Chapter 21: What Could He Lose?

Is she just a woman who sleeps with men for payment to the dark god? Or is it that women here must be paid for sleeping with people?

Cynthia was speechless, but she still cooperated with a painful expression, lowering her head and shaking it painfully, saying: "He doesn't like me at all."

"Poor girl." Duo En unconsciously took on a sympathetic tone, "Perhaps it's because you must have done something that didn't meet his expectations."

"There is an underground trading place where you can exchange your gold coins." Dorn helped Xynthia come up with a plan, "I can take you there, although the blessed gold coins are not in circulation, some people are willing to buy them when they need to go out at night."

Cynthia expressed her gratitude and asked: "Is there anywhere else here that sells hair dye?"

"You'll have to go find the elves for that, but they're always elusive and don't often come into the city-state."

Dorne suggested: "You can go to Kreebie Street and try your luck, but if you want to trade with them, you'd better be prepared to offer something of equal value."

"Are they also living in the Eternal Night Forest?" Cynthia asked in surprise.

"The Eternal Night Forest is vast, and it's not just Lord Karius and the Blood Clan who are there. They simply have their own territories." Dorn took her downstairs and out of the old house.

This was also Cynthia's first time seeing what the entire Tamrielic city-state looked like, or perhaps... not entirely, after all it was too big.

There were many horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians passing by, most of whom wore simple clothes, with the majority being dressed in casual attire like Duoen.

All the pointed buildings or low houses were built with stones, and even under the intense sunlight, these ancient stone blocks gave Cynthia a cold feeling.

She appeared in Kaer Morhen's cloak and became the center of attention.

If it weren't for this troublesome hair color, Cynthia wouldn't have wanted to wear this cloak at all; being too eye-catching wasn't a good thing for her identity.

"The people of the XC district are quite friendly, as long as you keep away from those mercenaries, you won't have big problems." Dorn led her up a flat stone bridge and through a huge tavern called the Merchant's Inn.

Wherever Cynthia went, most people took off their hats to greet her, and even a few dwarves who were still shorter than the wine table also took off their hats in friendship.

Cynthia was almost burned through by these fiercely burning gossip eyes.

She could only ask some questions about Tamolia's city-state as much as possible while following Dorne, "Is it still divided into two districts here?"

"Uh, the DC district is mainly inhabited by people of the Dark Church and nobles who do not acknowledge themselves as citizens of Rhedania, but only call themselves the imperial family of Tamriel." Dorn opened a wooden door, and Cynthia's dim light suddenly became bright.

The so-called black market is not a dark and shady transaction street, but a transaction street with sunlight, only geographically hidden.

Cynthia's blue eyes under the hood looked around and asked, "So... are the nobles of DC District and the Church serving Lord Kayers?"

Dorne shook his head, "I'm not allowed to go in and it's not clear, but the adults don't like to be disturbed, he doesn't often appear in the city-state either."

Cynthia pursed her lips, remembering that the pharmacist had said that Kayus was an incarnation of the Dark God, but not a complete one. His body lacked a part.

Will she help him find what he's lost and finally get a lead on the Luminary?

  But what can he lose?

Memory? Authority? Or some kind of emotion?

Cynthia sighed and walked into another dead end.

She was led by Duane into a trading post where a scantily clad woman sat across from them.

She was the first to see Cynthia wearing a black cloak without any reaction, and instead said in a very disdainful tone: "You served the master for two whole days, but didn't take a single penny from his belt, obviously, he doesn't like you at all."

Cynthia saw undisguised jealousy in his eyes.

To ensure she could get a bit more money, she lowered her head and scanned the front of the opponent's chest in a low voice, saying: "Yes, he likes people like you."

"Grown-ups like this!?" The woman couldn't help but puff out her chest, glanced at Cynthia's still underdeveloped body, and suddenly became much more amiable.

  "Of course."

Cynthia didn't want to smear Kael either, but who made him leave no room for himself?

She opened the pouch of gold coins in her hand, took a few herself and handed over the entire pouch, saying: "Can I exchange for a bit more? Lord Karius is about to drive me away, I need to save up enough money to survive."

Cynthia's voice at the end was tinged with a sob, looking very pitiful.

The woman took over her gold coin pouch and directly poured it onto the table, pondering for a moment before saying: "Five Blessing Gold Coins can be exchanged for one Temolia Gold Coin. You should know that using just one of these things doesn't have much effect."

Cynthia lowered her eyelashes and said in a low voice: "Can't you exchange a little more?"

The woman hesitated for a moment, "What kind of games does Lord Caius like?"

  ...

Cynthia hugged the gold coins she had exchanged one for one, with a satisfied smile at the corner of her mouth.

She generously threw two gold coins at Duo Wen and let him settle the bill with them, considering the rest as a small tip for making friends.

Her majestic attitude also won over Donne's enthusiastic admiration.

Cynthia was in no hurry to leave the black market, where she saw many things, materials for transmission arrays, alchemy stones, and special animal hides...

Each one overturned her understanding of this era, and also sighed in regret.

Almost all objects require divine magic to support them, which is completely useless to her.

She disappointedly left the black market with Duoen and was taken by him to a restaurant where he worked.

Todd was bored and lay on the table swatting flies.

Duane ushered Cynthia to sit at the wooden table inside, "I'll go call the kitchen to make something for you to eat."

Todd saw her and immediately perked up, walking over, "Hey there! Property of Master Kyrios."

"My name is Cynthia." Cynthia looked around curiously at the empty restaurant, "Why are there no customers?"

"Ah." Duoduo pointed across the street, "Two days ago, a new store suddenly opened across the street. I heard that even just one bowl of mashed potatoes is so delicious it makes you want to bite your tongue."

"Then you won't have any business?" Cynthia tapped on the table.

Todd nodded dejectedly, "If no guests come, Duane and I will be fired."
