Chapter 2 Elves

Abu let out a long sigh. In fact, he still had many questions to ask. For example, why did Lan teach him? Why did he want him to become an assassin? How should an assassin survive? Since assassins should not go on trials, then what kind of people would hire him? Only the sound of the coniferous forest wind could be heard in Abu's ear. Abu gave a wry smile and returned to the cave where he lived.

There, Lan had prepared a simple bundle for Abu, including food, water, clothes, and a small amount of silver coins. And Abu also found a mask, a pair of daggers, and a map. Abu tried hard to sniff in the air. Lan had indeed left. He had taken all his things with him and had even dealt with the cave. There was not even a trace of Lan's smell left here.

A master who had been with him day and night for five years suddenly disappeared just like that. Abu felt a little lost. He left the coniferous forest on the second day. According to the instructions on the map, if he walked straight east, he could reach the border of the Star King Empire in about half a month. The other three sides were uninhabited deserts. Only now did Abu know that he had actually been cultivating on the edge of the entire Marraya Continent for five years. No wonder he had never seen anyone pass by here. It was at least a year's journey from here to his motherland, the Aran Federation. Of course, if it were in peacetime.

Now the entire Marraya Continent was in chaos. The Aran Federation was even surrounded by three major forces. Now, entering the Aran Federation was not only a matter of time but more importantly, strength. To be honest, Abu had no good feelings for the Aran Federation. In his impression, the wars there had never stopped.

Abu stood at the foot of the coniferous forest and thought for a long time because he really had no specific goal. The Star King Empire to the east was a very small country. Due to its location on the edge, it was poor in resources. The entire country was poor and backward and could only survive by attaching itself to the surrounding big countries.

To the west of the Star King Empire was the desert. To the east was the Bath Empire. To the south, across three mountains, was the territory of the orcs. To the north was the lush Whispering Jungle, which belonged to the elves. For thousands of years, the rampage of humans on the Marraya Continent had pushed all other races to the edges of the continent, either close to the sea or close to the desert. And those dwarves, dragons, and so on had all disappeared and only existed in legends.

Humans had established hundreds of countries on the Marraya Continent, under the leadership of different systems. So most countries with the same system formed alliances and were constantly at war with countries with other systems, never stopping. Abu's motherland, the Aran Federation, was the only democratic country and was surrounded by slave countries, feudal countries, and imperial countries. The hatred of different camps had made the Aran Federation be in a state of war since its founding. Abu didn't even want to go back there for his whole life.

But now it seemed that his first destination could only be the Star King Empire, and then he could make other plans. Abu turned around and waved at the coniferous forest where he had lived for five years.

This coniferous forest was actually just a small oasis on the edge of the desert. Before Abu reached the Star King, he still needed three days to cross a desert under his feet. But fortunately, because it was on the edge of the desert, the only animal that appeared here was the docile sandworm. It was said that this kind of animal survived by eating sand. Abu didn't quite understand. How could sand be nutritious?

It was May now, and the desert under the scorching sun was extremely hot. Abu used an umbrella made of sandworm skin to block the sun above his head. The harsh environment was nothing to an assassin. Endurance was the first requirement for an assassin. The sand on the ground was at least thirty degrees, but the boots made of sandworm skin had very good heat insulation performance.

The first thing a person living in this world should think about is the issue of survival. While walking, Abu was thinking about how he would live in the future? He really didn't know where assassins could find work? To be precise, he didn't even know what assassins did. Judging from the name, they should do some things like assassinations, right? But who should he assassinate? Teacher Lan had always used the word "employer". So that meant someone had to hire him. He was the kind who killed for money. But who would hire him? Could it be that he stood on the street and shouted, "I am an assassin!"

The silver coins on his body could still let him live for a while. Abu was a little distressed. Could it be that after five years of desperate cultivation, he would still become a vagrant? Once again, Abu felt that he should become a thief instead of an assassin.

In any adventure team, there are always warriors and mages. But most of the ones who explore the way in front are thieves. When Abu was vagrant before, he had seen many such combinations, but he had never seen an assassin in any combination. And Lan kept saying that assassins were to kill people. So it seemed that assassins were not suitable for adventures such as treasure hunting.

While lost in wild thoughts, the three moons of the Marraya Continent rose. Only in the middle of the month could one see three moons. At the end or beginning of the month, only one or one and a half moons could be seen. Abu let out a long breath. He knew that the temperature in the desert would immediately drop to minus ten degrees or so. But fortunately, with his current constitution, he could still endure it. His clothes and boots were all made of sandworm skin. Although they looked very rough, their functions of keeping out cold and heat were quite good. This was also the reason why sandworms could live in the desert.

Just when Abu was still admiring the three moons above his head, a slight vibration came from the sand. Because of the characteristics of sand, the shock absorption function of sand was very good. If someone was riding a horse and running, the vibration transmitted from the ground would be much smaller than that in mountain forests, making it difficult to detect.

Abu had to thank his teacher for his teachings in the past five years. Such a slight vibration was still sensitively detected by him. Abu patted the sand with one hand. After a moment, he could determine that there were about ten horses about a hundred meters in front of him. The three moons in the sky made Abu's field of vision very wide. The ten or so horses were slowly entering Abu's sight.

He hadn't seen anyone here for five whole years. Unexpectedly, as soon as he left the coniferous forest, he could see people. Abu was a little excited. Should he go up and say hello? If those people could give him a ride, he could get out of the desert faster.

When the more than ten people got closer and closer, Abu realized that something was wrong. It seemed that the eight horses behind were chasing the two horses in front. Immediately after, Abu saw that one of the people on the eight horses chasing behind raised his hand and released a flash of lightning, but it was dodged by the two people in front, kicking up flying sand.

There was a mage! Abu subconsciously used his hands and feet. In the next moment, Abu hid himself completely in the sand, only showing two eyes to look outside. He held the pair of daggers at his waist. Since he still didn't understand what was going on, Abu didn't dare to act. In short, he still shouldn't get involved in any mess. This was his experience as a vagrant!

People walking in the big desert usually wrapped their heads with a scarf to prevent being blown in the eyes by sandstorms. These people were no exception. So Abu couldn't see what the people who came were like for a moment. However, two people caught his attention. Among the eight people behind, two were carrying long horn bows on their backs. Although their faces were covered, their long ears were still exposed. Were they elves?
