Chapter Fourteen: Brothers

  ♂?,,

An arrow, piercing through the air. The target, directly aimed at Liu Feng's back heart.

After boarding the ship, Liu Feng's vigilance weakened, and this sudden arrow had an extremely strong force. When Liu Feng heard the warning, the sharp sound of the arrowhead tearing through the air had already whizzed by.

It seemed that dodging was no longer possible, and Liu Feng, who had suddenly come to his senses, quickly turned his body sideways just as a "puff" sound reached his ears, the sound of an arrow piercing flesh.

The one who was hit by the arrow was not him.

As he turned back, Liu Qi's tall figure suddenly appeared in front of him, and a sharp arrow hit his left shoulder.

Liu Feng was shocked. The young man in front of him, who was not much older than himself and whom he called brother, actually had no blood relation with him at all, nor even a nodding acquaintance.

How could such an ordinary person have the courage to sacrifice himself to block this arrow for his own sake?

Liu Feng struggled out of his shock and confusion, drew his sword and rushed forward, taking a step to shield Liu Qi, and cried out in an uncomprehensible tone: "Elder brother, have you gone mad? Why do you want to block the arrows for me?"

Liu Qi's pale face actually rose with a smile, panting and saying: "I won't block this arrow, how can I be worthy of being called brother."

As he spoke, he exerted force in his hand and pulled out the arrow that had been embedded in his flesh and blood. Although it was extremely painful, he didn't even let out a groan, merely curling up his lips.

That simple sentence instantly stirred up a wave of emotion in Liu Feng's heart, a kind of long-lost, heartfelt feeling.

He took the blood-stained sword from Liu Qi's hand, snatched a bow from a soldier, drew the bow like a new moon, and shot arrows like shooting stars. With a flick of his finger, a crimson electric light burst out against the vast rain of arrows, hitting an enemy's forehead on the shore.

"Good archery!" Liu Qi covered his bleeding wound and cheered loudly.

"This arrow is considered to be revenge for my brother. Let's go, we'll talk after we get off the boat." Liu Feng supported Liu Qi with one hand and held Huang Yue Mei with the other, and they retreated into the cabin.

The warship sailed away from the water fortress, gradually leaving the enemy's bow and crossbow range. The entire Hanjin Ferry's land and water camps were already in a state of complete chaos, with tents reduced to ashes in the raging flames, scattered limbs and body parts stretching from the land to the river, and the surface of the river within dozens of meters along the shore was covered with a thin layer of bloody pollution, which, under the dim sunlight, seemed like a faint flame burning.

The Hu Bao cavalry's offensive was nearing its end, and the Liu family army's counterattack had just begun. After avoiding the impact of the Hu Bao cavalry, they retreated to the warships in the river and merged with the main fleet that was training in the river, forming an attacking formation and approaching Hanjin Ferry again.

This time, Liu Qi came from Jiangxia with nearly 3,000 soldiers and horses and more than 100 warships. Together with the naval forces under Guan Yu's command, they had a total strength of nearly 10,000 men and almost 400 warships. With such a considerable army, if it weren't for the surprise attack by the Tiger and Leopard Riders, they would not have suffered this defeat.

At this moment, when Liu's army was about to counterattack, the Hu Bao riders clearly realized they were no match for them. They quickly retreated from the shore, trying to get as far away as possible from the long-range attacks of the enemy ships' bows and crossbows. After setting fires everywhere, turning the Hanjin Port into a sea of flames, over a thousand elite cavalrymen withdrew southwest towards Jiangling under the cover of the fire.

Liu Bei, who had just transferred back to Guan Yu's flagship, stood on the deck facing the river, silently gazing at the sea of flames burning on the shore. In his eyes, a fierce flame was also flickering, and his two whiskers were slightly fluttering with the twitching of the corners of his mouth.

"Big brother, it's my fault. I didn't arrange the scouts properly and allowed the enemy to launch a surprise attack successfully." Guan Yu said with a clenched fist behind him, his proud demeanor unwavering even as he took responsibility.

Liu Bei raised his hand, slightly shaking the tattered sleeve of his robe which had been torn when he hastily boarded the ship. He signaled to Guan Yu that there was no need for him to blame himself: "The cunning Cao's scheme is something that nobody in the world can match; this is Heaven's will, not something that human power can reverse."

Guan Yu took a step forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with Liu Bei, gazing out at the sea of flames and blood that was Hanjin Harbor: "Now that Hanjin Port is lost, our last foothold is gone. What should we do next, big brother?"

Liu Bei's mouth corners slightly raised, and a hint of cunning flashed in his eyes: "Heaven will give it to us, but first, we must take it. Issue the order for the army to march south to Jiangxia."

The sun sets in the west, and night falls, but the great fire on the Han River illuminates the surrounding area for miles around as if it were still daytime. In the light of the flames, four hundred large and small warships turn their bows, cutting through the wind and waves, and sail south along the Han River with a loud splash.

  Cabin

  "Don't... save me... save me..."

Huang Yue Mei, who was in a daze on the bed, started talking nonsense again, and it seemed that her dream had returned to the thrilling scene of Hanjin Ferry. As she spoke, her hands kept grasping at something in the air from time to time, just like a drowning person desperately trying to grab a lifesaving straw.

Looking at her pitiful appearance, Liu Feng shook his head and sighed softly: Fortunately, she followed the naval forces southward. If she had experienced the terrifying scene of Changban Slope, it's possible that she might have been frightened into a nervous breakdown.

His back was aching again, which made him lose the mood to care about Huang Yue Mei's suffering in his nightmare. He carefully opened his robe and gently touched the wound on his back with his hand, and his fingers were instantly stained with a piece of fresh blood.

"Damn it, I must have swung the knife too hard on the bridge just now and burst the wound open."

Liu Feng stood up, wearing his upper garment, intending to go out and call for someone to help him re-dress his wound. Just as he turned around and was about to open the door, he suddenly heard a sharp cry of "Ah".

The sudden scream startled him, and when he turned his head sharply, Huang Yue Mei was sitting there with her eyes wide open, flashing a terrified expression, her face as pale as wall ash, cold sweat dripping from her forehead.

"Wake up." Liu Feng walked back and forth, forgetting that he was still in his body, standing carelessly in front of Huang Yue Mei.

Her heaving bosom rose and fell with rapid breathing, and it was some time before her spirit awakened from the fright of her dream.

When she raised her head and saw Liu Feng, the autumn water-like eyes instantly filled with a grateful color. She suddenly got down from the bed and knelt in front of Liu Feng: "Thank you, young master, for saving my life."

It seems that her brain has not been frightened into a mess and she has not forgotten who pulled her back from the gates of hell.

Liu Feng bent down and gently helped her up, his handsome face showing a faint smile: "We're all family, no need to be so polite."

Huang Yue raised her head, and her eyes met his chest. The ancient bronze-colored healthy skin tone, the firm and iron-like muscles all entered her line of sight. Her heart suddenly moved, and a flush rose to her face, and she hastily turned her face slightly to the side in embarrassment.
