Akira’s core pulsed softly as he drifted near the edge of the underground stream. The soothing effects of the healing waters eased the strain from his recent fight, though he knew he couldn’t linger for long. The Cavern of Trials was unforgiving, and staying in one place too long might attract more predators. He flexed his tendrils experimentally, feeling the subtle improvements from his new traits. His gelatinous form felt sturdier, the faint trace of the Rock Tortoise’s hardened shell and stone skin blending into his body.
“I need to test what these can really do,” Akira thought. His core pulsed faintly as he began to move again, leaving the stream behind.
The tunnel ahead was narrower, forcing him to compress his body to squeeze through. The air was damp, and the sound of dripping water echoed faintly. A dim blue light began to shine in the distance, drawing his attention. As he approached, the passage widened into a cavern bathed in a strange bioluminescent glow. Moss clung to the walls, and crystalline formations jutted out from the floor and ceiling, reflecting the light in shifting patterns.
Akira cautiously moved into the space, his core flickering with wariness. The beauty of the cavern was disarming, but the silence felt unnatural. He extended a tendril toward one of the glowing crystals, curious if consume could yield anything useful.
Consume skill activated. Acquired trait: luminous crystal - enhanced light burst (cooldown: 3 minutes).
“Nice,” Akira muttered. “Stronger and faster cooldown—this might come in handy.”
His thoughts were interrupted by a low growl. The sound reverberated through the cavern, and Akira froze. Emerging from behind a cluster of crystals was a hulking, shadowy figure. Its body seemed to blur at the edges, as though it wasn’t entirely solid. Yellow eyes glowed faintly in the dim light, and its jagged claws clicked against the stone floor.
Shadow Wraith Beast. Threat level: medium.
Akira’s core pulsed erratically. The creature’s shadowy form made it difficult to read its movements, and its speed was alarming. As it lunged toward him, Akira barely dodged, his gelatinous body rippling as the claws passed inches from his core.
“I can’t outrun this thing!” Akira thought, desperately scanning the cavern for anything he could use. His glow flickered as he considered his options. The creature turned, its form blurring as it moved to strike again.
This time, Akira activated enhanced light burst, flooding the cavern with blinding brilliance. The Shadow Wraith screeched in pain, its form flickering and shrinking as though weakened by the light. Akira took the chance to lash out with his tendrils, grappling onto the creature’s shadowy body and activating consume.

Consume skill activated. Unable to fully absorb target. Partial traits acquired: shadow cloak (passive - incomplete), flicker movement (cooldown: 10 minutes).
The Shadow Wraith screeched louder, thrashing violently and slipping free of Akira’s grip. It stumbled backward, its form flickering erratically before retreating into the darkness of the cavern.
Akira collapsed onto the ground, his core dimming. “That was way too close,” he muttered. The new traits were faint, incomplete fragments of the Shadow Wraith’s power, but even a partial gain was better than nothing.
He tested the shadow cloak, his form dimming slightly and blending into the surrounding shadows. The effect was imperfect, but it might give him an edge in future encounters. Flicker movement, while still on cooldown, seemed to be a short burst of speed—something he desperately needed against faster foes.
“I’m not ready for fights like that,” Akira thought grimly. “I need more strength, more complete skills.”
Akira pressed onward, his glow kept faint to avoid drawing attention. The cavern began to shift, the crystalline formations giving way to rough, jagged rock. The air grew warmer, and faint vibrations trembled through the ground. He followed the source of the warmth until he emerged into another vast chamber.
In the center of the chamber was a pool of bubbling, molten liquid, its heat radiating outward. Surrounding it were several stone pedestals, each holding a glowing orb of light. Akira approached cautiously, his instincts on high alert. The orbs pulsed faintly, and the molten pool hissed and bubbled.
Warning: cavern guardian detected.
A deep rumble shook the chamber, and from the molten pool rose a towering creature. Its body was composed of magma and stone, its glowing eyes radiating searing heat.
Magma Golem. Threat level: high.
Akira’s core flickered in fear, but he forced himself to focus. The Golem moved slowly, its heavy limbs leaving molten trails in its wake. He circled cautiously, testing the limits of the Golem’s range. The creature’s slow but deliberate movements gave Akira an idea.
Using his shadow cloak, Akira dimmed his glow and darted between the pedestals, trying to remain unnoticed. The Golem followed his movements sluggishly, its molten form oozing heat and fire. Akira activated enhanced light burst, aiming the light directly into the Golem’s eyes. The creature staggered, its movements faltering as it roared in frustration.
Spotting a weak point near the creature’s core, Akira lashed out with his tendrils, aiming for the glowing cracks in its chest. The Golem swiped at him, its molten arm grazing his body and leaving a searing burn.
Ignoring the pain, Akira focused all his energy on consume.
Consume skill activated. Unable to absorb target. Minor trait acquired: heat resistance (passive).
The Golem roared, shaking the cavern, but Akira’s attack had weakened it. As the creature stumbled, its molten body began to cool and harden. Finally, it collapsed into a pile of steaming rock and ash.
Akira slumped against one of the pedestals, his core dim but steady. The fight had drained him, but the gain was worth it. Heat resistance would make future encounters in this molten region more bearable.
“I’m still here,” Akira muttered. “Still alive. One step closer.”
As he rested, his core pulsed faintly, resonating with the orbs on the pedestals. They shimmered brighter, and for a moment, Akira thought he could hear a faint voice—something calling him deeper into the Cavern of Trials.
With renewed determination, Akira prepared to move forward, knowing the challenges would only grow stronger from here.
