Chapter 22: The Game of Go

Cao Jing pushed open the door and entered, standing at the entrance without taking another step. Seeing Li Wei, that little girl who looked like she was facing a great enemy, she nodded slightly as a courtesy, her mouth curving up into a gentle arc that softened the contours of her cold face. But this arc disappeared in an instant, and she turned to Chen Er Gou, saying: "Play a few more rounds of chess?"

"Under the wutong tree, playing chess is not bad. I'll help you move the rattan chair and you can help me carry the chess set." As soon as he heard "chess", Chen Ergou suddenly became enthusiastic. He didn't know what level Cao Jingjian was at, but Sun Dage had never let him win a game. Chen Ergou was holding back his breath, wanting to win back both the principal and interest from Cao Jingjian.

"I'll take the chess." Li Wei calmly took the chess from Chen Ergou's hand.

Three people came under the wutong tree, Chen Erdou sat on a small stool, skillfully placing chess pieces, Cao Jingjian leaned against a purple bamboo rattan chair, holding black, she liked to take that "general" from the chessboard and play with it between two fingers.

Chen Ergou, as Lao Tou said, is a ruthless chess player who doesn't fear burning jade and stone together. With a sharp and fierce aura, he presses on relentlessly in the entanglement of the game, never retreating. Cao Qiangying, who seems to be not quite used to Chen Ergou's style, furrowed her brow slightly. Li Weihe and Li Sheng, who liked to sit aside with a bowl to watch chess, were different from each other; she was not interested in chess and only understood the surface, but as she watched Cao Qiangying take down piece after piece on the board, her smile grew brighter, like an early-blooming peony. Cao Qiangying played with the "General" piece, glanced lightly at this little girl who smiled happily like a flower, then looked back at Chen Ergou, who was lowering his head to concentrate on the board, gently swaying in his comfortable purple bamboo chair, quietly waiting for Chen Ergou's next killing move. He truly deserved to be called a ruthless player who often fought with wild boars in the mountains.

This young man, who grew up drinking from the Egunna River and at the age of seven dared to go into the mountains with a wealthy family's son two years his senior to hunt wild animals, eventually carrying back an eyesnake to Zhangjiashan Village, wore a pair of cloth shoes, looked solemn, and took longer and longer to make each move, thinking for more time. Cao Qiangjian's chess style was different from that of Sun Dage, who was steady and calm. She had a subtle and gentle manner, but her moves were decisive and would not cause unnecessary trouble, yet she could turn danger into safety, seeming to yield but never giving Chen Erdou an advantage.

The first game lasted a full thirty minutes, Chen Erdog fought to the last hair, and finally lost tragically. He looked at Li Wei who was watching from the side with a tinge of sadness.

In the second game, Cao Jingyuan suddenly changed her conservative style and engaged in a bloody battle with Chen Ergou on a small part of the chessboard. Her linked horses were still sharp, step by step, and she won the game in 15-16 minutes. Chen Ergou fought to the last soldier, losing again.

The third game was still thrilling, and Chen Erdog, who didn't know what surrender meant, finally couldn't help but let out a sigh. For the third time, he gathered up the pieces and started again. Cao Qiang leaned against the purple bamboo chair, extremely leisurely, playing with the chess piece between his fingers. His face showed no complacency, nor did it show any pretentious humility.

Li Wei was amazed, Old Man Sun's Weiqi was famous in the neighborhood for its strong momentum. Occasionally watching a few games didn't have this kind of atmosphere that made Chen Er Gou applaud. She was just an outsider and couldn't see that Old Man Sun's chess skills had almost turned rotten into magical, completely not needing to use the sharp killing moves on the chessboard to show it off. But Cao Jingjian's chess skills were still beyond Li Wei's imagination. She had originally hoped that Chen Er Gou could kill off this strange woman's sharp aura, and even an immature girl had intuition beyond her imagination. No matter what kind of position Chen Er Gou held in her heart, but the sudden appearance of a stranger made her feel a sense of crisis for no reason. This unexpected guest was obviously not a hundred Wang Yuanyang put together could compare to this dangerous role in Li Wei's eyes.

Li Sheng, that rascal, had already been squatting on the side watching for a while, although he was usually very noisy, but at this time he could basically observe the chess game without speaking, only occasionally making sarcastic remarks after a game ended. Today, however, he surprisingly didn't focus on Chen Er Gou's brutal slaughter, but instead kept glancing left and right at Li Wei and Cao Jingjian, wondering what was going on in his little brain.

  "Continue?" Cao Qiangying asked.

Chen Ergou nodded and arranged the chess pieces for both sides.

"Not going down, three plates a day, not more or less, otherwise the undefeated golden body will be broken and it won't be fun. I want to continue Sun's good tradition and win all the way." Cao Qian blinked her autumn water eyes with some cunning.

Chen Ergou didn't force it, could only stretch his waist, staring blankly at the chessboard, having been beaten three times in a row. His heart was filled with bitter tears, really didn't expect that even with a woman, he still couldn't turn things around. Although he had expected that this clever woman who made Chen Ergou's eyes widen would have decent chess skills, but how could he guess that she was a master of pretending to be weak?

"I've been learning Go for over a decade, and my teacher, who taught me hand in hand, is still an amateur 7-dan master. Losing to me a few times isn't too unjustified, otherwise that teacher would have to come after me for revenge. If you can defeat me within half a year, I'll directly recommend you to become a professional Go player." Cao Qiang said with a hint of joking.

Li Wei left with a displeased expression. Which young girl in her youth doesn't like the man she likes or is liked by to be a more and more outrageous and prominent figure? Don't expect a little neighbor girl to have such grand and lofty thoughts. Li Wei wasn't very angry, but rather was annoyed by Cao Jing's calm and collected demeanor, a typical example of a young girl's strange attitude towards women.

  "Child."

Cao Jingyin just said in a low voice, from start to finish, she didn't say a word to Li Wei.

"You didn't come here in the same way either." Chen Ergou said with a smile.

  "Not the same."

Cao Jing shook her head and said, "It's completely different."

The current Chen Ergou has no psychological barriers towards her, neither does he have a reverent heart nor any unmentionable desires. The change in his mindset was almost instantaneous, as if the world had turned upside down overnight. He looked up at Cao Jing and joked: "She's different from me, you're different from her, and I'm even more different from you. Indeed, very different."

  Cao Jing glared at him.

Chen Ergou only felt that her smile, frown, annoyance and anger all had a unique charm, without much reaction. Li Sheng, however, let out a loud cry and ran wildly, as if he had seen a thousand-year-old monster.

"Am I really that abstract?" Cao Jingjian said with a self-deprecating smile, wearing a duck-tongue cap.

Chen Ergou was still thinking with his head down, seemingly still pondering over the chess game that he had lost again and again.

Cao Jing didn't bother this defeated subordinate either, and instead hummed a Peking Opera tune to himself.

Finally, with her innate sharp intuition, she noticed that Chen Ergou, although bowing his head, was secretly glancing at her long legs from his angle, seemingly a rare opportunity. Although Cao Jingjian never wore too revealing clothes, even the most virtuous woman couldn't help but feel embarrassed by such close observation. Irritated and humiliated, Cao Jingjian suppressed the urge to throw this guy who would never become a decent person in his lifetime over her shoulder and knock him out cold. She took a deep breath, suddenly striking the classic seductive pose of the female lead from "Instinct".

Deceived people's minds to the extreme.

Chen Ergou, who was unprepared mentally, suddenly had a nosebleed that flowed like a spring, and it couldn't be stopped.
