Chapter 10

  The next day...

Dagron, Abyss and their friends set out for Mt. Thunderstrike to find and free Thunderwing, the third and final dragon titan.

"Alright, Mt. Thunderstrike. What do we know" Firefly asked.

"For starters, a very tall and forested mountain plagued with bad weather rain and, occasionally, rock and mudslides" said

"Noted, Dagron. Anything else" Smokescreen asked him.

"The biggest danger is that last time we checked, it's hotspot for griffins" he replied.

"That's right! So everyone stick together and be careful" said Abyss.

Their friends all nodded silently and flew forward. After flying for a while, they spotted a big mountain in the far distance, forested with a lot of trees and a few dozen clearings. The sky wasn't clear, but it wasn't dark either.

"Alright, we're here. What now" Hunterbolt asked.

"Doomfire said that we need to head to the top of the mountain. That there is a big cave entrance that'll take us to a whole section of underground caves" Dagron replied.

"Both him and Quetzalcoatl said that Thunderwing is hibernating in a large cavern deep within the mountain and that those caves can help us get to him" said Abyss.

"Wait, if we fly to the top and there are a lot of griffins around here, won't they spot us" said Icebreaker.

"Good point, Icebreaker. We land in a clearing and push through on foot. At least until we get out of the forest and/or make sure there aren't any griffons around" said Dagron.

Everyone else nodded in agreement and they all landed in a clearing.

"Alright, let's go. Don't take this as a bad thing, guys. Think of it as...getting some exercise and stretching" said Dagron.

"Sure, we're all OK with that" said Hunterbolt.

With that, they all began making their way up the mountain throughout the forest. After walking for a while, they noticed that the forest wasn't as inhabited as they thought.

"Not a lot of large wild life" said Frost.

"That we haven't seen yet" said Abyss.

"Yeah, keep your eyes open. Anything could appear from out of nowhere" said Groundspliter.

They continued walking until they reached a big open clearing and heard something up ahead of them in the brush.

"Listen, do you all heard that" Dagron whispered.

Everyone stopped moving, became silent and listened. It sounded like rustling up ahead of them and it was getting louder. That also meant that whatever was making that rustling, was also getting closer. They all braced themselves, expecting it to be a griffin or two. A few seconds later, several dozen deer burst through the brush and ran by them all.

"They're in a hurry" said Dagron.

"What could have spooked them" Hunterbolt asked.

That was when Smokescreen and Firefly both looked up and their eyes widened at what they saw.

  "Griffins" Smokescreen shouted.

The others all turned around and looked up, only to see four griffins shrieking and diving at them.

  "Everyone, scatter" said Abyss.

They all scattered around the clearings as the griffins all slammed down, creating a small cloud of dust on impact.

"Time to fight some angry birds" said Firefly.

Griffins were very aggressive creatures, but not very intelligent. Even when it seemed like the odds were against them, they would still choose fight over flight. In this case, it's four griffins against ten dragons, two of which were the King and Queen of dragons.

The first griffin charged at Dagron and Abyss and tried to take swipes at them with its claws, only for Hunterbolt to ram into its side with his shoulder. That sent the griffin stumbling back and falling to the ground, face first. Before it could get up, Frost quickly used her ice blast to freeze it in place. By the end, only it's head, tail and a part of its wings were the only things not frozen.

"Maybe now you'll stay put" said Frost.

It shrieked and tried to move and free itself, but couldn't. The second griffin tried to attack Icebreaker and Groundspliter by dashing at them with its claws and beak wide opened, only for Groundspliter to swing her tail at it and smack it square in the face. The blow to the head sent it flying and hitting the ground with a big thud, knocking it out. Frost quickly used her ice blast and froze that griffin as well.

The third griffin tried to take swipes at Smokescreen with its claws, but he managed to avoid them. He avoided all of its swipes at him, but the last swipe caused him to stumble and fall backwards. He looked up and saw it raising its right claw at him, ready to strike him.

  BLAST!

Suddenly, a sonic blast hit it in the back and sent it flying. Smokescreen looked back and saw Bansha approaching, glaring and growling menacingly at the griffin.

"Claws off, you overgrown chicken" she said.

She then looked down at Smokescreen and smiled.

  "You OK" she asked him.

  Smokescreen smiled.

  "I am now" he said.

Bansha giggled as Smokescreen got up and they looked eye to eye, smiling. The griffin Bansha shot got up, looked back at the pair and shrieked. That got their attention as they both looked at it, glared and growled. That was when Firefly jumped onto the griffin's back, activated his ability and set himself on fire. The griffin shrieked in agony as Firefly ran around it and then kicked it away. As it rolled around on the ground, trying to put itself out, Frost hit it with an ice blast and froze it like the previous two griffins. After seeing that, Firefly looked back at his cousin and Bansha.

"Did I interrupt something between you two" he asked.

"Oh, uh..." Bansha was cut off.

"No, nothing at all, cousin" Smokescreen replied.

"If you say so" said Firefly.

He then looked away and smiled. Firefly knew, but didn't want to make his cousin and his future girlfriend uncomfortable. The fourth griffin was up against Acidstorm and he turned invisible in front of it. The griffin immediately became confused, looking all around it to see where the dragon in front of it had went. While invisible, Acidstorm managed to get behind it and smacked it in the back. That sent it down on all fours and hitting the ground, face first. Acidstorm flew back, creating space between himself and the griffin. He turned visible again as it got up, turned around and saw him.

It shrieked furiously at him when suddenly...

  BLAST!

Its shriek became one of pain as a green fireball hit it in the back. Acidstorm, Dagron, Abyss and the others were all confused where that came from before the fourth and final griffin fell to the ground, defeated.

"Where did that come from" Acidstorm asked.

Dagron quickly looked around and everyone was present, so it wasn't any of them. Frost stepped forward and froze the last griffin in place, before anything else happened. She stumbled, exhausted, but Hunterbolt caught her.

  "You OK" he asked her.

  She smiled.

  "I am now" she replied.

Hunterbolt smiled as Dagron and Abyss stepped forward and looked around, trying to see where that fireball came from.

"Hello? Is someone there" Abyss called out.

"It's alright, you can come out" Abyss called out.

A few seconds later, the trees shook as a female dragon with dark blue scales and green stripes stepped and, surprisingly, uncamouflaged part of herself.

  "Uh, hello there" said Dagron.

  "You are" Abyss asked.

The female dragon bowed down in front of her and Dagron.

"Greeting, your majesties. I am Jade" she replied.

"Hello, Jade, what are you doing here" Abyss asked her.

"After word had gotten to all of us that we've been imprisoned for who knows how long, I decided to set out and see what has changed here in Mt. Thunderstrike. I liked it so much I decided to camp out here for a while" she replied.

  Dagron sighed.

"You shouldn't be here. Places like this aren't safe for dragons, especially with griffins like this flying around" he said.

"Besides these four, I haven't seen a single other griffin" said Jade.

"Still, you shouldn't have come here on your own" said Abyss.

"If I may ask, what brings you of all dragons here" Jade asked them.

  "Looking a titan" Firefly replied.

  "A titan" Jade asked, confused.

"It's a long story, but to summarize – the legend of the titans is true. We currently have two of them near the Isle acting as guardians and we're here looking for the last one" Dagron replied.

Jade was taken aback, not knowing what to say.

"Since you've been here for a while, we're currently looking for an entrance to a big cave. You wouldn't happen to know where that is" Abyss asked her.

"T-there's one at the top of the mountain. It goes deep into a big system of caves, tunnels and large caverns" she replied.

"Is it safe for us to fly up there or are there more griffins that can probably spot us" Dagron asked her.

"Like I said, besides these four, I haven't seen any other griffins" she replied.

"In that case, we can all fly up there quickly" said Abyss.

"Good thing, cause I don't know how long the ice will hold these griffins" said Frost.

Everyone looked at the four frozen griffins and saw that two of them were still conscious and trying to break free while the other two still uncurious.

"OK, everyone, let's go" said Dagron.

"I-I'll take us to the cave" said Jade.

  "Lead the way" said Abyss.

They all spread their wings and took off towards the top of the mountain...just as the ice containing one of the frozen conscious griffins began to crack.
