Chapter 14: Making the Best of a Bad Situation

The little beast looked very weak, lying limp in Mo Zi Chen's arms, and called out to her a few times with a wronged tone, as if it was being coquettish.

Mo Zi Chen couldn't help but laugh and stroked its head, saying slowly: "Where did you come from?"

The little beast looked at her dazedly, and the two locked eyes for a moment. Mo Zi Chen couldn't help but laugh, she bent down and gently put it on the grass, saying: "Go, don't be so careless next time."

The little beast didn't leave, but instead turned its head to look at her, with a somewhat yearning expression in its eyes.

Mo Zi Chen was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said: "Are you hungry?" She generously handed over the fruits she had picked to it to taste.

The little beast didn't stand on ceremony, pouncing onto the pile of fruit and devouring it with gusto. Despite its small body, its appetite was not small, and it swept away half of the fruit in one go. With a satisfied look, it patted its belly, then climbed up again, waving its two front paws ceaselessly upwards.

Mo Zi Chen was somewhat puzzled, and following the direction it pointed to, he looked up and saw that on the severed purple vine, three fruit as big as dragon eyes were hanging, with a fiery red color all over, and seemingly with a subtle glow flowing around them, dazzling his eyes.

The little beast kept calling out, and Mo Zi Chen laughed: "You're really a little glutton, aren't you full of these things yet?"

She had been living alone here for many days, with no one to pursue her, and she had become quite comfortable. Her original girlish nature had also somewhat recovered, and she rather wanted to tease this lovely little beast, so she couldn't bear to reject it. She flew up, and the dagger flashed out again, cutting down all three fruits, which she grasped in her hand.

As she fell to the ground, the little beast was indeed very happy, pounced on it, and pulled all three fruits into its arms. Then it stopped for a moment, seeming to be hesitant and reluctant, finally using its small paws to pull one over.

Mo Zi Chen had a mind to tease it, "Just give me one, come on another one, can you?"

This time, the little beast was very determined and put both fruits into his bosom, not giving her a single one. Moreover, he stared at her with wide eyes, as if to make her eat them immediately.

Mo Zi Chen burst out laughing, unable to bear rejecting its good intentions, so he ate the fruit. Afterwards, the little beast picked up the remaining two fruits in its mouth, shook its body, and with a "whoosh", it vanished without a trace, no one knew where it ran off to.

Mo Zi Chen couldn't help but be shocked: "This is really a ruthless thing, actually running so fast!"

She brought back all the fruits, and then roasted a pheasant she had hunted yesterday by the water. However, when night fell, she didn't have much of an appetite.

Mo Zi Chen was startled, thinking she had fallen ill. Getting sick in a place like this would be terrible, with no doctor to turn to. However, her body didn't feel tired at all; on the contrary, she seemed even more spirited than before. She looked as if she were full of energy and vitality.

This made her feel very strange, and when she went to take a bath at night, she felt like she had sweated a lot and even smelled something. So she quickly washed up and took a shower, and when she came out of the water, she felt refreshed and invigorated, as if the stress and fatigue of these days of fleeing had all been washed away, and her body seemed to have become lighter than before.

However, apart from this, there was nothing else unusual, and Mo Zi Chen didn't pay attention to it either. Two days passed again, she was by the water's edge, preparing to wash her clothes, when suddenly she heard a familiar "squeak" sound, turned her head around, and indeed it was that little beast who had come from who-knows-where once more.

As soon as she saw Mo Zi Chen here, she rushed into her arms and snuggled in her embrace.

Mo Zi Chen grasped the back of her neck, where a piece of wrinkled skin was, and lifted it up, scolding: "You little thing, you ran away without a word that day, and now you're coming to find me?"

The little beast's eyes were wide with a very wronged expression, as if it was about to cry.

Mo Zi Chen couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Alright, I won't tease you anymore. Who knows how old you are now, have you been alive for ten years or not?"

"Hmm..." She said, propping up her cheek, "We're neighbors after all, hmm, I'll give you a name, let's call you TiaoTiao, how about I tease you every day?"

Doudou seemed to have a spiritual connection, calling out several times and then using its small paws to scratch Mo Zichen's face. Its paws were wrapped in soft flesh, fluffy and very cute.

At this time, it suddenly saw the jade seal that Mo Zi Chen had thrown aside, its eyes lit up, and it jumped out of her arms, pounced on the seal, and kept scratching with its small claws. It also opened its mouth to bite, but no matter how hard it tried, it couldn't move the seal at all. On the contrary, it hurt its teeth and looked back at Mo Zi Chen with a bit of grievance.

Mo Zi Chen burst out laughing: "This thing can't be eaten!"

Tiao Tiao licked his tongue, and only then did he reluctantly let go, running a few steps away. However, he turned back, looking at Mo Zi Chen with a somewhat disdainful gaze, as if to say: "I don't even want to eat something like this!"

Mo Zi Chen almost laughed so hard she fell over, as if all the gloom and terror of these past few days had been swept away.

She once raised a white-haired lion dog from the Western Regions in the imperial palace, as white as a snowball, and was named "Zhao Ye Lion" by her ingenious name. Her mother also said that she had not lost her innocence. Unfortunately, the little dog had long since died in the great fire of the imperial palace.

She smiled for half a day, and the expression on her face gradually became melancholy. The puppy seemed to sense her emotions, jumped onto her shoulder, and licked her cheek with its tongue, as if trying to make her smile.

"Those things, how can they all be forgotten? With you by my side, it's a bit less lonely, so thank you!" She hugged Tiao Tiao with her hands and lifted him up to her eyes, saying softly: "From now on, let's just live like this, okay?"

Those eyes, as big as black beans, blinked non-stop, and I didn't quite understand what she was saying. After a moment, she jumped down, shook her head, as if remembering something, chirped a few times, and stretched out her paws towards the water pool again.

Mo Zi Chen couldn't help but burst out laughing, she thought this little guy was very interesting, although he couldn't speak, the expression on his face seemed to be able to convey human-like emotions, and now his face clearly read: "Follow me, I'll take you to see something good!"

As she thought of this, her heart suddenly moved. Tiao had been staying in this valley for an unknown period of time, and it was clear that he was more familiar with the surroundings than himself. Perhaps, he really knew what treasure was buried under the water.
