Chapter 27: Nanmeng City

Li Hui had been fleeing at full speed in the sky for several hours, unable to shake off the red-eyed demon tiger behind him. He relied on his agile movements to narrowly avoid the tiger's attacks time and again.

But the Red-eyed Demon Tiger had gradually grasped Li Hui's action patterns, and its attacks became more intense and violent. Li Hui had narrowly escaped being hit several times, and if this continued, he might have to retreat into the immortal mansion.

At the critical moment, a green light suddenly shot out and killed the red-eyed magic tiger that was chasing from behind. Immediately afterwards, a middle-aged scholar with a large sleeve appeared in mid-air, surprisingly, it was a Golden Elixir cultivator!

  "Roar!"

The Red-eyed Demon Tiger's body shape couldn't help but stop, its body twisted to dodge this attack, and it let out an angry roar as it stared at the human cultivator who had suddenly appeared halfway.

"You beast, how dare you come here and cause trouble!" The middle-aged scholar shouted lightly, waving his hand as the green light spun in mid-air before shooting towards the Red-eyed Demon Tiger. It was a flying sword with a completely emerald body.

Li Hui stopped in his tracks, standing quietly to the side as he watched the sudden appearance of the middle-aged scholar and the fierce battle with the Red-Eyed Demon Tiger. In his heart, however, was a surge of wild joy. Whether it was the crisis being resolved or finally meeting a human cultivator, both were things worth rejoicing over, and this human cultivator seemed to be filled with kind intentions.

A middle-aged scholar, with a green flying sword in hand, was fighting against the red-eyed demon tiger. The red-eyed demon tiger was soon at a disadvantage and was surrounded by a mass of green sword light, with bursts of angry roars echoing out from time to time.

In less than a moment, that red-eyed demon tiger was defeated and turned around to run away, fleeing far into the distance.

The middle-aged scholar did not pursue further and instead withdrew his flying sword, turning to look at Li Hui.

"Thank you, senior, for saving my life!" Li Hui stepped forward and bowed his hands in gratitude.

The middle-aged scholar also accepted Li Hui's courtesy and said calmly, "Little guy, which sect are you a disciple of? How did you venture into this vast wilderness alone and provoke the fierce beast, the Red-eyed Demon Tiger?"

Li Hui's eyebrows furrowed slightly, but he still replied honestly: "I am a loose cultivator from Chu State, and I wanted to go to Ziwei City. I rashly entered the Yunyuze and didn't expect it to be so perilous."

"A loose cultivator from Chu State?" The middle-aged scholar's face showed a hint of surprise: "Don't you know that this place is still 5,000 miles away from Ziwei City, and there are high-level demon beasts roaming along the way?"

Li Hui was taken aback, thinking that Ziwei City should be nearby, but unexpectedly it was still 5,000 miles away. It seems that Guo Feng's information was completely wrong.

A bitter taste rose in his mouth, and he bowed to the middle-aged scholar: "The junior indeed did not know the route to Ziwei City, and only walked this way after being pointed by others."

"Either the person who told you about this road wanted to kill you or they themselves didn't know anything, just spouting nonsense." The middle-aged scholar said calmly, then suddenly changed his tone and added with a hint of admiration: "However, your luck is indeed quite good, and you've managed to arrive here safely despite all the mistakes."

Li Hui didn't know what to say and could only stand quietly in place.

"Come on, since we've arrived here, let's go into the city together." The middle-aged scholar swung his sleeves and turned to fly forward, but deliberately controlled the speed of Li Hui following closely behind.

Li Hui also hastily followed behind the middle-aged scholar with his sword.

After flying forward for a dozen or so miles, a city appeared below, not very large, but surrounded by high and sturdy city walls on all sides. Above the city, there seemed to be a layer of light curtain covering it like an inverted pot.

A middle-aged scholar suddenly appeared at the city gate below, and Li Hui followed closely behind him.

"Lord Xia!" The monk guarding the city gate bowed to the middle-aged scholar.

"Hmm!" The middle-aged scholar nodded slightly and immediately turned his head to Li Hui behind him, saying: "This is Nanmang City. It's safe here. You can move around the city by yourself." After finishing speaking, he floated away.

"Thank you, sir!" Li Hui hastily bowed his head in gratitude. When he looked up again, the middle-aged scholar had already vanished from sight.

The monk guarding the city, however, looked at Li Hui with some curiosity and found that Li Hui also looked back at him. He suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and cupped his hands in greeting: "Senior!"

The city-guarding cultivator was only a Qi Refining stage cultivator, and Li Hui was naturally his senior in front of him.

Li Hui felt a bit of goodwill towards the monk guarding the city, and smiled as he spoke: "Young brother, I've just arrived here and don't know much about the situation in this city. Would you please give me a general introduction?"

The defender was taken aback, and one of the foundation period seniors was so polite to him. He hurriedly cupped his hands and replied: "Senior is too polite, my junior name is Wang Dong, you can call me by my name."

He paused for a moment as if he had understood something, and with an expression of surprise, said: "Senior, didn't you come here by crossing this vast swamp from the outside?"

Li Hui smiled wryly and nodded: "I just came in from outside through this vast swamp, if I hadn't met Xia Qianbei at the end, I'm afraid I would have died in this swamp too."

Wang Dong said with a hint of admiration: "Senior can cross this vast swamp alone, this divine ability is indeed impressive!"

It wasn't until later that he remembered he hadn't introduced the situation in this city to Li Hui, so he continued: "This city is called Nan Zhuo City, and it's a full 5,000 miles away from Zi Wei City. In the south, it's considered one of the cities farther away from Zi Wei City, but in the north of Zi Wei City, there are cities like Nan Zhuo City that exist beyond 10,000 miles."

Li Hui furrowed his brow, and in his heart he was even more suspicious of the information Guo Feng had given him: "If we don't cross this marsh, how can we get to the outside of it?"

The king's face showed a few points of strangeness, but he patiently explained: "In the city of Purple Wei, there is a direct transmission array leading to the outside world, which can directly transmit to the outside of this swamp. However, the other end of the transmission array connected to the city of Purple Wei is three thousand miles southeast of here, where it happens to be the southeastern edge of this swamp, and there are also some small repair true doorways."

Li Hui's heart moved slightly, and he felt a little surprised. It seemed that Guo Feng was likely from the Xiaoxiuzhenmen sect in that place. He himself didn't understand the situation in Daze either, and had simply told himself based on some rumors and hearsay.

Li Hui's heart also cleared up at this point, and he continued to ask: "Then why does such a city exist in this place? And what method do I have to go to Ziwei City?"

Wang Dongyi listened and found that this senior was indeed an outsider, not understanding the situation at all. He still respectfully replied: "This city was established for the convenience of cultivators who come to the Great Swamp to collect some spiritual herbs and hunt some demon beasts. There is a transmission array in the city that leads to Ziwei City. If seniors want to know more about the situation, there are maps of the Xia State Cultivation World for sale in some marketplaces within the city."

Li Hui nodded and finally had a preliminary understanding of this place. He smiled at Wang Dong to express his gratitude, then left immediately.

Walking to a deserted corner, the spiritual consciousness released a probe, and after confirming that there was no one around, it hurriedly urged the immortal mansion. A white light flashed, and Han Xue's figure appeared.

"Where is this? Have we arrived at Ziwai City?" Han Xue looked around in confusion and curiosity.

"This place is called Nanze City, and Ziwai City is still 5,000 miles away!" Li Hui explained.

"Oh, right! How did you shake off that monster's pursuit?" Han Xue immediately became concerned about Li Hui's escape.

"Xue Er, this is a long story, I'll tell you slowly!" Li Hui said with a smile.

The two walked shoulder to shoulder towards the city, and along the way Li Hui recounted how he had met Xia Xiang's Golden Elixir Cultivator, and the news he got from Wang Dong, retelling it all to Han Xue.

"What a close call!" Han Xue revealed a few points later: "What that Guo Feng said in Ningyuan City was also unreliable, and it almost got us killed in this vast swamp."

As they spoke, the two of them happened to pass by a store that sold all sorts of goods, similar to an ordinary general merchandise store. Li Hui's heart skipped a beat as he walked in.

The shopkeeper was a middle-aged cultivator in the Refining Qi stage, and as soon as he saw Li Hui and Han Xue enter, he immediately recognized that they were two Foundation Establishment stage cultivators. He hastily welcomed them: "Two seniors, please come in. Our small store sells all kinds of medicinal herbs, spiritual grass for feeding spiritual beasts, large and small storage bags, and more. What do the two seniors need?"

Li Hui looked around the small shop with great curiosity, and it was indeed like a general store. Even the jade boxes for storing medicinal herbs, the jade slips for recording information, and the talisman papers for making talismans were all complete.

"Is there a latest map of Xiàzhōu's Xiūzhēn realm here?" Li Huì asked calmly.

The cultivator who was watching the shop was taken aback, as maps were something that almost everyone had a copy of, but only those new to this place would need one. However, he quickly replied: "The latest map in our small shop is from five years ago, which not only includes the major and minor cities of Xia State, the distribution of various immortal sects, but also marks the habitats of various demonic beasts."

Li Hui nodded, the Xiazhou Xiuzhen realm was so vast that it wasn't easy to draw a map either. The map drawn five years ago could be considered new.

  "Bring me two copies!"

"Please wait a moment, senior!" The cultivator in the Refining stage replied, turned around and took out two jade slips from a grid in the cabinet behind him and handed them to Li Hui: "This is the map you wanted."

Li Hui nodded and said: "How many spirit stones are needed in total?"

That Qi-refining stage cultivator smiled and said, "Two maps, a total of 200 pieces of low-grade spirit stones. Since it's your first time visiting our humble shop, I'll give you a discount to 180 pieces."

Li Hui's heart moved slightly upon hearing this, but he didn't bat an eyelid. A map that cost a hundred low-grade spirit stones was indeed not cheap. He simply took out the required amount of spirit stones from his storage bag and placed them on the counter before turning to leave with Han Xue.

"Please go slowly, seniors!" The shopkeeper, a Qi Refining stage cultivator, personally escorted the two out of the door.
