"Get up! It's time to get up!"
In the early morning, a childish voice came from the alarm clock. Cheng Wushuang rubbed his eyes and slowly sat up, picked up the alarm clock on the bedside table, and pressed the stop button hard.
Six o'clock, the most hated time in her life, because it proved that she had to get up and go to work.
She turned her head to take a glance at her husband who was still asleep beside her, and a satisfied smile suddenly appeared on her face. No matter how annoying or tired she was outside, as long as she returned home and saw the loved one lying by her pillow, all troubles would disappear into thin air.
"Good morning, husband."
She silently muttered to herself, covered her husband with the quilt, and then carefully got out of bed. She didn't wake up her husband because he was working the night shift and would usually come back around dawn, so he still needed some rest.
She left the bedroom and followed her usual habit of going to the bathroom to wash up, but her body suddenly stopped abruptly.
What did she see!
There was actually a pair of small shoes placed by the door!
These shoes were enough to cause her astonishment because she didn't have children, so naturally there wouldn't be any children's shoes at home.
"Is it brought back by your husband?"
Thinking so in her heart, she involuntarily came to the door and picked up the shoes. The shoe size was very small, probably around 33, because it had to be smaller than her own shoes.
What she found strangest was that it wasn't a new pair of shoes, and there was still quite a bit of mud stuck to the edges, damp and accompanied by some strange smells, including musty and rotten odors.
It's really strange, these two days have been sunny with not a cloud in the sky. Even if we say that this shoe was dug out of the flower bed by my husband, it should have dried up after being placed at home for several hours.
The more she thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Why would her husband bring back a pair of worn-out shoes? If she couldn't get to the bottom of where these shoes came from, she probably wouldn't be able to feel at ease for the rest of the day.
She woke up her husband and asked him what was going on with the shoes. She threw the shoes in her hand to the ground, turned around, and quickly returned to the bedroom.
"Xiao Feng? Xiao Feng?"
Cheng You Shuang gently pushed her sleeping husband on the bed.
"Hmm? What's wrong?"
Her husband was awakened by her, squinting at her with a still somewhat dazed look.
"I'm asking you something, what's with those little shoes by the door?"
"Children's shoes? What shoes?"
Her husband was apparently stunned by what she said, scratched his hair and sat up.
"Isn't that pair of shoes by the door the ones you brought back? The wet and muddy ones!"
"What's wrong with you? I get off work so late every day, when do I have time to go buy shoes?"
Looking at her husband's inexplicable expression, Cheng Wushuang felt a bit anxious in her heart. Thinking about it, she realized that her husband had no reason to deceive her on this matter. But if those shoes weren't brought back by her husband, then how did they appear in their home?
"Never mind, never mind, it's nothing, you can continue sleeping. Do you want me to prepare breakfast for you?"
Cheng Wushuang compromised, she didn't need to be serious about this issue anyway, it's just a pair of rotten shoes, if her husband didn't bring them back, then she could just throw them away when she went out.
"No need, I reckon I'll sleep till this afternoon. Besides, isn't there really nothing going on?"
"It's okay, if you're not going to eat it, then I'll just have a casual bite."
After finishing speaking, Cheng Wushuang kissed her husband and walked away with a smile, leaving him bewildered on the bed.
Washed, made up, and finished breakfast, Cheng Wushuang left the house with a spirited appearance. Of course, she didn't forget to throw away those shoes. After going downstairs and not walking far, a trash can appeared in front of her, without thinking much, she threw the shoes in her hand into it, and then drove to the company where she was located.
Cheng Wushuang is twenty-eight years old this year, relying on her own ability and beautiful appearance, she became a manager at a young age. Her colleagues in the company also gave her a nickname, "Highly Decorated Female Strongman".
She arrived at the building where her company was located and habitually walked into the elevator. The elevator was crowded with people, but most of them were her subordinates, so as soon as she stepped in, someone immediately greeted her with a smile:
"Good morning, boss!"
"You too!"
The employees in the elevator all shifted inward, which also left her a large space. Seeing that everyone else was packed tightly, only she had this relaxed space, and she said somewhat embarrassedly:
"What are you doing? You've made me like a man-eating tigress, and I can rush over here."
"Thanks, boss, but there's not much space on your side either, besides we'll be arriving soon."
As the employees made excuses, she smiled and didn't say anything else. The elevator soon arrived at her office floor. As she walked out of the elevator, she went straight through the employee office area to her own office. Along the way, in addition to hearing some friendly greetings, she also saw some people's eyes filled with differences.
The employees' gazes full of differences are obviously caused by themselves, but what's wrong with themselves today? Is it the clothes that don't match or is there a problem with their makeup?
With this doubt, she turned into the bathroom, but as soon as she came in, she heard the security guard outside say:
"Little friend, this is the ladies' restroom, boys are not allowed in here. The men's restroom is over there."
"A kid? When did the company start hiring kids?"
Cheng Wushuang was somewhat angry after hearing this. There were clear rules in the company that employees could not bring their relatives, especially children, into the workplace. She planned to go out and ask who had brought the child and tell them to take him away immediately.
She collected her thoughts and stood in front of the mirror, where she saw a beautiful and elegant version of herself staring back. Her face wore an air of authority befitting a leader, but even to herself, it seemed devoid of warmth. That's just how things were at the company - if she, as a high-ranking executive, presented herself as overly friendly to everyone, some people would lose the respect they should have for her, and sometimes even refuse her requests.
Of course, this is also a manifestation of the sense of superiority. She works hard to climb up for what? Isn't it just to gain more people's respect and fear? Isn't it just to have this high-and-mighty feeling? So no matter from which angle you think about it, she should continue to maintain this dignity.
She carefully looked at herself in the mirror, everything was normal, and there was nothing out of place, but she didn't know why those employees would make that kind of expression.
She adjusted her collar and was about to turn around and leave when she was called back.
"Director Cheng!"
Cheng Wushuang turned around to see that the one who had called out to her was a supervisor from another department. The woman was even younger than herself and was known for stepping on men to get ahead. Although she felt a strong sense of disgust towards this type of person, she still managed to force out a smile and replied politely:
"What's wrong, Director Wang? Anything happened?"
"Oh, nothing in particular, I was just curious and wanted to ask you, who is that boy who came with you today?"
"What boy? Are you sure you're talking to me?"
Cheng Wushuang listened in confusion and pointed at himself.
Another woman was even more puzzled and asked back in surprise:
"There are only two of us here, so I'm naturally talking to you. But don't worry, as a superior, bringing a child along won't cause anyone to say anything, they'll just be curious and ask questions."
"Sorry, I really don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you've mistaken me for someone else. I also heard that a kid came to the company just now, but it's not me who brought him. I was just going to ask around in a bit. If nothing's wrong, I'll leave first."
He dropped that sentence and Cheng Wushuang quickly left the bathroom. Watching Cheng Wushuang disappear, the woman lightly bit her lip and sneered:
"Damn old woman!"
