeared out of thin air! Just like a big change in a living person, it was gone in an instant. When I saw it at the time, I was stunned. What is this?
I just felt that the figure didn't have any evil aura, from this I can infer that it's definitely not a good thing, 100% is an evil spirit. But what exactly is it? It suddenly appeared out of thin air and then disappeared into thin air again. My heart was instantly in disarray, how can we fight this?
Normally, it should still be around me, just that I can't see it. It must be waiting for the moment when I let my guard down to continue sneaking up on me from behind. Damn it, playing dirty with me.
My back was burning with pain, I knew that if it hit me a few more times, I would definitely fall down. I had to think of a way, couldn't always be so passive. Thinking and thinking again, were there any methods in those folk stories and the demon-subduing experiences that Ninth Uncle told me about that could deal with this kind of disappearing technique?
Never mind, when people are in danger, they often think of a solution quickly. I remembered a story that Ninth Uncle told me a few months ago.
That was still the story of Master Jing's younger days, wasn't it? Master Jing's ancestor, Han You, was in the business of selling medicinal herbs. When he was young, he once went alone to a distant place to purchase medicinal herbs. On his way, he passed through a small town, where he met a Taoist priest who seemed to have a pair of eyes that could see into the future. The priest saw that Han You's face had turned pale and had an ominous aura, and told him that within ten days, there would certainly be a disaster involving bloodshed.
The Taoist saw that Han You didn't believe him and wasn't taking his money, so he just sighed and said: "Donor, I have no ill intentions, it's just that I see you will definitely encounter disaster today, so I'm trying to advise you kindly. Since you don't believe me, then listen to these two words from me."
Han You was in a hurry and didn't have the time to listen to the old Taoist's nonsense, so he ignored him and turned around to leave. He only heard the old Taoist say behind him: "Deep mountains hide houses, don't stay overnight, at night on the dike, you will be on top. If you encounter evil spirits, don't be afraid, wear shoes backwards, wise people understand. I, the poor Taoist, will be staying at the Xincheng Inn in this town for the next two days, if you, donor, encounter any trouble, you can come back and find me."
Han You ignored him, thinking that the old Taoist was crazy, and then headed towards the outskirts of town. He is now rushing to the next town to purchase medicinal materials, but unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and fog suddenly rose while walking on the mountain road. Han You, who was traveling in the fog, immediately lost his direction and could only continue walking forward without distinguishing between front and back.
It's been a long time since he didn't leave the mountain, and as the sky darkened, the fog still hadn't dispersed. If he were to camp outdoors in this desolate wilderness, he would surely be attacked by wild beasts at night. Just as he was worried, he suddenly heard what sounded like the tolling of a bell coming from the top of the mountain.
He was overjoyed, thinking that it must be a temple on the mountain. Generally, temples would let travelers stay overnight and also have a free vegetarian meal to eat. But he didn't know why he suddenly thought of the Taoist priest's words, and his heart couldn't help but feel some apprehension. However, now that he was both hungry and thirsty, he didn't worry about it too much, and followed the sound of the bell as he walked over.
As expected, there was indeed a small temple on the nearby mountain, where four or five monks received him and arranged for him to stay in the wing room. Due to fatigue from the day's journey, Han You went to bed early.
He didn't know that danger had slowly crept in, and it was also the fate of Han You's life. At night, he woke up dazedly, feeling very cold, so he casually grabbed a quilt to cover himself. However, as soon as he covered himself with the quilt, he smelled a strong musty smell. When he looked at the quilt again, it had already grown mold and mildew on its surface, which was fine when he fell asleep earlier. He felt a wave of nausea and kicked the quilt away. Suddenly, he noticed that something seemed to be hanging from the beam above, swaying back and forth in front of him, slowly stretching downwards.
As he took a closer look, he was frightened out of his wits. It was clearly a hangman's noose! And it was slowly creeping towards him!
Han You was so frightened that he didn't dare to make any sound, and suddenly remembered the old Taoist's words: "Deep mountains hide houses, don't stay in them at night, and be careful of the ridgepole on the beam. If you encounter evil spirits, don't be afraid, just wear your shoes backwards and you'll be a wise man." So he immediately jumped out of bed and put his left and right shoes on backwards.
Because the place was too eerie, he didn't dare to stay any longer. He quickly packed up his things and ran out, and when he turned back to look at the temple from outside, he was so scared that he wet his pants. Under the moonlight, he saw that the temple had changed beyond recognition. It looked dilapidated and abandoned, as if no one had lived there for a long time. Moreover, inside the temple, five corpses were hanging straight up, wearing monk's robes, apparently the same monks who had received him earlier, but now they were just skeletons.
He ran down the mountain with a frightened soul, and after putting on his shoes backwards, the surrounding fog actually dispersed. It wasn't until then that he realized the old Taoist was a high-ranking person, so he hurriedly ran in the direction of the town they were at previously.
As dawn broke, he ran into town and found the Taoist priest in an inn. The priest took one look at him and already had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
After listening to Han You's panting speech, the old Taoist said to Han You: "This is probably a mountain demon that has become a local deity. Those monks were probably killed by it, and now it wants to harm you."
Han You hastily knelt down before the old Taoist and begged him to save his life.
The old Taoist said to Han You, "This demon can use the technique of confusing the eyes with a mirage, and I'm afraid no one else can see its true form. Moreover, it will definitely come again tonight to harm you. Why don't you stay here today and wait until night when it comes? I'll take care of it then."
He then gave Han You a yellow talisman, telling him to bring it with him when he slept that night. As for the rest, he would take care of it himself. Han You took the talisman and thanked the Taoist priest a thousand times over.
Let's not mention the daytime for now. After nightfall, Han You couldn't sleep no matter what, thinking that the old Taoist was just next door and shouldn't be in too much danger. Before long, it had just struck three o'clock, when suddenly the door creaked open by itself, a chill wind blowing in, scaring Han You so badly he nearly lost his soul. However, the Taoist had instructed him not to move no matter what, so he could only lie there motionless.
That cold air was getting closer and closer, as if it was going to freeze him solid. Just then, a loud shout came from the doorway: "Hurry up like an imperial decree!!!" It was the Taoist priest who had shouted out.
Only to see Han You's body suddenly emit a ray of light, and the cold air was also bounced off. It seemed to want to escape through the window. At this time, only to see that the Taoist had already rushed in, he cut his palm with a dagger and swung it towards the window, instantly fresh blood splashed onto the cold air's body.
After being stained with blood, the cold air had nowhere to hide. Only in the room, there were a few drops of blood floating and moving. The Taoist priest then seized the opportunity, after shouting "Quickly as if by order", a yellow talisman was slapped on top, ending that shape-shifting monster. Only after a few mournful cries, a dead monkey lay on the ground.
Han You then had a new perspective on the things of this world, so he returned home, disregarding his family's opposition, and resolutely packed his bags to come to that Taoist temple to worship that Taoist as his master.
The book returned to its rightful owner, and I thought of the story of this ancestor. Suddenly, a brilliant idea struck me - yes, I can try using blood! Blood is the foundation of human life, it's the fuel for the three lamps of clarity. If I can get some of that thing's blood on my body, no matter how it tries to hide, I'll be able to find it through the blood on its body!
So I bit down hard on my poor left index finger again. But just as I put my finger in my mouth, a sharp pain suddenly came back to my lower back. Ah, it's coming!
It was as if I had been kicked in the back, and out of habit, I rushed forward again. Due to the sudden fright, my teeth were stimulated, and with a burst of force, I almost bit my fingers off, as the saying goes, "the index finger is connected to the heart", it hurt me.
But at such a critical moment, I couldn't afford to indulge in self-pity. As soon as I got on the snowy ground, I rolled with the momentum and then flicked my left index finger towards that dark shadow.
