Chapter 16

Hot water ran down Emil's face, washing over his naked body. He needed a moment to relax, to refresh himself. They were beginning a new phase behind a secure fence. The group conditioned themselves in their new surroundings while Emil, knowing the place inside out, showered in the school locker room. He had the opportunity to be left alone with his dark thoughts. The apocalypse had changed him, destroyed his old perception of the world. He realized that murder was no longer a terrible thing for him. He recalled his dead father, however, instead of tears of despair there was anger. Unrelenting anger, growing with each passing second.

"This was not an accident or a killing in self-defense." In front of his eyes he saw scenes from a few hours back. He couldn't get the sight of a transformed Miko?aj with gunshot wounds out of his head. "My father was murdered in cold blood. I don't know who did it, but I will kill him..."

The boy took scissors in his hand. Standing in front of the mirror, he grabbed his hair and stared at it for a long moment. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He felt like crying, tears gathered in his eyes. He sighed deeply, feeling unimaginable mental pain. Finally, he calmed his heartbeat and trimmed his hair, shortening it to his shoulders. His calm was disturbed a moment later by Kaja, exultantly running into the locker room, ignoring the fact that her brother had nothing on. The boy looked out of the corner of his eye at the girl puzzled, washing and rinsing his hair.

  Stolen story; please report.

"What is it about?" He asked.

  "Dawid is alive!"

The smile did not disappear from Kaja's face. Emil, for his part, was shocked, stunned. He immediately turned off the water and began to get dressed, Kaja at that time came out of the locker room. The boy ran out of the locker room, asking where he was. They ran together in front of the building, to the main gate. He was there, he saw him. Everyone close to him, including a group from the school. Emil stopped, disbelieving. It was the second time that day he had seen the ghost. He noticed, however, that Dawid was not in one piece. The man was missing an eyeball, but he seemed, despite the pain, to ignore it. He wasn't bleeding, he handled the situation on his own, which meant that Dawid had to follow them all the way until he reached the lab from where Aleksander showed him the final point of the journey.

  "Howdy, long time no see!"

  "...Really?"

"Oh, yes. I'm alive and well."
