The Gala Night

Nolan was working late when Freya came to his cabin, as usual looking poised in her formal clothes. She had a purple invite in her hand and placed it before him as she sat opposite him. He took it in his hand; it seemed a special kind of invitation exuding vibrancy and elegance. “This is an invitation I received for an important event.” Nolan nodded as his eyes skimmed over the contents. “The guests must take a plus one. Usually, Jasper goes with me, but he’s busy, so would you be willing to accompany me?” she explained. “As your secretary, it’s natural for me to agree with you, particularly in a situation like this,” he gently replied. “I did not ask you because you are my secretary.” She got up from her chair with a small smile. “Silly,” she muttered affectionately as she left the room. Boom... he felt as if his heart was drumming, and his visage beautified by the pink hue.

Freya decided that they’d shop together and she would help Nolan choose his outfit. She helped him to choose a suit that matched the event's opulence. Freya, herself, however, just bought the accessories; Nolan was slightly curious about what she would be wearing, but one thing was certain: she would look beautiful.

On the eve of the event, Nolan, all dressed up, went to the office; the cab driver looked at him oddly, making him embarrassed. Freya’s car picked him up from the office; both sat in the back seat. Nolan was mesmerised by her. They got off at the designated area, and Nolan offered his arm, and they both entered the hall poised. Nolan was dressed in a charcoal three-piece suit, an ice-blue crisp shirt, a textured silver tie, minimal silver cuff links, and a classic watch, and his blond hair was slightly tousled. While Freya wore an ankle-length ice blue dress, the sleeves of which were divided into three sections, a cream pearl chain around the waist, and the back adorned with delicate strings to custom fit that cinches the waist gently. She held a pearl-inspired clutch, her hair styled in loose curls and soft makeup. The people gazed at them as they entered, their exquisite looks making them one of the event's highlights. The night of the charity gala marked a turning point. Under crystal chandeliers and amid soft violin music, their carefully maintained professional boundaries began to blur. Their matching outfits—his charcoal suit and her ice-blue gown—spoke of harmony beyond mere coincidence.

Freya met various people and introduced him as a friend; Nolan noticed some of them exchanging glances as they saw them together. He helped her block some drinks as well. It was not until a good friend of Freya came up to them and examined him head to toe and then subtly teased Freya that Nolan realised they were wearing matching outfits and people considered him Freya’s real partner.

The event ended quite late. Nolan was tired, and by the time they were back in the car, he slumped on the seat, loosening his tie until he sensed a fiery gaze at him. His blue eyes widened in confusion, questioning why Freya looked a little mad. “Is something the matter?” he cautiously asked her. “Your presence is too captivating,” she exclaimed. Nolan was stunned at her compliment. “The women were eyeing you.” There was a hint of jealousy in her voice. He was even more bedazzled. He gazed at her, his eyes revealing intimacy, and before he could speak, the driver coughed, and they ended up sitting silently. When they dropped him at his house, Nolan invited her inside.
