Chapter Six Does Not Exist

Cheng Wushuang searched for a long time in her phone's address book, but surprisingly couldn't find anyone to talk to. Of course, it wasn't that there was no one in her address book - on the contrary, there were many people, only none of them were friends she could confide in.

Although fortune and ability have been very kind to her, making her career soar, she has also lost many people who should have become friends. Since childhood, she often heard her mother say that a person's life is full of regrets because everything is about letting go. In the midst of giving up, there is gain, and in the midst of gaining, there is sacrifice, so before deciding what to gain, one must think carefully whether the thing they want to gain is necessarily better than what they are willing to give up.

She used to sneer at her mother's words, thinking she could have it both ways, but now it seems her mother was right.

"It was better when we were young, there wasn't so much hypocrisy and plotting against each other, as long as we played together it was very happy."

She thought of her childhood, the almost forgotten Qingfeng County, and those boys who were like flies buzzing around her at that time. At that time, she was like a happy little princess, can be reckless and arbitrary, even so, the boys around her would still give in to herself.

Her mother even joked with her, saying that they all quarreled and wanted to grow up quickly, so that they could marry themselves as wives. It was indeed the most innocent and simplest at that time.

As she thought back to her childhood, a smile naturally spread across Cheng Wushuang's face, and the fear that had been weighing on her heart seemed to be washed away by this smile. Thinking about it, if not for today's encounter, these memories might have been forever sealed in her mind, never to be recalled again.

This memory was like a gap, bringing many previously vague things into sharp focus, just as she thought her happy childhood had also left her with a thick shadow.

  That day was Ghost Festival.

After dinner, the parents went to burn paper for their deceased relatives, so they quietly slipped out of the house and came to their "base". The "base" was actually a place where cement pipes were stacked. Each pipe was thick and long, with a hollow center, and at that time they could easily run back and forth inside.

Because it was the Ghost Festival, someone suggested that they tell a ghost story to listen to. In fact, this was what they had planned early on, waiting for the evening gathering, who would tell a ghost story to scare Xiao Feng.

Xiao Feng's courage is notoriously the smallest. For example, when he walks alone in front, knowing that they are still behind him, as long as they suddenly call out to him, he will immediately be frightened and lose his color, and his body will even tremble.

In addition, his family was very poor and he only had a few clothes for the whole year, which made him look dirty all the time. As a result, in most cases, Xiaofeng was their object of ridicule. Now that she thinks back, she realizes that Xiaofeng's timidness was actually due to his congenital heart disease.

At that time, they were only eleven or twelve years old, and no one had any idea in their mind. Besides, Xiaofeng had never mentioned it to them, so no one paid attention to it either.

When they proposed this idea, Xiaofeng immediately raised his hand in opposition, but they urged him with friendship, saying that if he didn't participate, they would not play with him anymore. Out of helplessness, Xiaofeng had no choice but to agree.

The storyteller was Ah Jun, who was also the one among these playmates that she had a good impression of. Ah Jun told a story of "Seven Nights of Ghosts". Although she now remembers it somewhat vaguely, she can still recall its general content, which was about a series of paranormal events occurring in a city where one person died mysteriously for six consecutive days, and when the seventh night arrived, everyone in the city was killed.

When Ah Jun finished telling the story, everyone was scared out of their wits. The most severe one was Xiao Feng, who had a layer of cold sweat on his face and immediately wanted to go home. However, this was only the first step in scaring Xiao Feng, and there was still a second step that hadn't been taken yet. How could they let him go? So they threatened him again.

Next, they started playing hide-and-seek, where one person was responsible for finding the others, who hid in these pipes and were not allowed to hide anywhere else.

This was also what they had planned ahead of time, and when the time came, they would tell Xiaofeng that they had crawled into the deepest pipe and couldn't get out, asking him to crawl in and rescue them. As long as Xiaofeng stupidly crawled in to save them, they would immediately turn around and go home. Given the darkness at that time, they were convinced that when Xiaofeng found himself alone with no one around, he would be scared shitless.

Then they really did that. She first hid to one side, pretending to disappear, and the rest of them pretended to be anxious to find Xiaofeng and told him this false message.

They thought they would waste their breath, but Xiao Feng nodded in agreement as soon as he heard that she was trapped in the pipe and hurriedly crawled into the pipe. The pipe was very long, three times the length of a normal pipe, and one end was blocked, it was so dark inside that even they would be scared to death.

Xiao Feng crawled in, anxiously calling out her name, but she was almost laughing hysterically outside the pipe. As Xiao Feng crawled deeper, his voice grew fainter and fainter, after all, the edge of the pipe was very thick, with a certain soundproofing effect.

Having seen enough, someone suggested that they could go home now. She had originally wanted to dissuade them, after all, Xiaofeng had crawled in for her sake, and it was a bit heartless to leave him like this. But under the urging of the others, she finally acquiesced and left with them.

She thought it was just a prank, but at 11 o'clock that night, her parents received a call from Xiaofeng's mother, saying that Xiaofeng had not returned so late and asked if she was with him. She didn't dare to tell the truth, so she lied and said no.

The next day, when they gathered together again, Xiaofeng still hadn't been found by his parents. After inquiring carefully, it turned out that the previous night, when facing questions from Xiaofeng's parents, they all gave unexpectedly consistent answers, saying they didn't know where Xiaofeng had gone.

But Xiaofeng didn't come back last night, which was definitely abnormal. So they went to the "base" again and when they arrived, they were all stunned to see that a large truck had stopped at the exit of the pipe, with its cargo box blocking the only exit!

It wasn't until the truck driver drove away and Xiaofeng's body was dragged out by his parents that they realized how much trouble they had gotten themselves into.

Xiao Feng's eyes were wide with an unspeakable terror, and it was clear how frightened he had been at the time. At that moment, whenever she had some free time, she would think of Xiao Feng's bulging eyes, and because of this, she had fallen seriously ill several times.

The police didn't suspect them either, and they naturally didn't dare to reveal the truth. They just said that on that day, they thought Xiaofeng had gone home and didn't know where he was hiding. But everyone's heart left a shadow, and after that, they never went back to that "base" again.

Not long after, she followed her parents to move away. As time passed, this matter was gradually forgotten by her, and finally forgotten completely. However, it cannot be denied that Xiaofeng was indeed indirectly killed by them.

  "Kokoro... I'm sorry."

In her heart, she muttered to herself, and her heart became heavy again. However... wait a minute! Shoes? An eleven or twelve year old child? Could it be?!

Cheng Wushuang suddenly had a terrible guess, what if the child she couldn't see was actually Xiaofeng's ghost seeking revenge with hatred?!

But is this possible? It's been over a decade since the incident, and Xiaofeng's ghost should have appeared either earlier or later, so why would it come to haunt her now?

She got out of bed again in a flurry, carefully walked out of the bedroom, and wanted to confirm whether those shoes had come in. The door was empty, with only her own shoes placed there, but her tightly raised heart did not put down because... the door was open!

Someone... someone just came in! Who is it?

All her nerves were stretched taut at this moment, which also made her brain unbearable, and she fainted with a roll of her eyes. In the last glimpse before fainting, she saw that pair of shoes, it came in from outside the door and walked towards her.

She didn't know how long she had been unconscious, but when she woke up, it was already dark. Her husband's figure appeared in her line of sight, sitting on the bed and staring at her intently.

"Xiao Feng, when did you come back?"

Only when she mentioned his name did she realize that her husband's nickname was the same as that man's, and for some reason, it made her feel very uncomfortable.

"What's wrong with you? You fainted!"

Her husband looked at her with concern and asked.

It wasn't until her husband mentioned it that she suddenly realized that those damned shoes had come in.

"Shoes, those shoes! Go and check for me quickly, are those shoes still there?"

  "What shoes?"

Her husband looked at her with a strange expression, but she continued shouting loudly:

"It's those little kid's shoes, the dirty pair, I just saw them come in!"

  "Is this the one?"

Her husband suddenly lifted his foot, and Cheng Wushuang stared blankly at it. In an instant, a chill spread throughout her body. What did she see? On her husband's foot, on his foot... he was actually wearing those shoes!

  "How could it be..."

Her husband's expression turned gloomy, he gently stroked her hair with his hand, then leaned into her ear and shouted:

"Because... the person who just came in is me!!!"

Cheng Wushuang suddenly remembered that she wasn't even married, thinking about how busy she was every day, not even having a single friend, where would her lover come from? The so-called husband didn't exist at all!

It wasn't until then that she finally figured out what was off - it was the shoes, there wasn't a single pair of men's shoes in the house!

"Stop, don't kill me, I... didn't mean to..."
