Chapter 6

It felt so safe, warm, and comfortable. Free wondered who the creature was that she was snuggling with. She didn’t know if it was a boy or girl. She didn’t know what it was. It didn’t matter. She liked the way the creature made her feel. It reminded her of her parents. Was this what she did with them? Was that why she felt so safe, warm, and comfortable?

“What do I call you?” Free asked.

  “It’s Private.”

“Oh, sorry. I won’t ask again.”

The creature laughed. Free could feel its stomach moving along with its warm breath. Did she make the creature smile? She liked that feeling as well. Being safe, warm, comfortable, and making someone smile. She was happy. She hasn’t felt that way since she landed.

“My name is Private. That’s what I’m called.”

Free laughed. She thought it meant it was a private thing, and it was none of her business.

  “Your name is Private?”

  “Yes.”

  “Hi Private.”

“Hi. Do you have a name?”

  “Free.”

  “Thank you. I’ll take it.”

  Free laughed again.

“I meant my name is Free.”

  This time they both laughed.

“Are you a girl or boy?”

  “I’m a boy.”

  “Oh.”

“I’ll follow you wherever you go.”

“Thank you. I’m looking for my parents.”

  “Me too. I’ll help you.”
