"I'll drive the cart." Li Xia said to the carter, then he first put Xiao Hei on the cart and helped Xia Zhi get in. Da Qing jumped onto the cart as well, lying down at the front of it. Li Xia smiled and took over from the carter, slowly driving the cart down the mountain.
Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu'er both wanted to see the scenery outside, so they didn't pull down the car curtains.
"It turns out there's another way up the mountain." Xia Zhi said. They had taken a stone staircase to climb the mountain. The path Li Xia took them down was an earthen road, winding its way down, with trees on both sides. There were also people walking on this road, but it was much quieter than the road they took to climb up.
"This road leads to the back of the temple and can be driven. Are you here for the first time?" Li Xia asked, "That's why you didn't know there was this road."
"Yes." Xia Zhi didn't hide it either.
"Li Xia, you're quite familiar with this place. Do you come here often?" asked Xiao Hei Yu, rubbing Da Qing's head and asking Li Xia.
"Not every time." Li Xia replied, "But I come a few times a year, so it's relatively familiar."
Three people chatted, and the car soon arrived at the foot of the mountain, bypassing the bustling market, and turning into Linshui Town. Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu both looked at the street scene. The streets and alleys of Linshui Town were crisscrossed, and the one they walked on was the main street, with bluestone pavement, while the small alleys on either side were mostly dirt roads. The street became more and more crowded, and the large and small shops on both sides also increased. Xia Zhi thought that this should be the most prosperous street in Linshui Town.
It was still noon, and the restaurants on the street were all full of people. Li Xia drove the horse cart without any intention of stopping. Xiao Hei Yu looked at Xia Zhi for a moment.
When they arrived at Linshui Town in the morning, Old Man Xia gave them ten big coins, which was for their lunch. Xiao Heiyu actually had his eyes on a baozi shop they were passing by, but since Li Xia and Xia Zhi didn't say anything, he remained silent. Xia Zhi was still looking at the shops on both sides of the street, and out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Xiao Heiyu's expression. She was just about to speak when the car stopped.
"We're here." Li Xia jumped off the carriage, tossed the reins to a young fellow, and then held out his hand to Xiao Hei Yu. Xiao Hei Yu already had a good impression of Li Xia, so he let Li Xia carry him down from the carriage. Da Qing immediately followed her young master in jumping down.
Xia Zhi didn't let Li Xia help her, and she jumped down from the carriage with ease. The young servant drove the carriage to the side. Xia Zhi looked up, in front of them was a magnificent three-story building, a wine house, on the signboard above the main entrance were two golden characters "Ju Xian".
On the way to Linshui Town, Xia Zhi had heard of this name. Ju Xian Wine House was the largest and most magnificent wine house in Linshui Town.
"Is it okay here?" Li Xia asked Xi Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu with her head down.
"Isn't it expensive?" Little Black Fish asked.
"It's okay. I can afford it." Li Xia said in a very down-to-earth manner.
"We also have money." Little Black said, his eyes looking towards Xia Zhi.
Li Xia carried a basket and looked at the sign of Ju Xian wine building again, then nodded.
"You like it, come on in." Li Xia said politely, leading the two up the steps.
They hadn't even entered the tavern's gate when the tavern owner, a middle-aged man wearing a long gown and with a plump build, had already received the news and came out to greet them with a smile all over his face. He bowed to Li Xia and called out respectfully, "Young Master is coming, why didn't you send someone to inform us in advance? We haven't made any preparations."
The shopkeeper led the way in front and welcomed them into the wine building.
The first and second floors of the wine building were fully seated, with attendants wearing white towels on their shoulders coming and going. The shopkeeper took them directly to the third floor. The third floor was all luxurious suites, each suite had a small attendant serving at the door. The shopkeeper led them to the east end of the corridor and opened the door of the sunny room to invite them in.
"It's still the usual practice, although the master didn't instruct us to do so, this room is still reserved. Today there are many guests, and only this one room is left." The shopkeeper explained to Li Xia with a smile.
The room was very large, and as soon as they entered, they saw an eight-panel wooden screen embroidered with peonies, which divided the room into two sections. The shopkeeper asked them to sit in the outer section for a while, and then the young servants brought in copper basins and snow-white towels on trays, asking Xia Zhi and others to wash their hands and faces.
There was a young fellow who was particularly sharp-eyed and saw that Xiao Hei Yu was still young, so he wanted to help him wash his face.
The little black fish is unhappy.
Xia Zhi smiled and went forward to help Xiao Hei Yu roll up his sleeves. Xiao Hei Yu then washed his face and hands by himself. After they had all finished washing, he turned around the screen. Behind the screen, next to the south window, was a round table with a hardwood inlaid large stone painting of "Fu Shan Shou Hai". The round table was surrounded by sixteen high-backed chairs.
"It's a bit empty here, there are no small rooms left, let's just make do with this place." Li Xia said to Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu.
Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu'er both nodded.
The shopkeeper was surprised at Li Xia's attitude towards the two children, but his face didn't show it. He only asked Li Xia a question: "Excuse me, young master, how many guests are there in total?"
"It's just us." Li Xia said, and then let Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu sit down.
Xia Zhi sat down next to Li Xia, followed by Xiao Hei Yu Er. Da Qing then lay down between the two of them. Xiao Hei Yu Er was seven years old and looked even shorter when sitting in a chair compared to others. Xia Zhi noticed this and thought that it would be great if there were children's chairs available. Just then, a young man brought in several cushions. After placing a few cushions on the chair, Xiao Hei Yu Er felt much more comfortable sitting down.
Little black fish is happy.
The shopkeeper asked Li Xia again: "Young master, would you like to order dishes or have a fixed menu?"
Li Xia asked Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu Er.
"Just the three of us, no need for a big spread. Bring out your specialties." Li Xia said.
Li Xia nodded to the shopkeeper, and immediately a young waiter presented the menu. Li Xia handed the menu to Xia Zhi. "Uncle Xia Zhi, what do you want to eat? Don't bother with the menu, just tell us what you want and we'll have the kitchen make it."
"We have both Southern and Northern cuisine here, we can make any dish." The shopkeeper smiled and had a very humble attitude, but his words were quite big.
Xia Zhi took the menu and asked Xiao Hei Yu. Xiao Hei Yu waved his hand: "Sixteen, you decide." Xia Zhi knew what he loved to eat. Xia Zhi quickly browsed through the menu. It was indeed as the shopkeeper said, with all kinds of dishes available.
"Longjing shrimp, squirrel mandarin fish." Xia Zhi handed the menu back to Li Xia, "Li Xia, I've ordered these two dishes. You see if they're suitable or not. We're not familiar with this place, so you take charge."
"What you want is the signature dish here." Li Xia smiled, already having an understanding of Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu's taste. Without looking at the menu, he directly ordered, "Add a stir-fried seasonal vegetable, sweet and sour pork ribs, braised lion's head, and one serving of fish soup per person."
Fat shopkeeper smiled and agreed, and also flattered Xia Zhi with a sentence: "Little girl is very good at ordering dishes. These two dishes are our chef's specialties."
Li Xia asked Xia Zhi and Xiao Hei Yu what they wanted to eat as the main course, then made rice and San Xian Baozi.
"Oh, and there's Da Qing, what does Da Qing want?" Li Xia's gaze fell on the big dog lying between the two children, he had already known the dog's name on the way.
"Li Xia, would you also invite our Big Qing?"
"Of course."
"Then give Da Qing two steamed buns, two catties of meaty bones, more meat and less bones, boiled in plain water is fine, don't add anything else." Xia Zhi said.
Li Xia smiled and nodded, indicating that the fat shopkeeper should hurry up and prepare.
