Chapter 4: The Academic Capital.

A group of guards stood in front of us. I haven't gone to a city before, but I've heard that to enter, you would need an ID. One of them walked up to me asking if I had one. I knew lying was useless, so I just shook my head to tell them "No." Fortunately, they figured out that I was a pretty important figure, so they let me in without asking any further.

I was left by the carriage after giving him the fare. I don't expect much in this city, but I hope all will be fine. This place was filled with people, not like my home. There were plenty of things to do, however, I was sent here to enroll in a prestigious academy, so I must do that first. Though, I don't really know where I'm supposed to go or where the school even is. I guess I'll have to navigate on my own. They actually just put me here expecting me to figure things out, huh?

It took a while, but I eventually I figured out that the school was closer to the gates, so I was only wandering around where my goal was far away, wasting more important time. Inside, a man was waiting for me. I assumed he already knew that I was here to take the entrance examinations to get into this academy, so I went up to him.

"Ah. You must be Vixen Corr... Yes, I've heard about you already. Well, who doesn't know you? The people not from this nation?"

Am I really of national significance? I guess I just am the main character, huh? Hehehe.

Not to sound like some average half-assed reincarnation fantasy MC, but it really is hard to not not get flattered when people automatically assume that I am a powerful figure. I can't say I don't like being praised, though. Acting as whatever they think I am will be better for me, so I can't see a reason why I should be more unique.

"So you know of me already? Act upon which is best, and thus I will provide ye expectations mine best. Uhh... Is that how you say it?"

"Alright, go on. If you prove to be worthy, then take this magical assessment module and place your hand on the circle. It shall determine whether or not you are accepted. Also, I'm Yuqo Zin, the examiner. Your father should know me, go ask him when you have the chance."

Yuqo then hands out a paper with a magical circle drawn on it. I can see that it's some sort of pentacle—the 4th Pentacle of the Sun, to be more precise. In Earth, it should reveal spirits to whoever possesses the seal for at least 24 hours.

I place a hand on the circle, and comes out a flash of light. Yuqo claps as a celebration with a satisfied look on his face.

  "You pass with flying colours."

And thus I was accepted into the academy. It was unexpectedly easy. It didn't take long for me to get accustomed to this new environment. I spent many months here in the capital. I sometimes got in touch again with my family, but the distance really isn't that dramatic. Not only did everyone acknowledge and accept me, but they also felt in favor of me being here.

Nox Academy was one of the—if not—the best place to learn in Djouflour, and the surrounding kingdoms. Fortunately for me, this kingdom just conveniently had the right things kept to be given at my disposal. Isn't this how most stories go; the main character somehow has the world revolve around them, until a conflict arrives to sweep them out of hiding so they can get into the real action, no matter if it's good for them or not? Hehehe. If that was the entire plot of this book, I'd drop it already. Though, this isn't really some sort of fairy tail. There're no signs of a war brewing, and I'm living comfortably right now. Unless this is terribly written, there's no way I'd go out in the fields to work overtime.

There were many talents and well-known people other than me here as well. Most of them are Mages and Magicians, just like me, and only a handful are Knights and Swordsmen. Even if I can fight bare-handed, I'm better with using Magic, since it's more efficient, so I put myself under the Mage category. Ettik Trak—a famous prodigy—had a problem with my way of living; having nigh 0 problems and but relying only on talent. He was already gifted, but he also worked hard unlike me, who picked up the gold from the river. I couldn't deny that I was a bit lazy thanks to my abilities given by god themselves. I have to thank Nyx or whoever that woman was if I ever meet her again. Giving me the name "Vixen" was foul play though. Just because I lost my basic human abilities, memories and senses for a short while doesn't mean you get to choose my name, even if I couldn't give myself one. And she also gave me a name that's probably her way of "making me a wench" in this world—En's world.

There were 2 particular individuals that I became close with in this terribly-smelling facility, that is the school grounds; Fin Dozz and Clar Fich. Fin was the average guy you'd find on the streets, but apparently he knew Frelhr, and so we managed to get him into the team with the Rabbit of Earth. But speaking of the Rabbit of Earth, her house was burnt down, so she must be somewhere around here with Frelhr. The locals told me that she was a Con artist, but I wonder how she'd be able to trick anyone, considering the fact that I can see her real ears. Is she using magic to deceive people into thinking she doesn't have cat ears? I'm curious how she managed to fool everyone long enough for her to keep that name.

In a calm day out in the streets, I was eating the usual bread outside the store when Clar appeared out of nowhere to warn me about the "upcoming apocalypse."

"Yo, Vixen! I've heard news of a massive storm coming in to Djouflour. Mind if I tell you about it?"

It wasn't that big of a deal, since I predicted that it would shift it's path and move out before hitting this kingdom. [Clairvoyance] does tricks you would find convenient, but it's not necessarily useful. If it gets you out of paranoia, then that's good, but for me, what will happen, will happen, there's no need to worry about it.

In the movies, stopping a bullet with two fingers would be considered laughable, ridiculous, or cool, but here, it's more serious than that. I figured that I would get more "main character energy" by practicing this move, but eventually, I found out that it was an actual move called [Infernal Bullet Drop], a move that requires precise movement and intense concentration. This move came from the infernal continent—the same place where that famous storm that's heading here is from—so it's no wonder why people are getting nervous over such a small storm.

Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.

"Yes, yes! It's not an apocalyptic event, but we should be more worried about it! Why are you just eating bread out here when you can prepare for the storm, or stop it for us?"

Mmm! "Bite, bite." There's no reason for me to stop the super hot, and dangerous thunderstorm, even this bread is more important than heated wind that will move away from us. But noone knows that, so they'll simply panic. Of course, other Mages might have knowledge of it, but there's not really much for them if they just come out to say that it won't hit. The people handling the news doesn't really pay you much, even if you gave them information that proves that the world was ending.

"Come on, Vixen! I may be able to cast advanced fire magic spells, but I won't be able to manipulate flames according to my will... You have that strange 'Imitation' magic, right? Not much is known about it, but it can move, and destroy storms, right?!"

When did I ever tell her about my Imitation technique? I'd prefer if she didn't acknowledge it as magic. But she's right, I could destroy that storm, with the risk of getting caught by it. It's too unnecessary. I should eat more bread instead of destroy storms. They're natural anyways, I shouldn't mess with god's work, right?

"What?! You have more bread up your sleeve?! Why..? Do you like bread that much? I know there aren't much options right now, but bread isn't that delicious for you to have 20 more in your bag... Are you even hungry? You've been eating for the last 27 minutes now!"

Ah. Can she be any more annoying? I'm just trying to eat here, you know?!

Clar fixed her long purple hair and sat down the same bench I was sitting on. She sat real close to me. I worried she might've had malicious intentions, since that was what my 12 senses told me. Stealing bread is really cowardly however, unless you're in a pinch. My 12 senses do not lie, I cannot access most of them, but the more normal ones like smell, touch, sound, sight, and whatever, are as easy as existing. I'm able to use some of them, but since I'm still young, they're just like tailbones and wisdom teeth. Until I have a use for them, I can just put them out and forget about them.

The reason why me and Clar are friends is similar to why Fin and me got to know each other: Yuqo was Clar's brother. Yuqo is more of the serious type, while Clar is the energetic and annoying type. I'm the lazy, and main character type—not to brag and drag it along so much—but it's very reasonable because of Nyx. Who knows why everyone is everyone. It's not for me to go around sniffing the streets for clues, but I seriously need to check up on this girl. She has evil intent, but the surface says otherwise. It also doesn't look like she'd be the evil type. My [Sense of Impending Doom] was the same sense that gave me easy access to the [Clairvoyance] spell, so it's obvious that it's going to be the one that tells me that she's going to do something horrible in the future. I can't find what terrible things she'll do though, and I don't wanna go around searching for it, but my senses—they aggressively say it's bad.

"What's wrong? You hit your head or something? Or did you hit your head? Uuuu..! You've eaten 14 bread now! You still aren't full?! Why aren't you listening to me! This storm is genuinely bad news! Please do something about it!"

An unexpected figure then showed up from the south while Clar was still blabbering on and on.

"Oh? What's this? You two having a mindful conversation? Should I leave you alone?"

It was Fin. He had dark hair and a boring face. Not to insult him, but he really looked like the average guy you'd find out in the streets. Even if I'm repeating myself, there's just no other way to describe him. How do I put it... He looks boring. He talks in a monotone voice. And he doesn't have much interesting about him.

"No, no! You simply happened to be around while we were discussing our plans on surviving the incoming storm. You can join in, we need more brains to work with!"

  "Count myself in then."

He sat down next to me. Now I have both particular individuals sitting at my left and right. Perhaps I should bring the remaining bread home and speak with them. It's a bright day today, and it isn't everyday that I have them together at my side.

They continued talking about the storm, and soon enough, another face stepped in to the conversation. Who might this be? It's not anyone from this town, but Fin seems to know who this person is.

Her pupils were pitch black. I couldn't see anything but an empty void in them. She had blonde hair, much like mine, but hers was short, while mine is long. I keep my hairstyle neat and clean, while hers was a bit messy, not sure if it's on purpose though. It looks like the modern style they used back in Earth.

"Oh. It's Franz. Vixen, we got a new member while you were away from the White Rabbit. It's thanks to you that she's out here, but that's not important right now."

Franz? Who's Franz? That name doesn't sound very fantastic. I swear there was another word for it, but I can't seem to remember, despite having this extraordinary brain. What happened to my memory? God. Why can't I remember whenever I need to remember!? Anyways, she looks like she just got out of heavy labor. Her clothing is not what civilians usually wear, and it's not what adventurers wear as well. She looks just as old as us however. Child labor used to be more common around this time period, right? I might be wrong, but she does look like a worker.

"Ummm... I'm Franz Reinhard. I'm part of the administration now, but just think of me as another acquaintance, Vixen Corr."

She held out her hand, so, respectfully, I put down the last piece of bread I had and shook it.

"Great! Rabai-sama told me about you, Hato-chan! It'll be great to work with you."

"What strange nicknames you give us. But this means that the Rabbit of Earth is done settling in, right?"

"Yes. Come now, Hato-chan! Let's meet her at the... U-umm... Excuse me but, who might you be? Are you another newbie?"

She looked at Clar with a confused look on her face. Clar was strangely interested in our conversation, and when she was asked by Franz, she snapped out of it.

"Ah! Sorry, sorry! My name is Clar Fich, I'm Vixen's friend! Nice to meet you, Franz. What were you guys talking about? Administration? Members? Rabai?"

  "Yeah! Likewise! And the-"

Fin stood to interrupt their greetings. I guess our group shouldn't really be known to everyone. I'm sorry Clar, I guess we'll invite you into the friend group some day. The Rabbit of Earth is currently on the run from the police and the military, thankfully, Franz nicknamed her "Rabai," but I kind of messed up by accidentally mentioning her full real name. I hope she'll forget about it, but knowing her, it'll probably be stuck in her mind until the next year or so.

"Hey! What's the deal with you!? We were trying to have a nice and friendly conversation here! Oh, Vixen, you haven't even eaten the last piece of bread! Get back here, even though I was just trying to get you to stop eating a while ago!"

  "Uhhh... Shouldn't you..."

Nope. Not eating it now. It's half-eaten anyways. The amount of time I spent eating the rest made it cold. I should go to the Rabbit of Earth now, and tell her about the mission's success. She probably knows it already, if she somehow managed to give me that letter that I found between the fruits before I got to this city.
